Chapter 7- Dynamic Duo

"Alright, thank you for letting us know!" stated Jupiter in a peppy tone. She turned to find her brother approaching her. The small team here was already covering up the area. "Damn they're fast." she muttered.

"Very much so." he responded. "Where the other two?" Jupiter pointed to the horses.

"They left already." Phoenix nodded. He looked to his side, down towards the pit. "So what do you think they are?" She asked him, noticing the curiosity. Phoenix crouched down peering in.

He scratched his chin. Squinted his eyes and fell back. Taking a seat his sister looked inside. "I have no idea, maybe some sort of collection thing?" he said with a shrug. "Who knows, this might have nothing to do with him." he said almost defeated.

"Maybe." stated Jupiter. She gently nudged him. "Need some samples?" she asked. He hummed. Thinking to himself. He looked at her with a frown. "You thinking what I'm thinking?" He sighed and got up.

"Unfortunately." He kept frowning as he stretched. "I'll get a rope and some gear." he said turning around to one of the crew members. "Don't do anything stupid." Jupiter gave a thumbs up as he walked away.

"Alright." she whispered as she looked back inside. She cracked her knuckles before leaping in.

Phoenix heard the commotion before turning and running over to her. He peered in. "Jupiter!" He didn't hear a response. "What the hell are you doing!" He called. Not being able to see his sister. He turned, one of the crew members had some of the gear. "May I use that flashlight?" He asked. They went ahead and handed it to him. He grabbed before taking a deep breath and jumped in. Before he landed he pressed his watch. His shoes quickly disassembled into a more simple and flexible appearance. He felt himself hovering before he reached the bottom. "Jupiter!" He cried out again. Where the hell-

"Over here dear brother of mine!" Called someone to his right. He looked over as Jupiter was touching the substances at the bottom. Quickly Phoenix went over and picked up her hand.

"Don't touch that! You don't know what it is!" He sneered. Jupiter just gave him a smug smirk under her mask. Using her hand that had the goo on it she started to mimic him using the hand as a puppet.

"DoN't tOuCh ThAt!" she mocked. "Look how sticky it is." she pestered as she separated her fingers. She pressed her hand up to his face.

"Ew, stop that." he said flicking her hand away. Why am I always stuck with Jupiter's antics. He questioned with an annoyed sigh. Then he heard whispers. He tensed up looking along the walls.

"Down there." Stated Jupiter. The glowing was from the center of the pit. Both the twins bent down to take a peek at it. The glowing was strong coming from under the vines. Jupiter hummed before shoving her hand into the light. Phoenix started to panic.

"Wha-What are you doing!" Quickly Phoenix came to her aid. He pulled her hand back up. "Jupiter you need to stop doing this!" He scolded, starting to feel annoyed. Jupiter only looked at him with an amused expression. She looked down at her hand then at him. He looked down at her hand. She was holding some sort of crystallized orb.

"Hehe. No." She responded bleakly. Jupiter got up as she pulled the orb up with her. It had vines connected to it. Phoenix sighed.

"Sometimes I question your intelligence." He said with a well earned face palm.

"Shut up Phoenix." She mumbled. Quickly she pulled the orb. "Look, look, look" She pestered.

"J-Jupiter I swear to Go-" he was interrupted as Jupiter completely pulled the orb out. She ranked it off. The light of the orb continued as the vines around the pit started to shift. They both looked up as the vines grew. Is this not some sort of energy source?

Jupiter held onto the orb. The whispers continuing. Was it not coming from the orb?  She questioned.

Then the pit started to gurgle. More dim lights started to pop up from under the vine. It hissed frantically as vines started to curl up. "Jupiter!" Called Phoenix looking up. The vines were starting to cover the entrance. His sister looked up finding the lighting of the sky dying. Phoenix was the first to react. He jumped upward. As his sister followed. The entrance was getting smaller. Come on, come on, come on!

He quickly punched through. Ripping it open. They both reappeared next to the pit. "It tried to trap us in." He mumbled before being pestered by the crew members around. All talking at once about what just happened. Phoenix apologized to them feeling a little bad.

"Hey Phoenix!" Called his sister as she started to make her way to him. She held her hands out showing the orbs in fragments. Showing the inside. Quickly his demeanor changed. He gave a sharp whistle.

"Get the remaining shards! Gather any fragments and samples!" He called passing the research team. He walked to his sister as she looked down at her hands. "Effected by sun light huh." He said as she walked with him to a research table.

"I guess so..." She mumbled. She placed the shards on the table. A few crew members came over and started to remove the shards and grabbing as much goo off her hands. "Phoenix do you think this could be some sort of checkpoint?" She asked looking at her brother. "You saw the light right...what if they're supposed to be some sort of portal? The orbs just act as an energy source."

Phoenix pat his sisters shoulder. "Again we don't know if this is even associated with him. For now we'll keep an eye on it. If anything happens we may just need to eradicate this whole forest only with it." He said sarcastically. Phoenix smiled. "For now I'll have clear the area. Gather a few more things before it heads to HQ. I can keep you updated then." She nodded.

"Yeah sounds like a plan." She muttered. "We should probably head out, let Comet and Midnight know what just happened."

Phoenix cringed a little. "Yeah, let's not do that. At least not yet." He laughed a little. "For now let's just focus on what we can do back home." He suggested as he smiled.
