You Couldn't Even Tell I Had Almost Bled To Death On Their Couch*

Monday comes around and when I get to school Kara almost attacks me. She shakes me violently, mumbling incoherent sentences, "what is it?"

"Another attack," -huff- "Andy's hospital," -huff- "over weekend," she takes a deep breath in as Jason, Mya and Damon join Derek and I who are watching Kara struggling for air.

"How do you know?" Derek asked as an overwhelming sense of fear came over me. Kara straights up and puts her hands on her hips.

Derek seems to notice my uneasiness and takes my hand in his, squeezing. I smile up at him just to reassure him but I'm still worried. X seems so familiar but I can't put my finger on it and it worries me, he's been targeting people closer to my friends and family with each new murder.

There have been five murders and I've done nothing. At this point, X is labelled a serial killer now.

"I watch the news idiot," Kara snaps back, rolling her eyes, "but I knew it was X and his little gang of serial killers, my dad took me to the crime scene with him."

"He reluctantly let me see the body but after pulling off the white sheet, smack bang in the middle of this guy's chest was the 'X' surrounded by the spiral," Kara tells our little group.

Everyone looks at each other, a solemn look on everyone's face. We knew this meant that X was serious about not stopping, and that meant his threat yesterday wasn't a bluff.

"But even worse," Kara starts, "my dad was on the phone yesterday, it was a hushed and private phone call but I eavesdropped, this case is now handed over to the FBI, this is an official serial killer investigation."

My eyes widen as I look up at Derek, his face is like stone, he realises what this means. His family will have to go against the FBI to conduct their own hunt for X.

"But X just isn't some normal serial killer, he has a drive and an end goal, he's more than just your average serial killer," Kara looks across at Derek and I, then to Jason...no way...

"He's a supernatural serial killer," Jason mumbles, looking off into the distances.

An air of uneasiness falls over the group, this is more personal than I could have imagined. Not only is my family and I at risk of this psycho but my best friend, boyfriend and his best friend, and who knows how many other students.

Derek is the first to break the rising tension and silence that has consumed us for a few moments, "everyone's in danger now. Keep an eye out, be vigilant, never go somewhere alone and always let this group know where you are, I'll talk to my parents about this."

Everyone nods in unison just as the warning bell goes off, soon everyone has parted ways to first period but the sick feeling hasn't left any of us. We are now being hunted too, and I don't think X would hesitate to kill any of us.

When lunchtime finally comes around we are discussing this topic again, we are all still shaken up but keeping it together, we can't afford to fall apart at a time like this.

"Is everyone okay? Did anyone see anything?" Jason asks the table, snacking on two chocolate doughnuts and coke.

Everyone shakes their head and we go back to a silent lunch. However, as I'm looking around the cafeteria I spot a girl I recognise walking past. "Chelsea!" I call her name.

She turns around and raises a cocky eyebrow, I wave her over and the table looks confused. I beckoned her to take a seat but she stayed standing, giving a very sassy and board look.

"What?" She asks.

In the small-time Kara and Nathan dated, we learnt that he had a younger sister who was a freshman. She took her mum's last name like Nathan considering their father was never present.

"Do you know anything about your brothers' death?" Jason sputters on his drink from the other side of the table and Chelsea is taken aback but her face goes back to being cold in a second.

It may have been insensitive and blunt of me but at this point, I am desperate for answers, even if it means snooping into the Bell's personal life.

"My dad probably did it," Jason chokes on his drink for the second time but now I'm left in shock.

How could she say that, so bluntly? Is their father such a horrible person that his fourteen-year-old daughter thinks he would murder her brother? Is Nathan's dad such a horrible man that he would do this simply to make a point? Well...I guess he already did...

"Why do you say that Chelsea?" Derek asks, noticing me spinning my ring unconsciously.

Chelsea scoffs and rolls her eyes. "That man is a heartless bastard that will burn in Hell one day, from what I heard that man wouldn't stop at anything to reach his goal," she spits, pursing her lips.

I look around the table for a second, everybody seems shocked at this response as well and I hesitate with my next question, "do you...know what his goal is?"

