Chapter Eighteen
Liana's POV
It was time for Archie's funeral. I was in the shop, looking in the mirror. "Are you coming, sweetheart?" I questioned.
Rumple then walked into the back of the shop to which I was. "I'm sorry, Ana, but I have some business to attend to..."
I looked at him. "Does it have to do with the border?" He nodded his head. "Okay," I sighed, looking in the mirror, trying to adjust my dark purple bucket hat. "How do I look?"
"You look beautiful sweetheart," said Rumple, coming over to me, and wrapping his arms from behind me, nuzzling his nose into my neck.
"Are you sure?" you asked.
"Yes," he said. "Ana, darling, don't doubt yourself. Remember, this is just a funeral. People are not going to be commenting on the way you look."
"But I want to look presentable at least-"
"Darling, you look amazing," he kissed my neck.
I sighed. "Okay, if you say so." I then removed his arms that were resting on my waist, turned around and gave him a kiss. "Good luck at the border."
He smiled. "Thank you, darling."
I smiled back at him before heading out of the shop and to the graveyard.

I stood next to Belle, and Ruby quietly as Mary Margaret spoke. "Some of us knew him as Archie. Others as Jiminy. But we all knew him as a true friend."
Pongo, Archie's dog then started to whimper. "And though he may now be gone, he will always live on inside of us, reminding us to be our best selves, to do the right thing, to always fight for what we believe in." Mary Margaret wiped away a tear. I bent down to pet Pongo. "So we shouldn't think of today as goodbye. Just as a way of saying, Archie, we'll be listening."
A tear ran down my cheek as I watched as Marco went over to his friend's grave. He placed Archie's umbrella next to the grave and bent down. "I miss you so much, my friend," said Marco. "Well, at least you're in a better place."
Even more tears ran down my face. I then felt a tap on my shoulder. It was Belle who offered me a hug, seeing as no one else came to comfort me.
I hugged her right before letting go. I then walked up to Archie's grave, after Marco had walked away. I knelt down and said, "Hey Archie. I-I I'm sorry. I'm sorry that you had to go like this— it wasn't your time yet," I sniffled. "Heck... it should have been me. I should have been the one Regina killed instead of... you... you were such a kind soul and I— I was a monster for most of my life... I-"
"Liana," It was Belle again. She approached me. I turned to look at her. "Don't ever say such a thing."
"What?" I questioned.
"You deserve to live just as much as Archie," she replied.
"No— you— you don't understand Belle. It should have been me, not Archie. Why did it have to be Archie?" I cried.
Belle pulled me into another hug. "I-I think it was just an unfortunate matter of fate," said Belle. "I mean... we all die eventually it's just a matter of how and when. So, it's nothing that we have control over, and I think you just have to accept it. I think that's something that Archie would say."
"You're probably right," I said, sighing.
"How about you come to Granny's with Ruby and I?" Belle asked, removing herself from me.
"Um... I would love to... but I have to go to the shop," I said.
"Alright," said Belle. "If you ever need anything, don't hesitate to call!"
"Thank you," I smiled weakly. Belle smiled back, waved and then began to leave. I looked at Archie's grave one last time before leaving myself.
As I was about to leave, my phone started to ring. It was Rumple. "Hi sweetheart," I answered.
"Hey, um... I uh... I need to tell you something. Do you mind coming down to the shop?"
My heart started to beat faster. "Sure. I was going to anyway. Is everything okay? Do I need to be worried?"
"No-No, nothing you need to worry about," he said. "Just come as soon as you can."
I then hung up and went back to the shop.
+++
I opened the door and saw Rumple behind the counter. "Hi. What now? What's wrong that you couldn't tell me on the phone?"
"I did it. I can leave," he said.
My eyes widened. "You can cross the town line?"
"Indeed, I can," he said. I smiled. "When I pour this potion onto the object that I hold most dear," he said, taking out a flask. "That object becomes a talisman that allows me to cross the town line and still remember who I am."
"And who you're looking for," I said.
Rumple nodded. "My boy."
I placed my hands on his that were resting upon the counter. "What um... what will you enchant?"
"Well," he said. He then let go of my hands, and turned around to face the painting on the back wall that was secretly a safe. He opened the safe and took out an old shawl. "This shawl," he said. "Is all I have left of my Baelfire."
"I don't suppose I could come with you?" I asked.
He smiled. "Of course my darling," he said. "I made just enough for the both of us." I smiled and then he put the shawl back into the safe. "Hey, this is going to be a journey, Liana. And I don't know how I would do it alone." Rumple then brought me into a hug which I returned.
+++
I decided to go to the library in which Rumple gave me the keys to. I was going to start organizing a few books when I saw a strange man in a long leather jacket next to the shelves, his nose in a book.
