19. Special Mission

Lia felt as if she shouldn't even bother to set an alarm anymore. Most of the time now it felt like she was woken up by knocking at the front door before her alarm even went off and this Monday morning was no different. Sighing, she rolled out of bed. Still in her pajamas, she moved to grab a bathrobe, tugging it on as the pounding at the front door continued.

"I'm coming. I'm coming."

When she opened the door, she saw the familiar man in black holding up a piece of paper in his hand as if she were being accused of some sort of crime. She backed up after snatching the paper from his hand as he stepped into the apartment; Yeontan happily jumping up at his ankles as he took off the hat to reveal his mass of blue hair as she shut the front door behind him.

"What is this?" asked Lia, holding up the paper.

"It's a note that Jungkook left in the binder for me," said Taehyung as he moved to look at her; his eyes reflecting a sort of hurt. "I just want to know if it's true."

She watched Taehyung scoop Yeontan up in his arms; his lips cracking into a small smile as the eager fluffball licked at the underside of his chin. Lia smiled before looking down at the note. It was just addressed to Taehyung and told him that he needed to stop flirting with Lia because she was taken. She smirked.

"I see that smirk," said Taehyung. "That means that it's true."

"It means you both are ridiculous to feud over me," said Lia as she looked over at Taehyung to see that he was looking at her again even though Yeontan was still trying to demand all his attention.

"But that's not fair! You've known Jungkook for longer so he has had more of a chance. I just had one day with you."

"Oh stop it," said Lia, "Really. I'm not some property that you two get to war over."

Taehyung sighed as he looked at Yeontan in his arms; a grumpy but adorable pout on his face. Lia put the note down on the counter before walking back into her bedroom. She walked over to her closet to dig out an outfit for work before walking back out into the other room where she saw that Taehyung had moved to sit on the floor and was currently looking like a sulky little boy. She sighed as she stood behind the couch looking at him.

"Is that how you're going to spend your Monday? Sulking?"

"I just wish I could take you out on a date or something..." said Taehuyng as he stroked fingers through Yeontan's fur, not even looking over at her. "Apparently I'm not special enough."

Lia hated seeing him sulky, wondering how to get him out of that funk. She put her clothes on the back of the couch as she moved to sit down on the floor across from Taehyung. Now that she was on the floor with him and Yeontan, Yeontan popcorned out of his lap to come get some attention from her. Lia chuckled softly as she played her fingers through Yeontan's fur before putting her free hand on Taehyung's knee. She watched as he lifted his head to look at her.

"Taehyung, you are special so I want you to knock it off. All seven of you are."

"You're just saying that so you'll get this," said Taehyung as he flashed her a quick smile before letting it fade from his face. He shook his head from side-to-side before crossing his arms across his chest. "That won't work."

"What if I said I have something that I need your help with; something that I haven't told anyone else."

"Not even Jungkook?"

"No. Not even Jungkook."

Taehyung perked up then at that knowledge, looking over at her with that same eager spirit she was used to. He uncrossed his arms from across his chest.

"What is it?" he asked. "You can't leave me hanging after saying something like that."

"You have to promise me first that you won't tell anyone."

"Fine, fine, yes," said Taehyung as he held out one of his hands; his pinky extended towards her. "I will even pinky promise."

She chuckled, lifting her hand from off his knee to link her pinky finger with his.

"I need to find out more about all of you guys and your pasts," said Lia finally as she brought her pinky finger away from his, "And I have a place I'd like to start."

"Which is where?"

"With my boss," said Lia. "My new boss is Jin's father."

Lia watched as Taehyung's eyes bugged out at the revelation. Yeontan jumped off her lap and scuttled back over to Taehyung who was absentmindedly ghosting his fingers through his fur.

"You don't remember him, do you?"

Taehyung shook his head in answer to her question and it was as if doing so also shook away the shock. He focused his eyes on her.

"What is it that you're hoping to learn from Jin's father?" asked Taehyung.

"Anything about your pasts so that I can maybe find a way to help you guys," said Lia. "I don't have many leads aside from this - and where he's my boss - I'm not sure what to do."

"What is it you're hoping that I can do?"

"Help me research. While you puppy sit Yeontan, maybe you can go digging online to see what you can find out. I haven't had a chance to."

Taeyhung fell silent for a moment as he thought about everything Lia had just told him before he nodded his head slowly.

"Alright. I'll help you. Secret agent Taehyung at your service."

Lia let out a chuckle as a bright smile took over Taehyung's face as he gave her a mock salute of sorts; rustling the blue hair dangling down over his forehead.

"You're a goof."

"But I'm a sexy one at that," said Taehyung raising both brows up and down.

"How about a shameless one? That's more accurate" suggested Lia as Taehyung started to giggle when she lurched forward to try to grab at him.

"Nope," said Taehyung with a chuckle still as he rolled over onto his back; Yeontan left in the lurch as he let out a short bark and ran off.

Lia didn't expect Taehyung to lay back, falling forward with him until she landed on his chest. The two of them were a giggling mess on the ground for a moment before Lia realized that she needed to get up and get ready.

"We both have work to do," said Lia as she tried to stand up.

Taehyung shook his head as he slipped an arm about her to keep her still for a moment, causing them to lock eyes for a moment before he leaned up to give her a quick peck on the forehead.

"Thank you for letting me feel special and wanted," he said as he dropped his arm from her so she can stand up.

Lia fought away the blush on her cheeks as she nodded, disappearing in the bathroom to go get ready. She was thankful she had a legitimate excuse to slip away, worried that if she had stayed for a moment longer she might have kissed him.
