Chapter 8- Caged
Nightmare sat still in his lab. The one place he goes to collect his thoughts. He was twirling the crystallized ring between his fingers. He carefully watches it glisten in the light. He eventually grabbed it again and proceeded to put it on his boney finger. The ring fixated itself to fit promptly. He sighed feeling a little uneasy. Recently things have been going smoothly for him, and he knows that those...people are watching his movements. They're carefully monitoring him and the universes he's taken over. Nightmare needed to find something that'll cause a influx in their activity. If he is able to place a tracker of something along the lines on one of them he'll have everything he needs. So he needed to fish them out. His pawns where more of an eye sore. They never reacted to that. So Nightmare knew he had to take action. Only him.
Nightmare turned to face double doors of his lab. He could hear a voice and footsteps making their way to him. He watched carefully as a Nightshade opened the door. The Nightshade seemed to have been in some sort of panic. He quickly bowed before looking back up at him. "Your Majesty! I-I am sorry to have intruded, but there is something you need to see!"
Nightmare followed the bewildered Nightshade through the double doors that lead to the observatory. Which was more of the univereses being monitored and cameras and all that good stuff. Nightmare followed the Nightshade to the back area. It was closed off and only authorized figures can see it. This was the light room. It's primary use being special universes that Nightmare seeks to conquer but is unable to because of some sort of protection. The few Nightshades inside were already calibrating the increase of activity in these places. Nightmare stood still, amazed at what he was seeing. "My Lord." said a voice behind him. He saw a figure appear next to him. "It seems you have an opportunity."
Nightmare kept his smug grin. "It appears we do." Nightmare walked forward seeing the amount of universes being completely vulnerable. "Seems like whatever was protecting them seems to be malfunctioning." He gently held his chin and looked down. "Luna." Luna didn't say a word and only listened. "Keep an eye out on everything for me. I think I'll be taking a small vacation here." he said pointing to a universe. It was in a more classified file. One of the universes in this file was a very special one. It was an infinite loop, which meant it was never ending. A place like this is perfect for him. He wanted this, no, he needed this. Plus if he were to take over this universe its most likely get those brats to act on that, which means he can at least get some sort of benefit. Nightmare's grin only grew. The lights of the room started to flicker as the universes were now decreasing. It was now or never. "Luna, I won't take long. Give me a couple months. I trust you can keep things in order till then?"
Luna nodded. "As you wish my lord."
Nightmare chuckled. "Good." with that said he vanished from her sight. Luna stayed watching as the universes decreased and whatever protection around them were reappearing. Lastly the last universe closed up. She sighed.
"Good luck my lord."
Nightmare gasped. He opened his eye and looked around frantically. He was in a forest. He was covered in leaves and snow. He looked up at the sky. Dawn was breaking. Confused what kind of world this was he stood up. He slowly shifted his body. The ring around his finger fixated itself as his body shifted. He wore almost the same outfit as before. He proceed to make his way in the forest. As he continued and daybreak was coming to view he saw a small village up ahead. Not wanting to walk he took a step forward which teleported him to a darker area of said village. He teleported behind a building which was casting a shadow down. Good enough for him to stay hidden for a bit while he figured out the place.
He carefully peered the corner of the building. Seeing already a few people up and awake ready to start their day. He watched carefully as a shop opened up. He could tell that this place heavily depended on trade. Already with the fact that this place didn't seem to have an authorized figure any where. If this world was so...disorganized why haven't he been able to come here sooner? No magic barrier of sorts should stop him from doing so. So he was very curious in finding out to why.
Nightmare stayed placed in the shadows as dawn crept in. This place seems like a regular medieval clique out of a book. Nightmare leaned against the wall, thinking of what action he should take. He could easily create some sort of chaos while he's here. Or should he have someone else take the job. He mumbled to himself feeling dissatisfied with his indecisiveness. As he waited for some sort of thought he heard hoof steps. They were heavy and were strong enough to shake the ground. He watched as a group appeared. Curiosity rooted in his head. He walked towards the dirt path. Leaning against the edge of the wall as the group came to a halt.
The group consisted of 5 horsemen. All heavily dressed in armor. Their horse where white with golden armor. Each having their own owner. Nightmare hummed to himself. The people that were out already, stopped and watched the horsemen. Two of them carried a banner with what seemed like a crest on it. A royal crest of sorts. Nightmare watched. The other 3 knights got down from their horses. The were holding bags. Nightmare scratched his chin. He could hear two shop keepers muttering to each other. He was only able to pick a little bit of the conversation. "This is the third time this week." Third time?
"Attention all citizens!" started the knights. "We are here on behalf of the Royal family! Here to collect the last taxation for the week!"
"Last taxation of the week?" mumbled Nightmare. He watched as they came by demanding the money and the citizens hesitated. Nightmare eyed the knights. "Corrupted government, poverty looking country, maybe there's a rebe-" Almost as if on cue the horses started to go crazy.
Nightmare leaned out to see the chaos unfolding. Hooded figures could be seen getting on the horses and removing them from their shackles. The knights either being pushed off or fended off. One of the people grabbed the bag the knight had. Placing their foot on him. Grabbing onto his arm before twisting. The knight fell to his knees as the figure ripped the bag out from his hands. The other 4 figures got on the horses while carrying more bags. Looks like they took it out the carriage. The last figure jumped onto one of the horses as they rode off. Some of the citizens seemed to be laughing and just cursing at the knights. Nightmare hummed to himself. Vigilantes? Nightmare watched them struggle a bit before walking out to get a few answers. Ignoring the guards he turned to talk to the shop keeper. Whispering he took an apple. "Who were they?" He asked taking bite.
The old man hummed turning to face him. His solemn expression gave a small smile. "The villages heros. Taking back what the royal family wants. We don't have much and for them to take what we're living on is absurd." He mumbled. Nightmare hummed.
"So they're just making a laughing stock out of them." The man laughed and nodded.
"Ha ha thats correct." The old man looked at Nightmare one more time. "Are you new around here? Never seen you before." Nightmare stopped chewing. "Don't worry I won't say anything." The old man held his hand out and urged him to bend down. "You should probably keep that to yourself, they don't like newcomers here." Nightmare nodded and swallowed.
"Who's they."
"The royals of course, they don't want people seeing how they're treating us." Nightmare nodded. Seeing what the old man was saying. "Now you just let me know if you need anything...er...sorry I didn't get your name."
Shit. Nightmare bowed. He held his hand out. "Nathaniel." The old man shook his hand.
"Well, Nathaniel I sure hope you like our side of the world here." Nathaniel smiled and nodded.
"Well I appreciate the information. You have a good day." He stated taking another bite and started to walk away. Nathaniel kept walking watching the movements of everyone. Finishing up the apple he turned into an alley way. Tossing the apple. He hummed to himself before smiling. "How much havoc do I want to create."
HOW COME I KEEP FORGETTING TO UPLOAD ON THE DESIGNATED DAY?! Trust me bro it'll get better. I was gonna do a drawing for this but I didn't have time :( I'll still do it, and upload it eventually on here and my art book :) so keep an eye out for that :>
