Chapter Eleven

Everly was getting tired. She had only given birth not even 24 hours ago. She stumbled a bit and was swept up into the arms of her mate. Robbie's tiny body laying against her stomach. She nodded off.

She could smell the vomit. She'd been throwing up every morning for the last three days. She knew what that meant. She placed her hand over the tiny bump on her too small frame. She knew deep in her gut that this baby would survive. Fear gripped her heart. He couldn't have him. She wouldn't let him.

He had stopped putting wolfsbane in her food days ago. That first morning. He had known. And she couldn't have wolfsbane while pregnant. Her wolf was slowly waking up. He thought that she was weak now. But she wasn't. Not mentally. And with him that's what really mattered. Because he wasn't in his right mind.

She knew that she was the only one left in the basement. She didn't know why the others were gone. She heard his footsteps coming down the stairs. "Here I come my little princess." He almost sang as he made his way towards her. Her breathing picked up and she pressed her back to the corner farthest from the door.

When the door swung open there he stood. Vibrant auburn hair and piercing green eyes. He was not terrible looking but still average. He was anything but average. He was a mad man. "Come now princess. You carry the future. No more basement for you." He thought she was weak and now he was blinded by the baby growing inside her. Holding his hand out he waited for her to take it. She knew right then she was going to have to dance with the devil to escape hell.

Everly jerked awake and found herself looking into her mates eyes. The deep darkness of them soothing her. "Was it a nightmare?" He asked softly. She gently rubbed the baby's back.
"No. Just a memory. The first time I had to take his hand." She looked down as she answered. She wasn't going to keep anything from him. She never had and she wouldn't stop now. The confusion came and went on why she felt so deeply connected with this man. And his wolf. He growled low and she laid a hand on his chest. "I had to escape. And keep Robbie safe." Her words seemed to calm him.
"I just don't like the idea of him touching you at all."

"I know you don't." She said soothingly. She kept her hand on his chest. Feeling his heart beat soothed her in ways that she couldn't explain. Touched her soul in ways that she didn't know was possible.

Suddenly, she started to feel butterflies in her stomach. Talie was pacing in her mind. She slipped her legs off of Liam's arms and he helped her stand. She stood still. She felt something.
"What is it?" He was looking at her with a mix of concern and curiosity. She looked up at him, confused for a moment before she recognized the feeling. Her eyes widened and she took off, full speed, in the direction of the pull.
"Everly!" She heard her mate yell. She knew he'd be right behind her. She ran as fast as she could. Pushing when she should've stopped. She knew that pull. That feeling. She hadn't felt it in so many years. The pull of her pack bond. Someone from her old home lived here now. She pushed a little harder and suddenly broke the tree line. She startled people in the open field. Coming from the opposite end of the open expanse she could see two females. It only took a moment to recognize them even with the years. Tears blurred her eyes. "Everly!" She heard the feminine voice scream as they made contact. Arms surrounded her body squeezing her close. She did the same. She reached behind with one arm the hold the smaller body that had flung herself on her back. They were all three sobbing. Gut wrenching sobs of loss and heartbreak. She could feel the crowd gathering as they watched the heartfelt reunion. A reunion of a broken pack.

Everly learned back and looked into the blue eyes of her best friend. Frankie. "I thought I would ever see you again." Everly marveled as she wiped tears from Frankie's face.
"I thought you were dead Ever. I swear I would've looked if I thought you were alive." Frankie's eyes were full of guilt and regret.
"He didn't want anyone to think I was alive. I thought he'd killed you all." She turned to the little girl in her back. "And you are a surprise little one." She said softly to the little girl that was her sister. Henrietta. Henri for short. She had been covered in blood and three years old the last time she had seen her as she was dragged from her home. She had the same dark hair as herself but with their mothers green eyes. That was really the only difference between them. She looked up and scanned the people gathered until she found her mate. He was looking at her with such, dare she say, love. Her heart melted and she sighed. Who was she trying to fool? She loved him too. She had loved him since the moment she had meet him. Suddenly, Everly stiffened and her eyes rolled back and darkness consumed her.