"There isn't a sight that I appreciate more... a man with a book, but... I'm afraid the library's not open yet," I said.
"Oh," he smiled, looking at me and closing the book. "I'm not here for the books, love." He placed the book back on the shelf.
"You? You're the one.... You're Captain Hook," I said.
He smiled. "Indeed I am."
I then tried to run as he began to chase me. "You wanted to kill Rumplestiltskin." We both stopped at a book case that was separating us.
"Oh, I still do. But right now, I'll settle for you."
My heart started thumping. I then pushed the bookcase on top of him, hoping that would buy me some time. I then ran to the old elevator and pulled my phone out of my pocket. I needed Rumple. I need Rumple. My mind was racing.
I got into the elevator and thankfully the elevator closed, but I heard him banging on the door. I dialed Rumple's phone, hoping he'd answer. "Hey, Liana," he said.
"Rumple. I'm in the elevator. There's a man here. He broke in. He wants to kill me."
"Liana, you're breaking up. Who's in the library?"
"A pirate. Captain Hook."
"Ana?" he questioned.
"He's missing a hand. Hello?"
+++
The pounding continued... and continued... and doors were starting to open... I stood back, waiting for the worst to happen.
I sighed in relief. It was only Rumple. "Liana? It's okay, it's okay. It's okay," he said as I ran to give him a hug. "Here."
Rumple placed his jacket around me. "Where is he?" I questioned.
"I don't know. But you have nothing to fear, my love, I'm here now," he said.
I then hugged him again.
+++
"Where are you going?" I asked, as we walked out of the library.
"The shop," he replied.
"Why?" I asked.
"Well, let's just say there are many wonderful things in there that I could use to make sure that pirate never comes near you ever again."
"Rumple, sweetheart, no," I said. "We need to report this to the Sheriff. They'll take care of him. You're so close to finding your son. Please, please don't let your hatred for this man get in the way of that."
"But he tried to harm you," he said.
"But why? I mean, what happened between you two?" I questioned. "You've mentioned him before but...."
"Liana, this is really not your concern," he said.
I gritted my teeth. "It most certainly is my concern. He attacked me," I said. We stopped walking.
He nodded and then sighed. "Many year ago, I was married to a woman named Milah. Until Hook crossed our paths."
"She was Baelfire's mother, right?" I asked.
"Yeah," he said. "And because of that marauding cut, he grew up without her." He placed his hand on his chest. "He took my wife, he took Bae's mother. So... I took his hand."
Rumple then started to walk again. "That's why he came after me. But what about her?" I asked. "I mean, what did he do?" I asked, as we stopped in front of the shop and Rumple pulled out his keys.
I then held my hands in his. "Sweetheart, you can tell me anything. No matter what it is I'll still love you."
"She died," he said. "That's all that matters."
My heart dropped and I didn't bother to ask any more questions. He unlocked the door and we were in his shop.
As soon as I turned around, I saw that it was a mess. "What happened here?" I asked.
"Hook. This is why he attacked you," he said.
Rumple started to walk towards the safe.
I scoffed. "To get you out of the store. What did he want?"
He opened the safe and he put his hand on his mouth in shock. The shawl was gone.
Then all of the sudden Rumple started to smash things with his cane. "Rumple! Rumple, love, stop it! Stop! Please!" I yelled. I then walked over to him and placed my arms on his arm.
"Liana, you're right. I have to retrieve what's mine."
I then stepped in front of him as he tried to leave. "Let me help you," I said, holding on to his hand.
Rumple gritted his teeth. "This is my fight," he yelled.
"And this is my fault," I said. "I'd Hook had never attacked me, you would have ever left the shop."
"How do you propose that we get the shawl back? Have you dueled with a pirate before? How exactly are you going to help me?"
"Well, I'm not just going to sit here and do nothing!"
"No," he said. "You're going to go back to the library, lock the door, and wait for me to dispense with this problem."
"And if I don't! You will cast some spell that gives me no choice?" I questioned.
"No," he coed. "No, sweetheart. No. I trust you'll do as I wish, as you trust me to be a better man, just as you became a better woman. Liana, please. Hook has maybe cost me the chance of finding my son. I don't want to lose you, too," he said. I could see the tears starting to form in his eyes. He was being sincere. He really didn't want to lose me.
"Here, look," he said. "I want you to take this," he said, he pulled out a gun. "Just in case Hook is stupid enough to come after you again. Point this, pull the trigger, and the gun will do the rest for you. I know that you have your magic, but this will be much more effective. All right?" He gave me the gun. "All right, love?" he emphasized.
"Yes, yes," I said.
As Rumple was about to leave, I said, "Wait..." He looked me in the eyes. "Promise me that you going after Hook is just about getting the shawl back."
It looked like he was about to say something but then didn't. I sighed as as he left the store.