She sighs and her hands drop to her sides, "I don't know and I honestly couldn't care less, he left before I was born but from what I heard his job is some top-secret illegal shit."

"One last question," Damon speaks up from across the table, "what's his last name?"

"I'm not sure, mum refuses to talk about him but it's a colour or something like that, really common," she shrugs then turns and walks away.

I turn back to face the table and sigh, well that wasn't very helpful, but that girl clearly needs some therapy for her childhood trauma.

"That wasn't very helpful," Kara mumbles, leaning her head in her hands.

Mya nods and places a comforting hand on her shoulder, Kara freezes before her face seems to catch fire. Oh, Kara, you may be fooling everyone else but not me. Mya notices me staring and smiling at them and goes to remove her hand.

I shake my head and wave her off, she places her hand back on Kara's shoulder and grabs her hand as well, Kara looks up at Mya who is smiling down at her. They continue to stare at each other, forgetting we are here as well.

"Jason, Damon," I speak up catching their attention, "can you go grab me something from the vending machine outside?"

"But you don't eat foo-"

I slap a five-dollar bill into Jason's hand and smile sweetly at him, gesturing with my eyes over to Kara and Mya. He smiles, getting the hint and tells Damon to go with him, Derek looks down at me funny but I point over my shoulder to where Kara and Mya are giggling together.

"Is Kara into Mya?" He questions, dumbfounded.

"Yes dumbass," I whisper to him, chuckling at his oblivion.

He pouts and I give him a quick kiss which makes him smile again, just then I hear Kara squeal and Mya laughing at her. I look over to them but Mya has already pulled Kara close and pushed her lips onto hers, I quickly look away and giggle, Derek sees the same thing and looks down at me alarmed.

"I think that answers my question."

Tuesday comes and goes, then Wednesday seems to drag on forever considering we are all hanging out at Derek's place after school today, apart from Damon, who apparently had family business to deal with. As soon as the bell goes we all meet outside and find Laura sitting in the minivan waiting for us.

We all pile inside and drive forty minutes to Derek's house. When we pull into the driveway almost everybody in the car is in shock of where Derke and Jason live and get to roam on a daily basis. To be honest this place still leaves me in awe.

We hop out of the van and Laura heads inside, Derek offers a tour and the others jump on that idea immediately. He shows them the same places he showed me, we stop at the food store so Derek can grab a few snacks for us, again people bow which amazes the girls and still makes me feel awkward.

When we leave the store Mya walks beside us, holding Kara's hand. "So..." she drags, "why did they bow?"

"Derek is the next alpha, they think of him like a prince," Jason speaks from behind, catching all our attention.

"Is that true?" Mya asks, excitement filling her face.

Derek nods then looked down at me, I swear to Lucifer if he throws me under the bus right now... "and that means Evangeline here is like a princess," son of a bit-

Kara squeals and runs in front of me, she grabs both my hands and begins jumping, I look at her in shock. "This means we can dress you up and everything!"

Derek laughs at my struggling but I agree it would be fun to dress like a queen. "Please, my wardrobe is nicer than anything Derek could pick out," I joke and hear Jason yell 'burrrrnn' making us all laugh except Derek.

As we are walking back to the house Kara calls out to us, standing next to a separate path. "This sign here says this is a faster route," she points to the path and I realise what path it is.

Derek's hand tightens in my own and my hand unconsciously reaches up to touch the now healed bullet wound. Jason looks at both of us then back at the girls, "but this route is more scenic, want you guys to see prettier things," he tells them smiling.

They nod, still unsure but we head back anyway, by the time we get back it's now time to eat considering the sun has gone down already. We walk into the kitchen area but I pause for a moment, glancing at the lounge area.

You couldn't even tell I had almost bled to death on their couch only three days ago, everything was in order and nothing looked unusual. I snap out of it when Derek grabs my hand. "Mum said we have the house to ourselves tonight," he whispers, pulling me closer.

"Are you okay?" He whispers, holding me tightly against his chest.

