Chapter Seven
SELINA
I was lying in bed with Bruce, his arms wrapped around my waist and his head buried into my neck while I stared up at the ceiling. I couldn't sleep all night. I kept thinking about the feelings I have for Robert. And I'm even starting to believe in Henry's theory. I mean... where did that dream come from if it wasn't a memory? And Robert was right... There were no wolves in Storybrooke.
All of a sudden my cell phone rang. It was Robert.
I grabbed my iphone 4 off the table, trying to not wake up Bruce. I answered the phone and placed it against my ear. "Hello?" I questioned. "It's like 4:30 in the morning. What is it? Gardening again?" I asked.
"No," he said. I furrowed my eyebrows. "Sheriff Graham is dead."
"What?" I questioned.
"We think he died of a heart attack," he explained.
"But he seemed healthy, before the wolf-incident," I said.
"Yeah but sometimes our bodies can surprise us," he said. "I just thought you would like to know, considering Bruce and Graham used to be roommates."
"Right," I sighed. "Thank you for telling me."
"Of course, Selina. And if you want to take today off too, you can."
"Thank you," I said. "But I think I'm going to go to work today. It will be good to keep my mind off things."
"Right. Well, I will see you at 7."
"See you," I replied. I then hung up and placed the phone back on the nightstand. "Bruce," I said, nudging him. "Bruce!" I yelled.
He finally jolted awake. "What? What's wrong?"
"I have some sad news," I said. "I just got a call. Sheriff Graham died last night. They believe it to be natural causes."
"You're not joking are you?" he asked. "Because if this is some prank, Selina..."
"It's not a prank. I promise you. I'm sorry. I know how much Graham meant to you," I said.
"Yeah, yeah, he was a good friend," he said. I then tried to get out of bed but he stopped me. "Where are you going?" he asked.
"To get ready for work, dumbass," I said.
"Oh, well." he said. "Can't you stay in bed a little longer?" he teased, his lips touching mine.
"No," I replied. "I'm sick of being in bed."
"We can do it on the floor..." he suggested. I shook my head. "Against the wall?"
"I said no, Bruce. I'm getting ready for work." I then left him alone in the bed, whining to himself. I just shook my head as I walked over to my closet to pick out an outfit for today. I picked out a white blouse with blue jeans along with a black blazer jacket and black flats. I quickly got changed, brushed my teeth and hair, and then I put on my deodorant. I then grabbed my purse off of the dresser and said, "I love you Bruce."
"I love you too," he mumbled. I rolled my eyes, walked out of the bedroom and out of my house, and drove to Mr. Gold's Pawn Shop. I walked in and I didn't see him, but then I realized he must be in the back of the shop.
As I made my way to the back of the shop, something stopped me. It was a crown, placed on top of a mannequin. The crown was made of all silver and it had a snowflake in the middle. It was beautiful. I don't know why I was so attracted to it, but I was, so I went over to it and as soon as I put it on top of my head, another memory came through me.
"Stop!" The girl who looked like me in the dream yelled. She wore the same crown in Robert's shop, she had really pale white skin, dark brown wavy hair, and she wore an all white dress. She sat with a woman who looked similar to her, she also had a white dress on and a bigger crown, signifying her to be of high royalty. And it looked to be like there was a dwarf driving Santa's sleigh with pure white reindeer. The dwarf stopped as soon as he heard the girl's voice and until he saw a young boy whom was about to be hit if it weren't for the girl.
The boy got knocked over to the side, and as soon as the dwarf stopped the sleigh, he got out and started to run after the boy. "Leave me alone!" the boy screamed as the dwarf was now on top of him with a whip.
"What is it now?" asked the older woman. "Ginarrbrik?"
"Make him let me go!" the boy cried. "I didn't do anything wrong!"
"He's in the right mother," said the girl who looked like me. "He's just a child."
"How dare you address the Royalty of Narnia?" Ginarrbrik growled. The girl who looked like me rolled her eyes and got out of the sleigh.
"I didn't know," he replied.
"You will know them better hereafter!" said Ginarrbrik.
"Wait!" said the girl like me as she approached Ginarrbrik and the boy. The older woman soon followed the girl who looked like me. "What is your name, Son of Adam?" The girl who looked like me asked.
Ginarrbrik removed himself from the boy. "Uh, Edmund," he replied.
