Chapter 9- Rebellious
Nightmare was still in this universe. Afraid if he were to leave it'll never let him back in. He wanted this universe, but he doesn't want to cause trouble yet until whatever is blocking him out is taken care of. He was growing annoyed. If nothing is done soon he'd either be caught or he'd be forced to flee.
Nightmare needed to know what was keeping him from returning. He was currently sitting in a small saloon like restaurant. People were inside chatting and eating while he sat silently in the corner. He was taking some sip of water as his mind trailed. There's a reason I appeared here. Whatever is causing this must be here. It has to be.
"Excuse me sir?" Exclaimed a voice next to him. He snapped out of it quickly. Looking up at the solemn woman he smiled.
"Oh, my apologizes I was lost in thought." He said rubbing his head. The young woman smiled.
"Oh no no! Don't worry I just came by to see if you needed anything." She said with a semi worried expression. The waitress pointed at his glass. "Would you like a refill?" She asked him. He shook his head slightly while waving his hand.
"Oh no no it's alright." He said as he stood up. "I'll be on my way, thank you for the hospitality." He gestured kindly as he pushed in the chair. He walked away quickly, not wanting to continue interacting with the kind girl. As soon as he left he felt annoyed again. His expression went back to a resting face. He was heading to some sort of library. Wanting to get information about this land. Who the rulers are, anything about technology, energy surges, anything that may help him.
As he walked out of this village the path continued to a nearby village. Not to far. He didn't really mind the walking. He decided to restrict his powers incase it causes them to react quickly. He didn't want that. Not yet.
Still walking along the path he looked up to the sky. It was so clear and so bright. He gave a quite sigh. "Y/N sometimes I wonder if you see me." He mumbled. "Maybe, maybe not." Nightmare's expression softened. He'd often talk to himself or his deceased wife. Only when he felt vulnerable. When he felt like talking to her, that is if she was listening. "Probably not. You're dead." He added with a defeated. Yeah she's dead.
He was about half way on the path before hearing rumbles on the floor. Nightmare stopped and looked on the floor. The small pebbles jumping. Earthquake? He thought to himself. No. He turned as he heard some heavy hoofsteps. His expression quickly changed. Becoming more serious. Eyeing a group starting to approach. "Rebels? Bandits?" He whispered to himself as they got even closer. The figures were cloaked, with masks, and gloves. "Who are these people." The group approached, they passed him giving no mind to him. They seem to be heading to the village he was going to. He watched as they passed and continued on. He eyed them carefully. Something about them made him feel uneasy. He didn't feel their presence until he felt the hoofsteps. Whoever they are are highly skilled. He growled under his breath. Something about them was pissing him off.
He clenched his hands and angrily proceeded to walk.
He arrived at sunset. The sun was already saying it's goodbye. He liked that. The blazing sun will be put to rest. He kept walking along, finally feeling a bit cooled down now. The night sky was very welcoming. The people were in their homes, lights off etc. It didn't take long for something to happen. This village was just the same as the one he was just at. Poor, dead beat, sad, it was great.
His footsteps echoed slightly. Crickets chirped and roof tiles clanked. Roof tiles clanked? He looked up as a few figures were running on the roofs. Their footsteps were light that it was barely able to be heard. Well he can hear it since he's a completely different being.
They carried bags as what looked like coins were being thrown. The vigilantes from earlier? He pressed on as he saw them heading to the center of the village. It was 3 individuals. Curiosity immediately struck. Who are these people? Why are they doing this? How can they be of use?
He quickened his pace not wanting to lose track of them. Being noticed they made an escape. They dashed between 2 buildings. Quickly Nightmare dashed for it. Sleeping through some of the buildings. Connecting between more buildings. Eventually he heard some whispers. There they are. Slowly he listened as he proceeded to walk along the wall. He took a step forward before hearing a footstep from above. Quickly he turned seeing another figure relatively the same. Quickly he dodged to the side. Before they can confront him again, he grabbed their right hand. He pulled back. Pressing their arm on their back and pushed them to the floor. He then sat on their back. Feeling rather amused about how easy that was. The other 3 figures quickly noticed him. They took out some daggers each taking a fighting stance. "Hey, hey, hey! Let her go." Stated the tallest one. His voice booming to him. Nightmare looked. Giving an annoyed expression. The person beneath him struggled to be release.
Quickly Nightmare let go. He got up quickly. As the smaller figure stood. The voice coughed before looking to him. "Who are you and why were you following us." Said the female voice taking out two slightly longer daggers. Nightmare stood, unbothered.
"Curiousity." He said quickly. "Nothing more nothing else." He said placing his hands behind his back.
"Who are you." Stated another male voice. Next to the tall figure.
"My name is Nathaniel. I just landed in this village, when I saw the heroic act you all were doing. And I must say I'm quite impr-"
Nathaniel didn't flinch. He didn't move. The taller figure held a dagger close to his neck. "Who. Are. You." He stated. Not buying what he said. "You don't seem like a villager around this area." Being a little confused Nathaniel took a quick glance down at himself. Was his fashion sense too uptight? Too clean? Too good taste? Nathaniel didn't really mind is. "What are you here to taunt the people beneath you?" he snarled.
Nathaniel really wanted laugh. What a ridiculous proposal. Nathaniel kept a frown and sighed. "I'm sorry you think that." He motioned his hand up in order to grab the dagger before the figure pressed it against his skin harder. "I was looking for a place to stay for the night." He lied. "I hop from village to village. I just need a place to stay. Until I say what you all were doing!" The man squinted his eyes. His gripped loosened a bit. Quickly giving Nathaniel the chance to grab the dagger. He grasped is quickly and with enough force struck it to the floor. It struck a mouse that was crawling by. "Once again I felt quite star struck about your heroic actions. I was quite curious to see if there is anything I can do to help such a cause."
The group looked down at the dagger. The taller figure looked down at the dead mouse and then back at him. He looked back to his group. He looked back to him again. "Follow us." he mustered. He bent down and picked up the dagger. He turned. He walked towards the group. He whispered a few things before locking eyes with Nathaniel and walking away. Nathaniel smiled happily and followed. I suppose I can start here.
It's still Friday I did it!
