Stop Serial Killing*
When I arrive at school Kara is waiting for me by the schools' gates, she waves me over frantically. She is wearing a long floral dress with a sweater underneath and her black Doc Martens, "you look nice."
Kara smiles and loops her arm with mine as we make our way down to the bleachers. "And you look breathtaking pre usual," she giggles.
We walk down the bleachers right up to the front row and take our seats. "Mya!" Kara calls to Mya who is with the cheer team on the field.
Mya spots us and waves, she runs over to us and we lean over the fence. "You guys ready for tonight?" She asks.
"Of course!" Kara exclaims, making Mya laugh. I lean back a bit, watching the interaction between the two, Kara has a faint blush coating her cheeks and Mya keeps looking down and biting her lip. Oh, I see.
"Game's starting soon, catch you guys later," Mya waves, running off. Kara's eyes linger a bit longer on Mya as she runs back to her squad.
I bump her shoulder and she looks at me confused, I smile knowing and she gasps as we take our seats. "No, you know I don't swing that way," she rolls her eyes but I notice the faint blush on her cheeks and the smile dancing on her lips.
If Kara hasn't accepted herself I won't pressure her.
I end up zoning out while looking at the treeline at the far end of the field, it's weird to think someone's body was dumped there only a few days ago. As I look at the tree line I spot a figure of a man running past, I blink and shake my head hoping it was just my imagination but when I look back there are two pairs of eyes staring. Yellow and green.
I look at Kara but she is too busy posting on her Instagram story to notice, I look back again but this time they are gone. I hope it wasn't who I thought it was and they leave the game alone.
Just then the players begin running onto the field, the crowd cheers for them and when I spot Derek I cheer louder. The crowd cheers louder when they see Damon, he is the school's golden boy and captain after all.
The teams get into their starting positions and the crowd goes silent, waiting for the first whistle to blow. The silence is heavy and makes me anxious, it isn't an excited heavy, it's a 'something bad is coming' feeling. It doesn't help that the sun is gone, the spotlights illuminate the field and a small fog has rolled over.
The whistle blows and at the same time the crowd begins cheering and you can hear the players' gear colid. Kara and I begin to cheer loudly, I smile to myself as Derek grabs the ball then hands it off to Damon who bolts down the field.

Later on, I tell Kara I'm just going to head to the bathroom and for her to fill me in if anything happens. I squeeze past the people and make my way up the bleachers to head into the girls' locker room.
I use the bathroom and head over to one of the sinks to wash my hands, I dry them and begin making my way to leave when the lights go out. I head over the opposite side of the room where the light switch is, I flip it but nothing happens.
Out of the corner, I spot something moving past the lockers. "What the?" I mumble to myself, walking cautiously through the locker room, keeping an eye out.
"Hello, Evangeline," A voice echoes throughout the room. It's a man's voice, one that sounds familiar but in a deeper tone, like something is distorting it.
I quickly look around the room making sure nothing is watching me. "Where the Hell are you?" I ask to nothing in particular.
I round one of the locker columns, at the end standing in the middle of the room is a man. He is surrounded in yellow smoke and has a hood over his head and that same mask on, his eyes are glowing green and he's dressed head to toe in what looks like a military black suit.
"Who are you?" I ask the man. My fists clench at my sides as I try to remain calm and confident, he seems completely relaxed though which makes me worry even more.
"In time you'll come to know," he said, taking a step forward. "I'm someone you're familiar with but for now, just call me X," he chuckles to himself, stopping halfway down the aisle.
My jaw clenches as I spin my ring slightly. "You killed an innocent supernatural, why?" I bite.
He chuckles at my remark only making me angrier, I can feel my eyes changing from red and blue but I don't care. "They aren't innocent, none of them are, but I'm not stupid. My villain monologue comes later in the story when I have you alone and you've almost figured out my master plan," he shrugs, I can sense a cocky smile on his face.
"You're crazy," I tell him.
"Maybe," he shrugs, "but I'm not the one who just abandoned their friends."
My eyes widen just as he disappears in a cloud of yellow smoke, suddenly I can hear the screaming and yelling coming from outside, Kara. I run to the open door but it slams in my face, I try to open the door but it's locked.
