ii. spidey senses

"Bingo."

We walked into the lab, our tour guide leading us as I watched my twin brother stare at everything in awe, specifically Mary Jane.

"There are over 32,000 known species of spider in the world," spoke the guide as we strolled through columns and carts of science-y crap, "They're in the order aranae...which is divided into three suborders."

"Wow, that's amazing." said Peter in disbelief, me crossing my arms and blowing a piece of hair out of my face. "This is the most advanced electron microscope on the eastern seaboard. It's unreal."

"I thought there weren't any microscope's advanced enough to clearly see electrons?" I questioned, referencing back to 8th grade science, when I actually paid attention. My question threw a confused face on Harry, him knowing I was very anti-science.

"W-Well yeah," Peter stuttered, also in shock by my question, "But this ones' power is crazy." I began to block out his science talk, looking at Mary Jane who began to seem uncomfortable in Flash's arms. The guide led us to a caged spider, which interestingly enough, I thought was pretty cool.

Peter asked for permission to take a picture of the spider, and Flash nudged him, messing up the photo, and I muttered a silent, "Knock it off."

She then led us to a different cage that was wrapped in webs and was called some weird name. Filistatidae, or something like that. And once again, Peter was shoved while trying to take a photo, and Harry spoke up.

"Leave him alone," Harry muttered, looking the guy up and down.

"Or what?" he spat.

"Or his father'll fire your father." teased Flash, "What's daddy gonna do, sue me?"

"What is going on?" said our professor, interrupting the conversation. "The next person who talks will fail this course. I kid you not." He threatened, leading us foreword, which caused me to walk in the opposite direction, apply all my pressure on my right leg as I purposely stepped on his foot, twisting my heel into his toes, leaving Flash whining and grasping his foot.

"Those guys are jerks," Peter mumbled, and I led our way to the group, and stopping at a cage.

"Hey, look at that spider," said Harry, pointing to the interesting looking creature inside the cage.

"Some spiders change colors to blend into their environment. It's a defense mechanism," Peter spoke, making me groan.

"Peter, what makes you think I would want to know that?" said Harry, following me down to a different portion of the room.

"Who wouldn't?" I heard Peter call from the distance, making me and Harry giggle.

"You gonna talk to her now?" I asked, Peter, breaking his stare from Mary Jane.

"No. No, come on. You talk to her," said Peter, grinning at Harry, who'd face dropped.

"I don't like her that way," said Harry defensively, glancing down at his feet.

"Chickens," I muttered, walking up to Mary Jane.

"Disgusting," I heard her whisper, scrunching her nose. "Yeah, hateful little things." I snarled.

"I love them!" she said, getting even closer to the box. "Yeah, me too." I muttered, nodding my head. "You know, spiders can change their color to blend into their environment." I smirked, glancing back at the boys.

"Really?" said Mary Jane, honestly sounding quite uninterested with our conversation.

"Yeah, it's a defense mechanism." I said, rocking from my toes to my heels.

"Cool." I looked back to the boys, sticking my tongue out and continuing my conversation with Mary Jane.

"--transfer RNA to encode an entirely new genome combining the genetic information from all three spiders into these 15 genetically designed super-spiders," I finally picked up on our tour guide speaking, rubbing my elbows.

"There's 14." spoke Mary Jane, causing me to glance back at the box.

"I beg your pardon?" said the guide.

"One's missing," I turned back to the group. "Huh," said the guide, looking at the box, "I guess the researchers are working on that one."

"Do you know that this is the largest electron microscope on the Eastern Seaboard?" I turned back to Mary Jane, before feeling someone creep up on me.

"You were talking throughout that entire presentation," said Harry, shaking his head. "Let's go talk about we listen," He dragged me from Mary Jane, giving Peter the perfect opportunity to go talk to her. We watched as he asked her a question, then backed up to take her picture.

"Bingo," said Harry, fist bumping me.