Edmund stood up. "And how Edmund, did you come to enter our dominion?" questioned the older woman.
"I'm not sure," he replied. "I was just following my sister," he replied.
The two women exchanged eye contact. "Your sister?" The girl who looked like me questioned. "How many are you?"
"Four," he replied. "Lucy's the only one that's been here before."
Ginarrbrik looked at the two women. "She said she met some faun called Tumnus," he continued.
"Mr. Tumnus," the girl like me said under her breath, gritting her teeth.
"Peter and Susan didn't believe her," said Edmund. "I didn't either."
"Edmund, you look so cold. Will you come sit with Liana and I?" the older woman questioned.
Edmund looked down at the dwarf, unsure if he should, but he did well because he was forced to as the dwarf pushed him along to follow the Queen and the woman who looked like me, and supposedly her name was Liana. Liana... The girl that fell in love with Rumplestiltskin. The one who loves Robert. Me. Me, Me.
Liana sat in the sleigh on the left side, Edmund in the middle, and the Queen on the other side. The two women wrapped Edmund in their cozy cloaks made out of real fur. "Now, how about something hot to drink?" The Queen asked.
"Yes please, your majesty," said Edmund. The Queen poured a green potion into the snow. And soon a cup filled with hot chocolate appeared. Edmund's eyes widened. It looked like it was his first time experiencing magic. Liana smiled. She remembered that same look on her face.
The dwarf picked up the cup, and gave it to Edmund. "Your drink, sire."
"How did you do that?" Edmund asked, taking the cup in his hands.
"Well, we can make anything you like," said Liana, the girl who looked like me.
After taking a sip of hot chocolate Edmund looked at Liana. "Can you make me taller?"
Liana and the Queen laughed. "I think what my daughter meant was... whatever you'd like to eat," said the Queen. Edmund then took another sip and then looked up at the Queen.
"Turkish delight?"
The Queen poured more of the potion on the ground. The dwarf handed the food to Edmund while the Queen took the cup out of his hand. As Edmund was eating, the Queen said, "Edmund, I would very much like to meet the rest of your family. I think Liana would too, wouldn't you, my dear?" she asked looking at the girl who looked like me.
Liana nodded. "Most definitely."
Edmund looked at Liana and then at the Queen with a confused look on his
face. "Why? They're nothing special."
"Oh, I'm sure they're not nearly as delightful as you are," said the Queen. Liana chuckled a bit as the Queen took off the dwarf's hat and used it to wipe off Edmund's face. "But you see Edmund... Liana is my only child. And she's all grown up now. And you are exactly the sort of boy who I could see becoming the Prince of Narnia. Maybe even King alongside my beautiful Liana."
"Really?" questioned Edmund.
Liana's face turned bright red. She did not look too happy about sharing her royalty with anyone but herself. "Of course, you'd have to bring your family," said the Queen.
"Do you mean, Peter would be King
too?" asked Edmund.
"No! No, no," said the Queen. "But a King and a Queen needs servants."
Edmund smiled after he finished eating. "I guess I could bring them."
The Queen gave the dwarf the container of Turkish delight.
"Beyond these woods, you see those two hills? Our house is right between them. You'd love it there, Edmund." Edmund stood up on the sleigh and Liana was still bright red. "It has whole rooms simply stuffed with Turkish delight."
"Couldn't I have some more now?" asked Edmund.
"No!" cried Liana. "Mother, he's had enough!"
The Queen sighed and looked at Estella before looking back at Edmund. "I think it's best we don't ruin your appetite," she said. "Besides, the three of us are going to be seeing each other very soon, aren't we?"
"I hope so," he said. "You're majesties," Edmund said, looking at both the Queen and Liana.
Edmund got off the sled. "Until then, dear one. I'm going to miss you," she said. The dwarf whipped the reindeer and they left Edmund alone.
I brought myself back to reality. My head then started to hurt and I took off the crown and placed it back on the mannequin. "Everything alright, dearie?" Robert asked, approaching me. I didn't say a word. I just stood still. "What is it? Did you have another memory?"
I slowly nodded my head. "Yes."
"Was the memory about us?" he asked.
I shook my head. "No. It was about my earlier life... in Narnia..."
"Oh, I see," said Robert. "The good news at least is that you are remembering. I was afraid that you weren't going to remember at all."
