11. Cutie

Taehyung and Lia decided to walk towards a small bistro a few blocks from her work for lunch. When they entered, all eyes seemed to turn to look at them. Lia was discovering that walking around with Taehyung was like walking around with a runway model. Lia could tell that she was getting envious glares from other women as they looked over at them even without turning around to confirm it. Lia felt as if the glares had set her whole back on fire.

"Why do you look like you have a steel rod jammed down your back?" asked Taehyung as they waited for their order at the bistro, standing off to the side where the other waiting customers were.

"Do you not realize how much people are staring in our direction?" asked Lia.

Taehyung looked around then as if noticing what Lia was for the first time. A wicked little grin came over his face as he moved to slip an arm about her.

"Hey! What are you..."

"Shush. If you want people to stop staring, you need to make them realize you're not available."

"So you're just going to pretend I'm your girlfriend or something so they don't come and mob you, but they'll come and kill me? That's thoughtful."

Taehyung chuckled, keeping his arm looped where it was as they waited for their order.

"Don't worry. If anyone tries to come after you, I know self defense."

"Are you a black belt or something?"

"Better. I'm a dark black belt."

Hearing him chuckle beside her, she began to too. She only moved away from his hold to grab their order when it was up. They decided to eat it as they walked about to take in the nice day. Taehyung walked beside her; having their empty sandwich bag under one arm as they both ate.

"What did you do before this?"

"Before I was the embodiment of a sexy Monday?" he asked, grinning around his sandwich. "Nothing much really. I had aspirations to be somewhere in the entertainment industry so I was trying to work towards that."

"You would be good in that line of work," said Lia.

"Because of my looks, right?"

"No, because you're such a ham."

"Last time I checked, ham was something you put on a sandwich. Is someone saying I'm delicious?"

Lia's cheeks flushed as she looked over at the laughing Taehyung.

"I'm sorry. Did you not just give me a beautiful bracelet to apologize for your earlier behavior and to say that you'd work on curbing it?"

"I'm sorry," said Taehyung genuinely, still trying to get the laughter to go away. "It's just too hard to resist sometimes. Just like me."

"You're shameless," she said. "Absolutely shameless."

The two of them walked together in silence as they finished eating, soon arriving at a trash can to throw their garbage away.

"How much longer until you have to go back on your shift?"

Moving to look at the watch on her wrist, she noted the time.

"I have about fifteen more minutes until I have to go back. Why?"

"Just curious," said Taehyung as he looked about them.

His eyes soon lit up as he pointed out something across the street. He had barely pointed it out to her before grabbing her hand and racing with her across the street, causing them to get honked at by a few cars that nearly hit them.

"Where are you going?" asked Lia as they soon came to a stop outside a pet fair that was going on in the park.

"Look at the cute puppies, Lia!" said Taehyung as he dropped her hand, running for a nearby pen where small puffballs were yipping and jumping on top of one another. To Lia, it looked like puffy popcorn kernels popping away in there under the summer sun.

"Awww. Aren't you cute? Yes you are...Yes you are..." cooed Taehyung in a baby voice as he crouched down in front of the pen. He had some fingers wrapped through the holes in the fencing, watching as the dogs yipped and jumped at him.

"I think I found your biggest fans," teased Lia as she moved to stand behind Taehyung.

"Ha ha. You're hilarious," said Taehyung as he turned to look at Lia. "Come crouch down beside me and see how cute they really are."

Even though she could clearly see how cute they were from where she stood, she humored him. Lia moved to crouch down beside him to look at the puppies in the pen.

"You really have a thing for dogs don't you?" asked Lia as she looked from the puppies to Taehyung's smitten face.

"I do," he said. "It's hard not to."

She stayed beside him for a few more minutes before reluctantly rising to her feet. It was time for her to head back to work. Taehyung slowly moved to stand beside her.

"You can stay for a bit if you want," she said. "You don't have to come back with me."

"No, no. It's fine," said Taehyung. "The longer I stay, the harder it will be to leave anyway."

Lia nodded her head, the two of them walking by side by side until she arrived back at the magazine office. She told him that she got off around three and that he could do what he wanted until then, but Taehyung insisted that he would just wait the remaining hours in the waiting room.

"You're going to be a distraction," said Lia as she moved to enter the building with Taehyung on her heels.

"To you maybe," he said raising his eyebrows up and down, causing Lia to swat at his arm as he set to chuckling again.

"Won't you die of boredom in the waiting room though?" asked Lia as she watched Taehyung take up a seat in the waiting area.

"I feel like you're trying to get rid of me."

"I'm not."

"Well then I'm fine. You need to worry about your job not me."

