Blood Moon, A Party And Derek = The Perfect Recipe For Disaster*
After Kara went on her rant about how much of an idiot Nathan is (like never calling her, never showing up to hang out with her at break, talking to other girls etc) she lent me a pair of shorts and a hoodie. We curled up on her double bed, grabbed her laptop and watched some horror movies to distract the both of us.
"Ew, ew, ew," Kara squeals, looking away from the screen. We're watching 'Train to Busan' even though it was Karas' suggestion, she doesn't enjoy it that much.
"I'll turn it off if you hate it so much," I chuckle at Kara, she is hiding behind a pillow.
Gore isn't Karas' strong point unlike me. I have seen way worse in real life while fighting other supernatural beings, it's not pretty but I grew accustomed to it over time, it doesn't get to me as much anymore. You'd think with Kara's dad being a police officer she would have seen something but nope.
"No!" She shouts, turning back to the screen to watch the movie with me.
That lasts another two minutes before I have to turn it off. After that, we get comfortable in bed and start talking to each other, Kara ends up falling asleep by one a.m.
The next morning, I'm out of bed at the same time as her dad, Chan. He wakes up at five a.m. to leave the house for work at seven. "Good morning Mr Matin," I greet as he stands at the coffee machine waiting for his coffee.
"Morning Evangeline," he greets, yawning.
Kara's family knows about my family and myself. We told them when Kara was around ten for safety reasons, they took a while to come to terms with it, worried for their only daughters' safety around us, mum explained to them that Kara was safer knowing than not.
Kara didn't care, she thought it was great that she had a 'superhero' for a best friend. After all these years though, her parents still have a hard time remembering that I'm not like them.
"Breakfast?" Mr Martin asks, gesturing to the pantry turning around, his coffee in hand.
"Uh, no," I say awkwardly. "I don't eat, remember?"
Mr Martin almost spits his coffee everywhere as he begins apologising profusely, saying he forgot but it makes me laugh. I wave a dismissive hand at him and tell him it's okay, eventually, he calms down and begins preparing his lunch.
"I was wondering if you could let Kara know I went home when you wake her up?" I ask him, standing at the entrance to the kitchen.
"Of course, have a good day at school," he says, waving me goodbye.
I grab my bag from Karas' room, careful not to wake her, then super-sped my way back downstairs, grabbing my shoes. I slip them on and quietly head out the door, I breathe in the fresh early morning, it's still dark and the sun doesn't rise for another hour so I super-speed my way home.
When I get inside the house, it's not as quiet as normal. I run upstairs heading towards my room, but I find dad and Liam yelling at each other, again. I awkwardly walk past and open my door to find my room the same as I left it yesterday.
I drop my bag on my bed and walk into my wardrobe, going through my shirts I pull out a plain white long sleeve, going over to my jackets I find my long black, Gucci wool coat just incase today gets cold, I grab a pair of denim shorts with rose embroidery on the back pockets and get changed.
I grab my black LV sneakers and an LV silver locket necklace. After all of that, I hear Liams' door slam and dad yelling at him to open his door, I grab my school bag and make my way into the hallway where dad is banging on Liams' door.
Andy also exits his room, looking pissed off as well. "Can you two shut up!?" He shouts, "We still have neighbours, and some of us like a little peace and quiet at six in the morning."
Liam throws open his door and glares at Andy. "Shut up cock sucker, nobody asked for your opinion," Liam throws at Andy.
Andy glares at Liam for a second before Liam begins to choke on nothing. Andy continues to glare at Liam as he falls to the ground, telling him to stop, I stand there watching all of this unfold with a very unamused face, this happens every time a blood moon is close.
"You motherfuc-" Liam squeezes out, lifting his hand. Lightning leaves Liam's fingers and barely misses Andy as it hits the wall beside his door.
"Boys! Stop it!" Dad yells standing between them.
Liam stops choking and takes a deep breath in and Andy smiles slightly. "You're going to pay for that assho-"
"Hey!" I yell, catching everyone's attention, "just shut up okay? The blood moon is tomorrow and we don't need any of us drawing unwanted attention during these next few days." They all look at each other for a second, then nod slowly as Liam gets to his feet.
I nod slightly and make my way past them all, down into the kitchen. Shit, I didn't prep my drink the night before. I sigh to myself and grab a clean travel cup from the cupboard then go to the fridge and snatch a human blood bag, ripping off the tag.
Cravings for human blood gets bad when a blood moon is close, usually, I can control myself but after the morning I've just had I'm a bit more agitated than normal. Emptying the bag into my cup, I seel it and grab it's matching metal straw.
I look at the clock on the wall and realise Kara should be awake by now, I make my way out of the house and slowly walk to hers so we can walk to school together.
* * *
"Travel cup?" She questions as we walk in the school gates. "Is it human?" she whispers as I spot Mya, Derek, Damon and Jason all standing around the front of the school.