"Yeah, I just wish I had more proof about who I was, or am..." I said.
"Well," he sighed. "I'll try to figure out some things on what will jump start your memory, but I have to go in the back, I'm working on a project that needs to be finished. Would you be able to work on inventory?" he asked.
I nodded. "Sure."
"Good, good," he replied, walking back into the back room.
I sighed and went behind the counter to retrieve the inventory notebook when Emma Swan came into the shop. "Gold?" she questioned, not seeing me at first.
"Hi Emma," I said. She looked at me. "What can I help you with?"
"Oh, hi, Selina," she said. "Is Gold here?" she asked.
"Yeah," I replied. "He's in the back, come on," I said, bringing her into the back room.
"Whoa! What is that?" Emma asked as we both sniffed the air that smelled so disgusting.
"This is lanolin. Used for waterproofing," he replied.
"It smells like livestock," said Emma.
I chuckled.
"Well, it is the reason why sheep's wool repels water," he replied.
"It stinks," said Emma. "Um if there was a reason why you called the Sheriff's department, if you want to talk about that quickly or outside," said Emma as Robert removed his gloves.
"Yes," said Robert, getting up from his seat. "I just wanted to uh, to express my condolences, really. The Sheriff was a good man."
"Emma..." I noticed. "Wait... why are you still wearing the deputy's badge?" I questioned. Emma looked down. "Well, he's been gone for two weeks, now," I said.
"Yes, yes, Selina's right," said Robert. "Because I believe that after two weeks of acting as Sheriff, the job becomes yours."
"I think he's saying that you'll have to wear the real badge, Emma," I added.
"Yeah. I guess. I'm just not in a hurry. So um, thank you for the kind words." Emma then walked out of the backroom.
Robert and I followed her out. "I have his things," said Robert.
"What?" Emma turned around to look at us.
"The Sheriff. He rented an apartment that I own. Another reason for my call, really. I wanted to offer you a keepsake before I offered it to Selina's husband," he said.
"I don't need anything," Emma replied.
"As you wish," said Robert. "And after I give it to Selina's husband, I'll give it to Mayor Mills. Seems like besides Bruce Frost, she was the closest thing he had to family."
"I'm not sure about that," said Emma, walking towards us.
"No love lost there, I see," said Robert.
"Look," said Robert, taking the top off the box. "I fear that all of his stuff is headed directly to the trash bin if Bruce doesn't end up taking anything. You really should take something. Look, his jacket," said Robert, pulling out the Sheriff's leather jacket.
"No," said Emma.
"Here, look," said Robert, pulling out two walkie talkies.
"Those seem pretty cool," I said.
"Henry might like these don't you think?" I asked.
"Yes, you could play together," said Robert, placing the walkies down on the counter.
Emma shook her head. "I don't..."
"No, please. They grow up so fast.
"Thanks," said Emma, hesitantly going to grab them.
"You enjoy these with your boy. Your time together is precious, you know. That's the thing about children. Before you know it, you lose them." I frowned at his statement. Did he have a kid? A kid that I didn't know about?
Emma then nodded and then left. Once she left, I turned my head to face Robert. "Robert... Please don't tell me there's something else I don't know about you."
"What?" he questioned.
"The way you talked to Emma, you acted like you had lost a child. Did you?"
"Yes, I did," he sighed.
"Was the child ours?" I questioned.
He shook his head no. "No. He was someone else's," he explained. "He's not dead... just missing.... Somewhere in this world in fact."
I sighed. "So, if this is all true, which I'm starting to believe it is... you purposely had the curse casted to find your son whom you had lost?"
He nodded his head. "Yes. And that is why I need Miss Swan to win the election or to become Sheriff," he said.
"It will end up giving her more power to break the curse."
"I understand that now," I said.
"I can assure you that later today there's going to be a debate between Sidney Glass and Emma Swan," said Robert. "That is after I get her to run. So, how about you go home and get some rest, yeah?" he said.
I sighed again. "I guess so. Are you sure you don't want me to stay?"
"No, no, trust me, you've been through a lot these past two weeks, and today with that new memory," he said.
"Right," I agreed.
"Just rest okay?" he said, placing his hand on my shoulder and looking into my eyes. I nodded. "Good. I'll see you later."
Robert then went into the back of the shop whilst I left.