"You can't leave until we finished what we came here to do," the demonic voice of a woman comes from behind me.
I go to spin around but something grabs my ankle, it pulls me to the ground and drags me along the ground. It starts to pull me away from the door and I yell out, I quickly grab the edge of the lockers as I fight against this thing.
"Let go!" The voice shrieks, pulling me harder.
I thrash and pull trying to fight this thing, I kick its hand with my foot and it screams letting me go. I stand up and super speed over to the door, I hit the handle multiple times before it breaks causing me to hurt my hand.
I brush off the pain and shove my way outside, slamming the door. I push a couple of bins full of rubbish in front of the door so it stays closed, I turn back around and see people running from the field and out of the school looking wild.
I start heading towards the field but one woman grabs my arm. "Don't go down there, they have guns!" She tells me before running off. Guns?
"Evangeline!" Somebody shouts my name. I run out onto the bleachers and see Kara and Mya are pinned against a wall, three men dressed in black combat gear pointing guns at them.
Derek and Jason are in the middle of the field defending Damon as they are being circled by the same type of people. I look out for any people but nobody is around anymore, I push myself off the bleachers and fly over to Kara and Mya, I land in front of them and the people seem surprised I came out of nowhere.
"Don't touch my friends," I say, quickly casting an illusion of blinding like the one I used on Liam.
The men begin looking around frantically, I turn to Kara and Mya who are holding onto each other, I nod at them and they run off to hide somewhere. I quickly hit all the people on the head, making sure to knock them out.
I look just in time to see Derek slam a guy down on the ground, he grabs the guy's hair and begins hitting his head on the ground until he's unconscious. He looks up at me with a wild look, I notice his eyes are bright red and blood is dripping from his mouth.
I slowly approach him as Jason leads Damon off the field to make sure he is safe. "Derek?" I walk slowly towards him one hand extended, he growls lowly and backs away looking disoriented.
"Hey, hey, it's just me. Evangeline, Eve, your girlfriend," I say calmly, getting closer to him.
I lightly hover my fingers above his forehead and we both crouch down at the same time. He snarls at me slightly but I notice his eyes changing from red to yellow, a good sign. I delicately place my fingers on his forehead and he visibly relaxes at my touch, his eyes are now changing between yellow and brown which brings a smile to my face.
I move closer to him and hold my hand against his cheek. "Derek, love," I whisper, he closes his eyes and leans his head on my shoulder in defeat. I wrap my arms around him and rub circles in his back to help calm him.
"Sorry about that," he breathes, "werewolf thing."
I chuckle at him and tell him it's okay, I help him stand to his feet as he looks at me with a smile, thanking me. Just then we hear a scream come from what sounds like, under the bleachers, it didn't sound like it was from any of our friends.
Derek and I look at each other, worried. "Who could that be?" He asks, looking at me. As if I know.
"I don't know but I sure hope they are alright," I say, running off at super speed in that direction, going under the bleachers. I'm faster than Derek because he has to stick to his human form right now.
When I get there, one of the students is being held at gunpoint by the man from before, X. I don't know who the student is but they are human or else they would've fought back, they are trembling and sobbing heavily in X's hold while he smiles.
"It's going to be okay," I tell the student, hands outstretched trying to calm her down. She nods at me and I smile but I notice X just rolls his eyes.
"Why would you tell her that?" He asks, jamming the gun against her temple, "it's too late."
I don't have a moment to react before he pulls the trigger then disappears in a cloud of yellow smoke. I watch in horror as the girl's body falls to the ground, blood beginning to poll all over the grass, I squeeze my eyes run and turn away, letting a tear fall.
The smell of human blood has already blown over to me and I'm finding it hard to resist, it smells so good, like a blast of cool fresh air. My hands start shaking rapidly as I glance over at the girl, her eyes now wide and lifeless as they stare up at me, I sob as try to calm myself.
I can't feed on a dead girl.
"Eve, what's wr-" Derek is cut off when I fall into his arms, trying to keep myself away from the blood. It smells so good.