+++
I ended up going back to the library, just as Rumple wished. I just really hoped that he wouldn't do anything stupid.
I decided to organize the books on the shelf that I tipped over. As I was going through them, I noticed a piece of rope. I picked it up.
I then went over to the section on boats and things, and took out a book called "From The Keel Up: A Nautical Guide."
I then found out the right not. I chuckled. "Hook came here on his ship, that bastard."
+++
I then decided to go off to the docks. As I walked to the docks, I brought my gun with me, just in case. I didn't see any ship around, or any kind of boat. But something still felt a bit off. "Where is it?" I questioned out loud. I could hear seagulls calling in the distance.
I stopped walking as I also heard a creaking sound. I looked up and saw that the seagulls were flying around this one spot. It was cloaked... Smart pirate. I opened the wooden box stand thing, and took some sand, throwing it over the dock. Steps soon appeared. I gasped. "Huh. Found you."
I then walked through the cloaking spell and my jaw widened when I saw the ship. It was huge.
I walked down some stairs quietly, hoping that the shawl would be in one of the rooms down here. I opened a random door. It was just a room with a desk, and some beds. "Hello?" I jumped at the sound of a man's voice.
"Uh... hello? Who's there?" I questioned.
"Down here!" The man replied.
I opened up one of the trap doors and gasped when I saw Archie tied up. He's alive? Regina didn't actually kill him?
"Archie!" I stammered. "You're okay?"
"Yes, I am. Can you... uh...."
I then took one of the swords and cut the rope to which Archie was attached. Archie grunted. Archie then crawled out of the tiny space that he was in. "Go," I said. "Find Mr. Gold. Tell him I'm here. Bring him back to the ship."
"Wait... you're not coming with me?" he asked.
I then heard footsteps above us. Great....
"Go. Go, go, go. There's no time to Argue," I said, pushing Archie out of the room.
I then placed the gun down on the table, and pulled out a chest. It should be in here if anything...
I tried opening it, but it was locked. I looked in the bowl to see if there were any keys. There weren't. I looked somewhere else, on the bottom shelf, found a key and stuck it in the key hole. "Okay," I sighed. It opened, but of course it wasn't in there. Just some gold coins and other trinkets.
"Looking for this?" It was that damned pirate again. He stood in the doorway holding Rumple's shawl.
"That doesn't belong to you," I said.
"Oh, it does now," he said.
I then looked at the gun and as I tried to grab it, so did he. Hook chuckled as he took it from me. "Oh," he said, handling the gun. I leaned against the table. I then started to create icicles coming from my hands. "My dear Liana," he said. "You should have stayed with your books. Real life can get so messy."
He placed the gun at my forehead.
"I'm not afraid of you," I said, showing him my icicles. "And I'm not leaving without that."
"Well, I admire your loyalty. But helping Rumplestiltskin? I'm afraid you're fighting a lost cause." He placed the shawl on the table.
"He needs that shawl to find his son," I said.
"And what makes you think his son wants to be found?" he asked. "Hmmm? I'm doing that boy a favor."
"Have you not hurt Rumple enough?" I questioned.
"Oh," he said. "Well, I've hurt him."
"You stole his wife," I said.
"Tell me something, love," he said. He approached me. "If a woman comes to you and begs you to take her away, is that theft?"
"Why would she leave him?" I asked.
"Because he was a coward," he said.
I gritted my teeth. "Don't you dare,"
"And because she loved me," he said.
He then walked over to the table where the shawl was. "I should have burned this the moment I acquired it."
"Why didn't you?" I asked.
"Because she made it," he replied.
"I'm sorry she died. But vengeance? Vengeance won't bring her back. Trust me, I've been down that route before," I said.
"Died?" he smiled. "Like it was some kind of accident. Is that what he told you?"
"Well, he didn't say exactly," I said.
He approached me again. "No, of course not," he said. "Of course he would leave out the most important detail of her passing."
"And um... what would that be?" I asked.
"He killed her," he said. I was taken aback. He placed the gun at my chest. "He ripped out her heart and he crushed it right in front of me."
I shook my head. "No."
"Oh, yes," he said.
"No!" I yelled.
"Yes," he said. "He would do anything. Anything to hold on to his power. Why do you think anyone who's ever gotten close to him has either run away or been killed?" He then pointed the gun at me again. "Now, what makes you think you're any different? And tell me something darling, why would you want to fight for a man like that?"
"There's many reasons why," I said. "For one... I was just like him before the curse," I said. "I am the Princess of Narnia, daughter of the White Witch. I committed many atrocities, murdered thousands because I was under her control. I was also on the path of revenge.... because of a man I loved... Caspian... was killed. The revenge didn't get me anywhere though. The curse happened, I became a different person. I literally became a different person. Because I still see good in him. Because I believe he can evolve, that he can grow to become a better man just like I became a better woman.... Because his heart is true... and yours... is rotten," I said. I then used my ice magic to knock him out. I took the shawl and ran up the stairs.