She nodded, reluctantly moving off to go back to work surrounded by the gossipy whispers of her co-workers. Lia tuned it out as she busied herself with the files left on her desk. By the time she got off work for the day, Taehyung was still sitting in the waiting room in all his blue headed glory.

"Do you know these magazines are all outdated?" asked Taehyung as Lia approached him after clocking out. "Which seems sinful considering this is a big wig magazine company."

"You know what's even more sinful? You using the term 'big wig' to describe this place," said Lia. "Who even talks like that?"

"Me, thank you very much," he said as he bounded up out of his seat with a chuckle. "So, where to now? Home?"

The entirety of her afternoon shift, Lia kept thinking about Taehyung and how happy he had been with the puppies. She knew it was probably rash, but she had already made up her mind about it.

"I have an errand first that I want to make. You ought to tag along with me for it."

"And what errand is this?" asked Taehyung as he followed Lia outside.

"You'll see."

When they arrived back at the park where the pet drive was still going on, she didn't need to turn around to know that Taehyung's face had lit up.

"What are we doing back here? Are you getting a puppy?"

"You are. You are getting a puppy," said Lia. "You can pick one out and I'll take care of it."

She paused, turning to look back at Taehyung who had become frozen where he stood. His face was expressionless for a moment as he looked from the puppies to her. She could see emotions brewing in his eyes as he tried to blink back tears.

"You...you are..."

"Casanova is finally at a loss for words, huh?"

"Yeah...yeah..." said Taehyung as he quickly brought up a hand to wipe away a tear that fell down his cheek. "Are you sure about this, Lia?"

"I am," she said. "If it makes you feel better, just think of this puppy as a shared therapy dog and as a thank you for the bracelet."

"Does that mean if I buy you more jewelry that you'll get me another puppy?"

"Don't push your luck," said Lia as Taehyung chuckled softly, moving with Lia towards the puppy pen they had been at earlier.

The woman that stood there allowed Taehyung to step inside the pen. Lia watched from outside as Taehyung stood amongst the yipping puppies looking like a kid in a candy store. He soon turned to her, holding out a hand for her to grab to help her into the pen. She grabbed his hand as he helped her keep her balance. Soon the two of them were sitting cross legged amongst the puppies. Due to the fact that the pen was small, their knees rubbed up against one another as the puppies jumped in and out of their laps.

"Which one are you choosing?" asked Lia as she watched his eyes glow at each and every one that wanted his attention.

"I don't know...it's such a hard choice."

Lia understood. That was how she felt when it came to these men that were all suddenly entering her life at once. She wasn't intending to look at them in any sort of romantic way, but she was finding things to love about all of them that made it hard to not entertain the possibility that one of these men could be her other half. She chided herself for thinking that way, getting interrupted from her thoughts when Taehyung shoved a black and tan Pomeranian puppy in her face.

"LOOK AT THE CUTE LITTLE FACE! I choose him."

"He is pretty cute," she said with a smile as she watched Taehyung nestle the puppy close to his chest.

They stood up, stepping out of the pen. Lia walked over to a nearby table where she made the necessary payments and signed the paperwork.

"Your boyfriend over there isn't signing for anything?" asked the woman in charge as she watched Lia sign on the last line.

"We're not dating," said Lia. "We're just good friends."

"Right," said the woman slowly as she took the forms from Lia. "Now, to complete the registration process, we just need a name."

"Yeontan!" said Taehyung who had moved to stand beside Lia with the yipping puppy still in his arms.

The woman nodded, noting it down as Lia turned to look at Taehyung. He hadn't stopped smiling since he chose Yeontan as the puppy for him. When they eventually walked away from the park back towards the apartment, Taehyung shifted to hold Yeontan out towards her.

"You need to hold him too," he said. "Especially since he's also yours."

Lia nodded, chuckling as Yeontan licked her face the moment Taehyung placed him in her arms.

"Lucky dog," muttered Taehyung under his breath.

When they arrived back home, Taehyung spent time with Lia and Yeontan in Lia's apartment; the two of them researching the right ways to feed and take care of him. When evening came, Taehyung reluctantly stood in her doorway, looking towards Yeontan longingly.

"Don't worry," said Lia as she came to stand in front of him. "You'll see him next Monday. Maybe you can even dog sit while I'm at work."

"Maybe," said Taehyung as he looked from Yeontan to her.

Lia noticed the sadness in his eyes. This was completely unlike his flirty self. She knew that it probably had to do with the fact that he would be gone for the rest of the week.

"I expect to be treated like a queen from here on out you know," said Lia.

Taehyung smirked as he moved to bend and press a soft kiss to her cheek.

"Whatever you say, princess," he said as he drew his head back with a small smirk.

Taehyung moved to step out of her apartment after that, and if it wasn't for Yeontan yipping for her attention right then, Lia would no doubt have passed out on the spot.
