Chapter 4: The First Step

Note: Now we are back to y/n's POV!

CHAPTER 4

The faithful day of the performance had only been a Wednesday, meaning I had two more  excruciatingly long school days until the weekend. On this very weekend, Marcus and I would be having our first date. And let me just say, those two days felt like two years. Well, for the most part at least. The classes and time after school were such a bore, but lunchtime with Marcus never ceased to amaze me. It always went by too fast.

During our lunch conversations, we had come to the conclusion that it would be best to go see the newest superhero film. I used to watch Marvel films all the time, but ever since I acquired my own group of practically superheroes, I hadn't felt the need to fulfill my supernatural need.

However, Marcus seemed pretty excited about  the film. When we talked about it on Thursday, I managed to look into his eyes for a few moments, and I swear they appeared to be filled with longing.

But it was not over some frivolous superhero movie. What Marcus really longed for was a life in which he could protect those he cared for.

Especially me.

After two horrifically long school days, Friday night finally came. I checked my phone for Marcus's address that he sent me, and I managed to walk my way there. His father was going to drive us to the movie theater, and I was was extremely ecstatic to meet him.

Yeah, he is like no other, y/n. But not in the way you wanted him to be.

Douglas Henderson (liar) was quite the guy. He had spiked, light brown hair with blonde highlights, which complimented his green eyes. Strangely, he looked more like the Davenport children than Marcus, his own son.

Oh y/n, if only you knew the truth about their family tree.

Before meeting his father, I first had to enter the house itself, which had a light blue colored exterior. It was the traditional style that you see everywhere, but it looked classy and overall pleasant. I rang his white doorbell, and was pleased to see the handsome face I had grown fond of ready to allow me in.

"Hey, y/n, " Marcus started, subtlety scanning me as he did everyday. "You look stunning, as always."

I blushed, a common sight for when I was around him. "Thank you, Marcus." I observed his clothes, and saw that he was wearing a light shirt and a black faux leather jacket. He tied together the look with black shoes and golden watch. "You look very nice as well, " I added. After that, Marcus returned my blush, opening the door wider so that I could join him inside.

As soon as I entered, his father greeted me. "You must be y/n, " he said enthusiastically. "Marcus doesn't shut up about you." After this snarky addition to our conservation, Marcus blushed even harder (as if that was even possible). But nonetheless, I returned Douglas's greeting and said that I was happy to meet him.

Since the movie did not start for a while, the Henderson's invited me to sit for a moment. As soon as I sat down, Douglas cut right to the chase. "So, how well do you know the Davenport's? I believe the kids are in your grade?"

Once he made the comment, Marcus shot him a look. I was confused as to why, since he was only asking a question. I replied, "Yes I do. Chase and I are best friends, and I see all of them almost every day." Douglas smiled to himself, as if that bit of information had pleased him somehow. I was so naive.

Twenty minutes of chatting had passed, and it was finally time to go to the theater. As mentioned earlier, Douglas drove us and wished us well.

Once we arrived, Marcus pulled me aside before actually entering the theater. "I'm sorry about my Dad, " he said, looking wrongfully sympathetic.

"It's fine Marcus, he was just being friendly."

He nodded at my reply, but as we were entering, he whispered under his breath: "if you only knew." I was confused for moment, but I let it slide, as I wasn't going to let anything ruin my evening with Marcus.

Why aren't you questioning him?!

Nonetheless, us two young lovebirds continued our walk until we entered the movie theater. It was nothing special, containing a ticketing area and following that an array of vast concession and viewing spaces.

After picking up a large popcorn to share, Marcus and I headed off to the exact show room in which the movie was playing in. However, as we walked, I could not focus on anything other than my date. I was mesmerized by his soft brown eyes and his delicate freckles which lightly graced the center of his nose. My fascination developed to the point where Marcus himself had to guide me to my seat.

You were very lucky, y/n. Marcus had been so good to you.

We had finally arrived at our seats, and shortly after, the movie began. Throughout the film, I would look over to Marcus, becoming lost in the same beauty I was usually obsessed with. But towards the end of the movie, he began to catch on. He started to look at me when I did the same to him. We made deep eye contact, strengthening the romantic chemistry between us. By the end of movie, we could not take our eyes off of each other. And when the end credits began to roll, our lips locked for the very first time.

They were soft, gently brushing against mine. Our eyes were closed, yet it appeared that we were so in sync that we knew what each other was going to do next. We were so devoted to each other, that not even the lights could disrupt our passion. In fact, we only drifted part when we no longer possessed the ability to breath.

Our love was magical. Our love was perfect, sweet, and wonderful. It is such a shame that it would be destroyed by what is yet to come.