+++
As I came on to the front of the ship, I stopped short when Hook came in front of me again. "How'd you... how'd..."
"Oh, I know this shop like the back of my... Well, you know. I suggest you give that back to me now."
"Or what?" I sighed in relief when I heard Rumple's voice.
Hook turned to look at him. "You look different in this world, crocodile. Like the coward I met so long ago. Limp and all."
"And yet," he said. "You still can't kill me."
"Let's have it, dark one," said Hook, as Rumple approached him.
"What magic are you going to hide behind today?" asked Hook.
Rumple laughed. "Oh, no, not magic." Rumple then hit him with his cane. Rumple then hit him again.
"Sweetheart," I yelled. "Come on. Let's go. Alright? Let's go!"
"No, not yet, Liana," he said.
"This... this is what you came for," I said, showing him the shawl. "This is what's going to get you back to Bae."
"You're wasting your breath, love," said the Pirate. "He can't resist. He has to prove that he's not a coward."
"You might want to turn away Liana. This isn't going to be pretty."
"I'm not afraid of gore, Rumple, you should know that more than anyone," I said.
"Well then, enjoy the show," he said.
"Rumple, no," I said. "Rumple that is not want I meant!"
Rumple started to beat him again.
"Do it! Do it, kill me," he said. "He chuckled. "He has to show you how powerful he is."
"No, Rumple, sweetheart. This is what he wants." My voice breaks. "To destroy every bit of good in you."
"Rip my heart out," said the pirate. "Kill me like you did Milah. And then I'll finally be reunited with her."
Rumple then dropped his cane. He looked me in the eyes. "He has to die Liana," he said. Rumple then climbed on top of him.
"No! No, he doesn't. There's still good in you, I see it. I've always seen it. Please, love, please show me I'm not wrong."
Rumple looked like he was going to cry as he looked at Hook and then at me. Rumple then pointed at him. "You take your little ship and sail until you fall off the edge of the world. I never want to see you again. Especially around Liana." He then slapped him gently.
I sighed as Rumple got off him. "Let's go, sweetheart," he said, taking my hand. We then walked off the ship together.
+++
Rumple and I drove to the boarder of town. We wanted to test both objects, one of mine and one of his.
Rumple turns off the engine.
He then takes out the shawl. "This would have been lost if it wasn't for you, Ana," he said. "I would have been lost." I smiled. "After everything you've learned about me, after everything I've done, why haven't you given up on me?" he asked, looking at me in the eyes.
"I've always known, Rumple," I said, looking him in the eyes. "I was just like you once..."
"Yes but you didn't have a clear choice...."
"You're right," I said. "But I've also learned that when you find something that's worth fighting for, you never give up."
Rumple looked like he was going to cry again. "Oh, sweetheart," he said.
We then got out of the car and I walked with him to the line. I held out his shawl for him as he poured the potion on it. Rumple then turned to face me. He ducked his head so I could put the shawl around his neck. "Okay," I chuckled.
"Here we go," he said. "Me first and then we'll do your object."
I nodded and watched as he stepped over the line, him still holding on to my hand gently.
He then let go and crossed the line. Blue magic engulfed him. "Sweetheart?" I questioned.
Rumple turned around. "Liana," he smiled, pointing at me.
I laughed. "Yes," I said. "It worked."
Rumple then grabbed a hold of my hands. "Yes, it did. It did."
"Now we can go and find your son," I said.
"Oh sweetheart," he said. "You are one of the best things that ever happened to me."
I smiled and as we were about to hug each other, I heard a gun shot, and I soon fell over the line. Oh no... I don't have my object...
Then everything went blank. I could only hear someone calling my name. "Liana! Liana!?" The man then laid me down. "Liana!" he cried.
"Liana?" I questioned. "Who's Liana?"
It sounded familiar but I couldn't put my finger on it.
He then looked at his hands that were covered in blood. My blood?
"Oh, no. No, no! No, no!" He cried.
"Oh fear not," said the other man. "She'll live. She'll just have no idea who you are."
"What you've done cannot be undone," the man cried.
"Well, now you finally know how it feels. Well, go ahead, crocodile. Do your worst."
The man then carried me over the line. "I intend to."
My eyes widened in fright as the man above me created a ball of fire in his hands. What in the world was going on?
Then a car was approaching us. "Liana!" he screamed.
He then tumbled over me, pushing me to the side of the road. Whoever this man is... he saved my life... but I wish I knew what was going on. Who is this man on top of me? Who was the man with the gun? Why is there so much blood!?