"Yeah, brothers and dad got into a fight this morning," I mumble, as Jason waves us over.
We walk over to them and greet everyone, I stay silent as I suck on my drink just as Nathan joins us, peachy. "Evangeline," Nathan says my name, getting my attention.
"Word is you and Derek had a major makeout session on the field after school," he smirks, my hand tightens around my travel cup.
Jason places his hand over mine, trying to calm me down. Kara looks at me and mouths the word 'breathe' which I try to do. "You and Derek, Liam won't like that," Nathan taunts.
Jason turns me away from Nathan and tells me to calm down as I hear Kara telling Nathan that wasn't nice of him. Jason's efforts to try and calm me down don't work as I feel my eyes flick between red and blue, Kara and Nathan are full-on yelling at each other now.
Derek speaks up, catching everyone's attention. "We aren't together dickward so how about you mind your own business and don't believe the rumours like an arrogant pric-"
"Derek!" I yell his name before he finishes his sentence, "just drop it."
Derek looks at me, as Jason holds onto my shoulders, he goes to say something but shuts his mouth and looks away. Kara tells Nathan to leave and he does thankfully, his pulse was so loud that one more beat of it and I might have killed him.
Everyone stands there awkwardly as Kara takes Jasons place but by this point, I've managed to calm myself down. "So, off-topic but..." Jason trails off.
"There is this party in the woods and I have connections to get us in," he smiles and everyone chuckles at this suggestion.
"I'm keen for a party, haven't been to one in a while," Mya says looking at Kara.
Kara nods at her and Jason, "I could use a good night of fun." Damon also nods, agreeing to the party.
Everyone looks at me and I look down, "I have plans tomorr-"
"Oh please," Kara interrupts, "after the week you've had, a Friday night party is just what you need."
I think about it but Jason looks at me with pleading puppy dog eyes and I can't resist, I nod my head and everyone cheers except Derek. We all look at him now waiting for his answer.
"Of course I'm coming," he chuckles, looking at me with a smile. For a guy trying to avoid me and wants me to forget about him, he sure is keen on getting my approval.
The bell rings and we all start to make our way to class but somebody grabs my hand and a spark is sent through my body. Derek spins me around to face him and smiles as I roll my eyes, "yes?"
"Uh." He looks down nervously, then back up at me. "I think I owe you an explanation and an apology," he says, letting go of my hand.
I look at him in annoyance and he quickly gets on with telling me what he wanted to say. "So, the reason for the sparks is because you're my soulmate, we are meant to be together, this was decided before either of us were born but I don't know if I want to have you as my soulmate."
"I can reject you but I don't exactly want to do that either-" Derek cups my face and makes me look up at him- "every time I look at you my heart yearns to be with you, be close with you, but, after what happened three years ago and then getting my ass beat by your brother I'm not sure anymore."
"Can you please give me time to work out this situation, finding your soulmate is a big deal for a werewolf, especially so young. It's an even bigger deal since I'm the next alpha, having your soulmate by your side when you take over is a huge honour..." he trails off, stroking my cheeks with his thumbs.
"Just let me work this out," he finishes, looking down.
"What about me Derek?" I take a few steps away from Derek, the anger rising within me. Derek looks at me as a sad look crosses his face then morphs into confusion. "Do I not get a chance to work it out?"
"If you say you want me then you expect me to just be there waiting? And if you say no it's okay?" I start rambling. "No, I'm my own person Derek. How do you think I feel in this situation? I just found out my childhood best friend is my soulmate but he's also despised by my entire family for something he didn't even do, it's a bit overwhelming," I finish, biting my lip to stop myself from crying now.
"Derek, I want you, but I don't know if you want me," I tell him, taking a step forward, grasping his hands in my own. "But your decision needs to come from here," I whisper, placing our hands over his heart.
Derek looks down at our hands then back at me, his eyes flicking between golden and brown. "Evangeline," he whispers my name, sending sparks down my spine, "I'll prove myself, because you're worth fighting for."
A small smile breaks out on his face than mine, he slowly leans in and places a soft kiss on my forehead, I close my eyes and let out a small breath. He leaves his lips there for a second longer than pulls me in for a tight hug, which I gladly welcome.
I breathe in his scent and smile, he hasn't changed the cologne he wears. He still smells like fresh pine and clean stream water, not too overbearing but perfect, exactly how I remember him on the last night we spent together. When we were on the couch and he was above me, tickling me because he loved the way I laughed when he did that.

Period four comes around and I take my seat at the art table with Mya, Jason and two other students I don't know. "Why weren't you or Derek in math this morning?" Jason asks, moving his chair closer to mine and Mya does the same.
"Were you two hooking up?" Mya asks, raising her eyebrows suggestively.
