26. Our Own Universe

Lia had slept longer than she had intended to, but she supposed she shouldn't have been surprised since she slept on the floor last night. Opening her eyes, she saw that he was still wrapped about her; hugging her as if she were some sort of teddy bear. He was still snoring softly; sounding extremely stuffed up and sick still. Lia allowed herself to lay there for a moment or two more before untangling herself from him to wander out into the kitchen. Glancing at the clock on the microwave, she saw that she had only been asleep for two hours or so. The morning was almost over.

Rummaging through the meals she had stacked in the fridge, she debated whether to heat it up for Jungkook or make something different. What with his upset stomach, she wasn't sure what would be better. As she stood there debating things, she heard footsteps behind her. Turning she saw Jungkook coming out of the bedroom, looking like he was sleep walking with his eyes opened only a slit as he half stumbled her way.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to wake you."

"You're fine..." He said, immediately covering his mouth afterwards as a yawn escaped.

Jungkook walked over to her, wrapping his arms about her from behind as he laid his face against the back of her neck. She chuckled when she felt his hot breath on the back of her neck.

"What are you doing?" she asked when she felt him just completely lay against her as he stood there; melting against her back as if he were a pad of butter.

"This was supposed to be our date day," he mumbled into her neck instead of answering her question.

"Yes, but you're sick. We can do a rain check."

"No. I still want our date. Next Thursday we can have another one."

"Aren't you full of yourself? Thinking you're already going to get a second date."

She felt him chuckle weakly behind her; her back being massaged by it due to how he was clinging to her.

"Jungkook...are you sure you feel well enough?"

"I will be fine," he said; a saying that seemed to have become a mantra for the seven men in her life. "Please let me do this."

"Alright," she said, relenting. "Should I go pick out something nice to wear?"

"No. Please wear what you have on," he said.

Lia didn't argue. He pressed a fevered kiss or two to the back and sides of her neck before pulling back.

"Put the food away," he said. "I need to prep for date night and you need to go relax somewhere."

Lia did as he asked, allowing him to lead her back to the bedroom once she put the meal back in the fridge Jungkook made her take a seat on the bed once in the bedroom - and when she tried to get up - he made her sit right back down.

"Jungkook, you're sick. If anyone should be stuck in bed it should be you."

"I promise I won't overdo it," he said, "And I owe you, especially after everything."

Lia looked at him and sighed when she realized that it would be futile trying to sway him. Jungkook obviously had his mind made up.

"Fine. I'll wait here for you to come get me."

Lia's answer had him grinning that brilliant smile of his that she loved. Jungkook bent to press a quick kiss to her forehead before walking out of the bedroom. In the silence, her mind began to make her think. Never in Lia's life did she ever think that she would have men in her life that she cared about as deeply as these seven, nor did she think she would be the object of desire to two of them. Growing up, Lia didn't have the highest self esteem. She always got picked last and she never got asked on dates. To think that she could mean something to someone meant more to her than anything. Lia never thought in a million years that she would matter to one man and now she had to choose between two.

Yeontan came in to interrupt her thoughts after a while, popping up on the bed like a fluffy popcorn kernel. Lia smiled down at him, stroking his fur as Jungkook made his sudden appearance into the bedroom. As Lia opened her mouth to ask him a question, he held up a finger to silence her.

"Not yet, so please don't ask," he said as he walked over to a dresser drawer, tugging it open. She turned her head to watch him shift articles of clothing aside in search of something.

Lia decided to turn her focus back to Yeontan as Jungkook puttered. She heard the bathroom door shut followed by the shower being turned on. Obviously Jungkook decided that he was going to force himself to wash up before their date night to smell better. After about ten minutes or so, she heard the water go off. She looked towards the bathroom as Jungkook opened the door; her cheeks immediately turning scarlet when she saw him standing there.

Jungkook was completely naked except for a white towel wrapped about his waist. His torso was glistening from the water, accenting the line of every toned muscle there.

With red cheeks, Lia turned away from him to look at Yeontan again. Jungkook chuckled at her reaction.

"You're doing this on purpose to get a rise out of me," accused Lia.

"I don't know what you're talking about," said Jungkook as he made his way over to the still open dresser drawer. Dropping the towel onto the ground once he unwrapped it from his waist, he dug out some briefs followed by a black t-shirt and skinny jeans.

"Alright, I'm dressed now," said Jungkook as he finished tugging the jeans up over his hips.

Lia looked over at Jungkook to see that he was telling the truth. He was dressed and was just finishing navigating the button shut on his jeans. He turned his head to look at her after; his hair matted to his head from the water. He grinned at her; an impish twinkle in his eyes as he walked over to the bed.

"I love that your cheeks are redder than mine now," he said as he sat on his side of the bed, leaning over to whisper in her ear, "Only sickness hasn't caused your fever. I have..."

Lia scoffed, batting at him with a hand which got a chuckle leaving his lips as he got back off the bed. Even though Lia knew he was sick, he was acting as if he were fully back to health.

"I swear you better not go and get yourself sicker by straining yourself," said Lia as Jungkook disappeared back out into the kitchen.

"Don't worry so much, mom!" Jungkook shouted back.

Lia heard a knock at the door, still staying where she was as Jungkook answered it. From where she sat on the bed, she could see him walk past the bedroom door with containers of food in his hands. Soon Jungkook was re-entering the bedroom, moving to grab a necktie from his drawer.

