Chapter 9. When Fire Meets Chaos

Song:- Intehaan - (Gaurav Gularia).

Choices are the hinges of destiny.

------------------------------------------

Days kept slipping by...

Anaya's connection with Abhi was slowly fading. He was buried under the weight of his matches, and she was left clutching onto fading echoes of their once vibrant conversations. As for Aashi, she seemed distant too—always busy with "work stuff," as she called it. They only spoke over the phone now, and even that felt... off. Every time they did speak, Aashi repeated the same thing:

"When the time is right, I'll tell you... something important."

Anaya could feel the tension in her friend's voice, the hesitation. She knew Aashi was holding something back. But instead of pushing, she waited. Sometimes, silence is the space we give people to gather the courage to speak their truth.

Meanwhile...

Arjun Rajvansh was a man on a mission.

The Mehra family, especially Balraj Mehra, had become his target—professionally, personally, entirely. There would be no redemption. No mercy. When the Devil feels wronged, he doesn't forgive—he burns the entire world down.

And while chaos brewed, something unexpected stirred in the background.

The distance of three years between two friends—Vedika and Arjun—was shrinking, slowly... irrevocably. Krish and Aashi were away on a business trip, leaving Vedika and Arjun under the same roof. Alone.

Vedika, soft-spoken and kind, decided it was time to try. Time to heal the broken threads between her and the man she once considered her closest friend.

Arjun—who usually kept the world at arm's length—began to lower his walls, bit by bit. His connection with the unborn child grew stronger. His protective instincts heightened. He worked from home now, ensuring Vedika was never alone. Every craving, every discomfort—he addressed without a word of complaint.

Vedika noticed.

He hadn't seen Ruhani in weeks.

And Ruhani noticed too.

Her frustration had reached its boiling point. Arjun's avoidance was no longer subtle—it was deliberate. The few times she called, he brushed her off coldly. And worse, he had completely cut her off from the Rajvansh residence.

She was not just angry.

She was terrified.

He was slipping away.

And she knew—if Arjun Rajvansh stopped wanting her, she'd be erased like she never existed.

She had to act.

And fast.

The following day

Arjun was deep into his work, the light from his laptop casting sharp shadows across his face, when a soft knock pulled him out of his focus.

"Arjun..." Vedika's voice came from outside the door.

He immediately stood, shutting his laptop and walking out of the room, carefully closing the door behind him. His study—like his heart—was a place no one was allowed to enter.

"Yes, Vedika? Do you need something?"

"Um... actually... I was wondering..." She hesitated, voice uncertain. "Will you come with me to the hospital today... for my check-up?"

Arjun looked at her, a flicker of surprise crossing his usually unreadable expression.

"I mean, I would've asked Sid," she continued quickly, "but he's at college... and Aashi isn't home either. I just... I didn't want to go alone today."

She saw the familiar mask of indifference return to his face and instantly regretted asking.

"It's okay if you're busy..." she whispered, turning to leave.

"Let's go," he said suddenly.

Her eyes widened. "What?"

"I said, let's go."

Vedika stood frozen in place, unsure if she had heard him right.

"What? Regretting it already?" he smirked, voice laced with that usual dark sarcasm.

She shook her head quickly. "No, no. Let's go."

At the hospital, Arjun's commanding presence turned heads.

Dressed in casual jeans and a crisp white shirt, he looked more like a model walking off a billboard than a man escorting a pregnant woman to the gynecology ward. His powerful aura made nurses whisper and patients stare. Vedika noticed all of it... and smiled to herself. If only they knew the storm beneath that tailored exterior.

Arjun helped her to the waiting area when a nurse approached.

"You're next."

As he moved to take her inside, Vedika halted suddenly.

"What now?" he asked with a slight frown.

"Um... I need to use the washroom first."

He raised an eyebrow.

"I can take you—"

"No!" she interrupted quickly. "You go in first. If we miss the slot, we'll have to wait another half hour."

"You're seriously worried someone else might take your turn?" he muttered.

Women...

Arjun watched her rush away, shaking his head before entering the cabin.

Inside, he knocked.

"Yes, one sec!" came a soft, melodic voice from behind the curtain. "Vedika, please take a seat. I'll be right out."

That voice...

It sounded familiar.

Too familiar.

When the curtain finally pulled back, Arjun turned—and froze.

Anaya stood in front of him, equally stunned.

"YOU?"

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?"

They shouted in unison.

The air between them thickened instantly.

She narrowed her eyes. "What are you doing here?"

"I'm here for a check-up," he said curtly.

"For... who?" She looked him over.

"A baby."

She stared at him. "Where's the baby?"

"In the womb, genius." His voice was sharp.

She blinked. "You're pregnant?"

Arjun gaped. "WHAT THE—ARE YOU MAD? I'M A MAN!"

"Relax! Science has evolved, you know!" she shot back defiantly. "I once delivered a baby from a trans male patient, so forgive me for not jumping to conclusions. You don't exactly scream 'family man' either."

He stepped closer, eyes dark, smirk deadly. "You really think I didn't hear the 'Greek god' part you whispered?"

Anaya's eyes widened.

He leaned in, dangerously close. "You're not wrong, sweetheart. I do look like a Greek god... but trust me—I'm all man."

Her breath hitched.

Heart. Pounding.

Then, as if summoned, Vedika burst in.

"Don't hurt her! I'm here! It's my fault! Don't be angry!"

Arjun rolled his eyes. Pregnant witch.

Anaya stared between them, utterly confused.

"Wait... who was in danger?"

Vedika exhaled in relief. "Thank God you didn't murder her..."

Hormones.

Eventually, things settled. Vedika explained just enough to Anaya—leaving out the part where she had intentionally wanted Arjun to meet Anaya.

Arjun remained silent during the check-up, eyes fixed on the monitor.

When the baby appeared on screen, something shifted in him.

Anaya saw it—saw the softness that flickered through his eyes, a fleeting vulnerability that took her breath away.

He wasn't just a cold-hearted man. There was something broken inside him. Something trying to heal.

And strangely, that moved her.

After the check-up, Vedika stepped away to take a call from Krish.

Anaya turned to Arjun, arms crossed.

"So... not just a brute but intelligent too. I'm impressed."

Arjun smirked. "Glad I could impress you."

"You don't know how to smile, do you?"

"I can do anything."

"Except smile."

He looked away.

"Smiles aren't forced," she added gently. "They happen when your heart feels joy. Like... when you saw the baby today."

He said nothing, but her words hit him hard. Deep.

He had smiled. And she saw it.

Why did it matter that she saw it?

Why did it only matter when she saw it?

Vedika returned, snapping him back to reality. She looked between them, saw the tension, the softness, the question marks floating in the air.

She said nothing.

But she knew what she had to do.

As they were leaving, Anaya looked at Arjun and called out, "Sir—"

He stopped. Turned.

"Next time, be more specific about the patient. The world still needs Greek gods with abs... not pregnant ones with a belly." She winked.

Arjun smirked—and this time, it was almost... real.

He nodded once. "See you."

And walked away.