"I-I can't be here right now," I murmured, gripping Derek's shirt tightly. He holds me tightly against him and strokes my hair, muttering comforting words.
Jason, Mya, Kara and Damon show up and all audibly gasp at the sight in front of them. "Oh God," I hear Damon whisper under his breath, turning away and leaning against the bleachers. I guess he doesn't do too well with blood either.
Derek walks me away from the girl and everyone follows, we walk up the bleachers and just sit there, the unconscious people have also all disappeared from the field which is odd. What's going to happen now?
* * *
Monday morning came which wasn't easy for anyone, the whole school was mourning the loss of the girl. Her name was Crystal and she was a year under me. I passed her locker on the way to first period and there were pictures, flowers and cards all in front of it. I could have saved her...
"Evangeline, cheer up, things will get better," Kara said, linking her arm with mine as Mya does the same on my other side.
I sigh at this, it won't get better and I know this, X said so. I haven't told them all about my run-in with X, I don't think we need that right now and I'm not ready for that talk yet. "I know I just feel like we could be doing something," I mumble as we all walk into AP History.
The entire day is almost a complete blur up until lunchtime. You can tell a heavy atmosphere has blanketed the school as you see some sophomores crying in the hallways over their lost friend. I could have prevented that...
"Are you guys going to the funeral for Crystal this Saturday?" Jason asks, sitting down at our lunch table. Even his usual upbeat attitude isn't there.
"I suppose we should all go, it's the least we can do," Mya sadly smiles and everyone nods. I catch Kara and Mya both staring at each other, smiling. They would be cute together.
"Hey," I pipe up, catching the attention of the table, "don't you think we should talk about Friday?"
Everyone looks at each other uneasily and confused, they seem to be avoiding talking about it which, to be fair, I would rather not talk about it too but we need to. This guy is after half of us here.
"My parents said that we can't do anything since major crimes have taken the case, we have to let it go," Derek says, holding my hand lightly.
I shot a glare at Derek in disbelief, I thought he would support me. "But this isn't a human affair, it's supernatural," I tell the table, ripping my hand from Derek's.
"We don't know that," Damon said, looking at Derek, concern evident on his face.
"I know that!" I shout, catching some people's attention but they quickly go back to their conversations. "I meet the guy," I mumble, looking down.
"What?" My friends all say in shock and I nod.
"His name is X and he basically said that's his mission, death to all supernatural," I mumble, looking down as I try to prevent tears from falling. Saying his 'name' again only brings back memories of him killing somebody innocent.
"Derek, talk to your parents about it," Jason tells him, agreeing with me.
"I can't," he said, everyone looks at him in shock, me the most. "They won't budge and told me to tell everyone to stay out of it, frankly I agree," Derek signs, his lips pressed tightly together.
Damon and Jason share confused looks with each other but then nod slowly. "I think that's for the best too," Jason mumbles, I snap my head over to him just as everyone else nods in agreement.
I frown slightly at this news but it soon turns into anger as I come to the realisation my friends don't care. "You're all unbelievable," I mutter, grabbing my bag and standing up from the table.
I walk out of the cafeteria as Derek calls my name but I ignore him. I don't bother heading to P.E. class because I'm not in the mood to see Mya or Derek right now, I walk all the way home, letting my anger simmer away slowly. When I get home I open the door and go to call out but realise dad won't be getting home till seven tonight and Andy and Liam should still be at school.
I complete my after school routine before walking upstairs to my room, as I pass Andy's room I hear music coming from it. I open the door and see him sitting on his bed playing music.
"Evangeline!" He shouts, pulling his sleeve down, "get out!"
"Why are you home?" I ask him, stepping slightly inside his room.
He fumbles around to pause his music before speaking to me. "I felt sick, okay?" He snaps, I'm taken aback for a second then I nod.
He raises his eyebrows at me and makes a shoeing motion, I feel a pang in my chest but leave and shut his door anyway. Andy's in a bad mood, he usually isn't, at least not with me.
I head into my room and lie down on my bed, I have no motivation for school work or to do anything simple. That night wasn't kind though. I couldn't rest at all because I was being haunted by nightmares, replying Friday night over and over again, reminding me I could have saved her but I didn't.