I nod slightly, although tears are brimming my eyes. "It's just upsetting to think I could have died on that couch," I mumble, a sob escaping my lips.

Derek holds me tighter, stroking my hair and back, trying to soothe me and it works.

"Hey, guys what do we want for dinn-oh..." Jason's voice bounces off the wall, Derek turns us around so my back is now to Jason. I hear other footsteps enter the room and come to a halt, realising what's happening.

"Eve, what's wrong?" Kara's voice comes from behind me, I have to tell her...

I look up at Derek through slightly teary eyes, he understands what I want and lets me go, but still holds onto my hand. Kara looks at me through worried eyes, "I almost died."

Kara looks like she wants to yell at me, and I prepare for it but it never comes, instead, she slowly places her hands on my shoulder and pulls me into a tight hug which catches me off guard.

"How?" She whispers.

We all move into the kitchen area where I explain what happened, summarising it, Kara looks like she's about to cry the whole time and I can feel how tense Derek is beside me.

"Well this means we have to do something, urgently," Mya demands, holding Kara close to her.

Derek suddenly stands up abruptly, dropping my hand in the process. "No, Evangeline almost died, if I can't even protect her within my own land it means none of us are safe, and I don't know about you guys but I don't want dead friends," he states, holding a firm ground.

"But Derek," Jason stands up from the opposite end of the bench, "innocent people are dying, come on man, we have to do something," he pleads.

I also stand and take Derek's hand in mine, Jason has a point but right now I'm on Derek's side. I'm not a fan of watching my best friends die at the hands of a psychopath supernatural serial killer.

"Jason, for now, my parents have said that we leave it to the authorities, this isn't our business," he throws back at him, "don't force my hand Jason."

He quickly backs down and I try to force Derek to sit back down but he stays standing, glaring at Jason who is moving in his seat awkwardly. "Derek..." I whisper, pulling on his arm to sit back down.

He pauses for a moment before sitting back down next to me. The tension is still hanging in the air but starts to fade when Kara suggests we order pizza, after that everything seems to go back to normal but I can tell this argument isn't over.

* * *

"Okay, okay, okay, wait a minute!" I laugh, waving my hands for Jason to stop his story, "Derek did that?"

"Yeah! I couldn't believe it myself!" Jason chuckles as we all laugh, sitting on the floor of the lounge, well Derek isn't laughing, he looks annoyed but also amused.

Jason was telling the story of how when they were kids that Derek once chased a deer almost all the way to the Washington border, then almost got caught by another pack up there.

"Derek you idiot!" Kara laughs at him as her and Mya roll on the floor.

"How did I not hear about this!?" I ask him while laying down in his lap and laughing.

He shrugs and leans back on his hands, "I didn't want to embarrass myself."

Just then there's a knock on the door, Kara and I stand up and go to answer, still coming down from a laughing high. I open the door and the pizza guy is standing there, five pizza's in hand.

"Five pizza's?" The guy standing in the doorway smiles, he looks like one of the seniors my brother knows.

"Thanks," I say grabbing the money from Kara as she takes the pizzas.

He's about to take the cash when there is a thud and blood splatters all of the cash in my hands and me. My hands start to shake widely as I look down at the arrow in his chest and there is an instant sick feeling in my stomach as the screaming from Kara deafens me.

I look up at the guy's face which is frozen in shock before he drops forward inside the doorway in a pool of his own blood. My heads starts to spin as muffled footsteps enter the room, my eyes, however, focus in on the trees to see a woman with glowing yellow eyes standing next to a man that is shrouded in dark clothes. X.

The women lowers a bow and yellow smoke picks up around them, they are soon covered completely and once the smoke is gone they disappear. I glance down at the arrow coming out of the boys back and see there's a note attached to the arrow.

I crouch down and pick up the note, dropping the cash out of my hand. Blood has soaked the note but it's still eligible and makes me shake even more, but I take no notice of the smell, only the words etched on the paper.

To Evangeline and friends,

I'm sorry you had to receive this note this way, but I had to make a statement and a point, but take this warning. Stop trying to find out who we are.