"Are you dressing up slightly?" asked Lia when she saw him hold the royal purple necktie in his hands.

"Nope. It's for you," he said with a small smile.

Jungkook crossed the room to stand by her side, looking at Yeontan on her lap.

"Excuse me, Yeontan. It's my turn to be with Lia now."

Yeontan stared back at Jungkook unphased for a moment before trotting off Lia's lap as Jungkook sat on the edge of the bed. Jungkook looked at Lia; that small grin still on his face.

"Close your eyes please."

She looked at him for a moment more before doing his bidding. Lia felt Jungkook shift closer to her, being able to smell the cologne he had put on as her already blackened sight went darker; the necktie being tied around her eyes like a blindfold.

"What are you doing?"

"You'll see soon. Just trust me."

Lia fell silent after that, feeling Jungkook draw back from her. His hand soon grabbed one of hers, pulling her gently off the bed. Jungkook was still walking slowly from being ill; Lia following in the same slow steady steps. Lia figured that Jungkook was just leading them into the living room, but felt her suspicions going right out the window as she felt a cold breeze nip at her exposed legs.

"Jungkook, where are you taking me?"

"Don't worry," Jungkook said; a metallic clinking sound following his words. His grip on her hand tightened. "Just trust me. We're almost there."

Lia nodded her head, allowing Jungkook to gently guide her up and over something; her bare feet settling on some sort of metal grating. She realized - as she began to feel the cool air surround her - that she was outside. Jungkook guided her gently up some sort of metal ladder of sorts before her feet came to rest on what felt like cold concrete.

"Alright. I'm gonna unblindfold you now," said Jungkook from behind her as he moved to untie the necktie.

As it came away from her face, Lia stared at the sight before her in awe. They were on the roof of the apartment building. In front of her was a picnic blanket with another blanket tented up over it. Two ivory candles were lit outside the blanket tent; the flames dancing in the wind as two boxed meals sat inside on the picnic blanket.

"Jungkook..."

"I hope this is okay," he said.

Lia felt tears prick her eyes as Jungkook moved to stand in front of her.

"You're crying," he said with a small frown on his lips. "Is it because this is dumb or..."

"No. It's perfect," said Lia with a chuckle.

Jungkook let out a sigh of relief as he moved to go over to where the boxed meals were. He sat cross-legged on the picnic blanket; Lia soon joining him and sitting in the same manner across from him. When he moved to open the boxes, her eyes lit up even more which caused Jungkook to chuckle.

"How did you know I liked this?" Lia asked as she looked at the creamy white pasta held within the container.

"Lets just say I was very observant when I was over at your apartment," he said. "It's nice to see you smile."

She let the smile remain on her lips as Jungkook moved the second container to rest beside her.

"I'm still not feeling up to eating, but I bought a second meal so you'll have leftovers seeing as you made us all food for the week instead of Jin."

"I was just trying to help."

"I know," he said softly.

Jungkook sat across from Lia as she ate her meal, engaging in small bits of conversation about her new job and whether or not she liked it. Taehyung never came up once nor did their fight. The sky outside their impromptu tent glowed in the light of the late afternoon sun. When Lia finished eating, she set her box aside. Jungkook moved to sit closer to her; both of them facing the sun as it dipped over the buildings in front of them, slowly starting to sink from view. The sky was painted in swirls of peachy pinks and lilac purples. As Lia sat beside Jungkook, she felt him slip an arm about her waist.

"Thank you for the date," she said. "The food was delicious and the setting it's..."

When Lia trialed off to try to think of the right word, Jungkook turned to look at her.

"Please say romantic."

She chuckled when she heard the slight panic edge into his voice.

"It's romantic. I was trying to think of a better word for it. It was...it was magical, Jungkook. Thank you."

He nodded, keeping his arm about her as his eyes looked at the sun setting before them.

"I wish I had more than just Thursday with you," he said softly without looking at her. "I feel like I don't get enough time, especially when I'm an idiot like I was earlier."

"Don't feel badly about it anymore. It's over," she whispered, though she couldn't help but to think about how they might just have another fight next Thursday over Taehyung.

Lia broke her gaze with the sunset to look over at Jungkook. His eyes were glassy as he stared at the sun.

"Jungkook, are you crying?"

He didn't say anything. Reaching out a hand, Lia turned his face so that he would look at her. Tears swam in his eyes; one or two slipping free when he blinked.

"Why are you crying?"

"I just...I love you. I love you so much. The thought of only being here once a week with you...it hurts. I'm wasting so much time..."

Lia didn't say anything as she reached out a hand to place on his cheek, brushing his tears away.

"You shouldn't love someone like me," she whispered finally. "I'm not worth the trouble."

Jungkook shook his head as he looked at her. He reached out a hand to brush it over her cheek.

"It's you that shouldn't love someone like me," he whispered in return, "Someone who can only be with you one day a week..."

"Lets not focus on that right now. Let's just live in the moment and not waste a second," said Lia.

Jungkook smiled softly at Lia's words - and as the sun fully disappeared to give way to the midnight blues of night - he leaned forward to press his lips softly against hers. Lia closed her eyes, moving her lips in sync with his as she kissed him back. For this night, they were in their own universe outside of time; their love shining brighter than the stars that were twinkling into view above them.