It's my fault she's dead...
These nightmares turned into daymares and they plagued me all day. "Eve, you alright?" Derek asked me first, I replied with, "I'm okay."
"Hey girl, you good?" Mya asked next when we had a class together, I gave her the same reply as Derek, "I'm fine."
"Hey babe, you okay? You look out of it," Kara asks me when she sees me at my locker but she doesn't get a different reply.
"Hello Evie," Jason greets with an arm over my shoulder, "why so down?" Just because he said my nickname and was upbeat doesn't mean he'll get a different response.
Damon and Liam both ask me how I am but I give them the same response before carrying on with this draining day, my body on the verge of collapsing into tears. A voice calls my name from behind me, instead of stopping I continue walking to my next class.
"Eve...please..."
I stop dead in my tracks, I bite my lip to stop me from crying and turn around to see Andy walking towards me. "What's wrong?" He asks, his face full of concern as he places his hands on my shoulders.
I crane my head to look up at Andy. He's so much taller than me, close to six-two now, it's crazy how much things have changed since three years ago. "Evangeline, let me help," he softly speaks.
At those words, I drop my book and pull Andy into a tight hug as I start sobbing into his chest as he holds me tightly against him. "I got you Eve, it's okay to cry," he whispers, holding me tightly in his arms.
After a few minutes of crying heavily, I manage to calm myself down enough to speak. "I-I could have, could have saved he-her," I stuttered, tears still running down my face.
Andy wipes the tears off my cheeks but they keep coming, he doesn't stop though. "You can't save everyone, but you have to move on," he tells me, I begin to calm down as he wipes my tears away.
"But-"
"No Evangeline, no excuses. This may sound harsh but if you continue to blame yourself you'll destroy yourself," he says, pulling me into a hug, "I can't see my baby sister do that to herself."
I smile slightly as my tears finally dissipate. "What about my friends? They don't want to help find out who did it," I ask, pulling away from Andy.
"They'll come around, trust me," he smiles, ruffling my hair. I laugh slightly and slap his hand away, we say goodbye as I make my way to English even though the teacher will kill me.
Lunchtime comes around and Damon comments about how I seem better which I tell him I feel better. We walk into the cafeteria and I spot a new person at our table, odd but okay. I take my seat next to Derek and he wraps an arm around me, placing a kiss on my forehead.
"Who's this?" I ask, grabbing my drink.
"I'm Izzy, my family just moved a couple of houses down from the school," she smiles but it doesn't reach her eyes, just like Nathan, gives me the same feeling too.
She looks way too old to be in high school as well, and her eyes look unnatural. They are green but in different lightings look more yellow, her face is extremely pale and looks almost dead. I don't trust her.
"Eve, don't be so sour," Derek laughs, nudging my side as I continue to glare at Izzy.
Everyone falls into a casual conversation for the rest of lunch before the bell rings. Derek, Mya and I make our way to P.E. and head down to the field, I'm surprised the principal opened it after Friday's incident.
"Evangeline, I hope you know we are all sorry for yesterday," Mya says as we sit down on the bleachers as does the rest of the class. "We just think it isn't our business, at least not at the moment," she smiles and I nod.
"We're going to do the same running exercise as the first day, same groups," Mrs Dubois announces to the class, Derek sits with us but Nathan isn't anywhere to be seen. "Has anyone seen Bell!?"
The last time I saw Nathan was walking the hallways Friday, I haven't seen him since. Our group heads down to the start line and waits for the whistle, once it goes we take off running. "This reminds me of the first day," Mya chuckles beside me and I laugh at the thought. We've come so far since then.
As we get close to the halfway point beside the tree line I look into it and come to a fast halt. Derek stops too and asks me what's wrong, Mya jogs over and gasps. "I think we found Nathan," I mumble.
Hanging from a tree a few steps from the track is Nathan, he has a note attached to his body and the same mark carved into his chest. I cautiously walk over to him as the class begins walking over too, I grab the note and walk back to Derek and Mya.
"What does it say Evangeline?" Mya asks.
"He disobeyed us. My own son. Now he's dead. Next, it's you."
This can't be good...