I know everything there is to know about you and I will not hesitate to kill your helpless brother Andy sitting in that hospital bed, reminds me of Rosalee when she was sixteen, all my fault but, minor details.

Say hi to your parents for me Evangeline, it's been a while. But remember, if you don't stop it won't just be this innocent student I'll be killing, it'll be everyone you love.

All the best to you innocent teens who will never live up to what your parents accomplished.

Love X

Mum and dad know way too many people for me to even begin guessing who this is, but one thing is for sure, this person hated my parents so much that they have been playing revenge for years and have gone to extreme lengths to accomplish it.

A hand lands on my shoulder and I jump, almost dropping the note. I turn around to see Derek with a worried expression on his face. "Are you alright darling?" He asked, cupping my cheek.

He notices the note in my hand, he looks at Jason who is trying to comfort the girls and tells him to head back into the lounge. Once we are all there, the note gets passed around to read. Jason finishes reading the note and looks at all of us.

"This can't stop us, not now," he says, lowly at first but his voice slowly rises and becomes more demanding and powerful, "X is our business, not the cops, he is hunting out people and we have to do something about it. We know the most about him as of now, he is our problem."

Jason hands the note back to me and I nod in agreement with him, after what happened less than ten minutes ago it's safe to say I'm not going to stop until X is stopped and hopefully, dead.

"I agree with Jason. X is nothing to what my parents dealt with when they were just older than us," I state, shoving the note in the pocket of my jeans. Time to create a box of evidence.

"What did your parents do?" Mya asks, looking around at all of us. That's right, she doesn't know the story.

So we tell her. When Derek's parents and mine lived in New Zealand, they dealt with some horrible people that were trying to put themselves at the top of the supernatural world, like white supremacists but for supernaturals.

In 1997, when all our parents were in their final year of high school they took down these people, Shadows. They are a very rare type of supernatural but very dangerous, they can shape any form of darkness to their will and can disappear into the darkness then reappear without you knowing.

Since they are so rare they usually live alone all their life, but this group banned together to try to take over, they had to fight them off with the help of their siblings as well. The worst part is, the leader was my dad's dad, my grandfather, luckily that horrible man is dead.

They won that fight but not without loss, Derek's dad lost his twin brother Ace in the fighting, that's where he gets his middle name. Mum lost her best friend, Isabell, that's where I get my middle name from. None of them were the same after that, permanently traumatised by it all.

They all spread out around the world, both our families moved here in 2004 when I was only two. They had a fresh start and have not been in contact with anyone since then, but that threat was worse, they faced the most powerful group ever and won, we are facing a dumb human who is out for revenge.

"I say we stand up to X, take him down and save innocent lives," I say, looking around the group than to Derek, whose face is expressionless.

"Agreed," Damon speaks from over the phone. We called him so he would stay informed about the decisions we are making.

"We are more than enough to take him on," Kara says, "I've been practising more advanced magic that could help and I've been practising my speed, I can almost get to Hawaii in an hour, I can check all the coastlines for anything."

"I've noticed my strength has increased a lot and my senses have heightened, I think the more primal side of me can tell something is coming," Jason smiles seriously.

"I may not be any help, considering I'm human, but I'm pretty good at sneaking around and climbing," Mya perks up.

I smile at my group of friends, we could theoretically pull this off if we try. I look over at Derek who looks slightly mad at everything, Derek please don't ruin this...

"I have noticed everything about me is getting better," he says, sitting up straight, "abilities that enhance with becoming an alpha have started showing up, I can also tell something is coming."

I place my hand on Derek's and smile at him, this is good.

"We won't fight unless it comes down to it," he tells everyone, "but I say we launch our investigation now, without telling anyone."

Everyone cheers on this and it makes Derek crack a smile while rolling his eyes. I'm glad he came around, I press a kiss on his cheek and smile at him, I'm proud of him for coming around to this.

"Okay, how about that pizza?" Derek asks, everyone cheers and laughs again.

X, watch out, because we're coming for you and none of your threats will stop us.