"No," I tell Mya off but she just smiles. "We were talking, we've decided we need some time before anything becomes official," I tell them and I swear both of them almost launch out of their seats.
"But, you're like, exclusive, right?" Mya asks, grabbing my arm.
"Of course they are," Jason exclaims, "she smells exactly like him, and when I saw Derek at break he smelled exactly like her. I could not miss the smell of rose water mixed with Beyoncés' Heat wild orchid perfume any day."
"It's disturbing you know exactly what I smell like Jason," I tell him, my eyes slightly wide.
"A werewolfs' sense of smell has always been better than a vampires'," he muses, Mya doesn't even react when he says that. She must know then. "Don't look so worried Evie, of course she knows," Jason chuckles and I smile at the nickname, usually I don't like nicknames but 'Evie' sounds nice, "she and I have been friends for years now."
That makes a lot more sense now. Of course Mya would know or else it would be really weird if Jason and Derek had to keep it a secret from her since they all hang out.

Blood Moon today. First party today. Derek today. Great. "Evangeline," dad calls my name, "remember, try to stay calm. No incidents today and you can go to the party."
I snap my head over to dad where he sits at the dining room table working, he glances up at me and smiles. "Kara's thoughts aren't very quiet, I can hear her from in here," dad tells me, chuckling to himself. Of course it was Kara.
One of dad's powers is mind-reading, my brothers and I learned to block him out of our heads because sometimes he would accidentally slip up and invade our thoughts. Others don't know this so usually dad can hear them whether they want him to or not.
His other one is similar to being able to predict the future, he can tell when bad events are going to happen. It can change based on peoples' decisions so usually, everything is okay, it was weird though because dad never saw the incident with the Lightwoods' coming.
"Dad, you don't need to worry about me, you should be worrying about Liam," I tell dad, Liam walks into the room, his bag on his back, he looks around the room and sighs.
"Dad already gave me that talk, don't worry," Liam defends himself, going into the fridge to grab a blood bag.
"Evangeline, just be good," dad says, waving me goodbye as I make my way outside.
Kara is standing by my gate and waves violently at me, I run over to her and hug her. Her black hair is hanging loosely in her face as she wears a small flower crown on her head, she is also wearing a long black maxi dress and a white short sleeve underneath.
"So, today's the day of the party," she squeals as we make our way to school.
"And the blood moon is today," I grumble, frowning slightly.
"But you get to see Derek," she said, giving an encouraging wiggly of her shoulders.
I roll my eyes at her but a small smile plays on my face. As we get closer to school Kara begins skipping, I raise my eyebrows at her questionably, she smiles widely at me and stops skipping. "I broke up with Nathan over the phone last night because..."
"He sucks?" I finish her sentence for her and she nods.
We enter the school gates and I notice our friends all standing around by a bench. The group notices our arrival as we walk over to them, Mya and Jason seem to be very excited about today. "Who is ready for tonight!?" Jason cheers, the girls squeal and I smile while Derek stands there with Damon, brooding to himself. "Evangeline, why aren't you excited?" Jason asks, turning to me.
"Just saving my energy for tonight," I say with a sarcastic hand wave. "Should we go to class?" I ask him since the bell is five minutes away, he nods. Mya and Jason fall into step beside each other, Derek walks beside me but says nothing.
I awkwardly keep glancing at him but he doesn't look at me, only ahead of him. I frown to myself, pouting slightly, playing with the ring on my finger. I feel eyes on me suddenly and look over at Derek to see him frowning at my hands, he looks up at me when he notices I'm staring.
"Sorry," he mumbles, "I just noticed you still play with your ring when you're anxious."
My mouth drops open slightly to an 'O' as we walk into the classroom, where almost the whole class is. I didn't think he would remember, I mean I told Derek that I do that whenever I'm anxious but I didn't expect him to remember at all.
"Uh, you remembered," I mumble as we all take our seats. I turn myself around to face him as he pulls out his pen and a single piece of paper.
"Do you think I'd forget these things about you in only three years, Evangeline?" He smiles, leaning forward slightly in his chair.
I shrug and smile at him just as Mr Black walks into the classroom. I turn back around, a silly smile still on my face as the lesson begins. Maybe being with Derek wouldn't be such a bad thing after all.
That afternoon Kara and Mya both came over to get ready at mine, Mya was more than impressed about every aspect of my house, she was gawking the entire time. "I knew your family was loaded but this is crazy!" Is the first thing she said in almost every room.
Mya had brought her own outfit along with her but I did offer to lend her some jewellery if she wanted, which she also flipped out about. Mya was wearing a black button-up, with high waisted blue jeans and some slip-on vans. I lent her my simple gold Dior chain which she loved.
Kara raided my wardrobe again pulling out some black jean shorts, a white mesh shirt and her favourite pink bralette underneath, her beat-up black Converse and she stole my only Gucci belt again.
I kept it a bit more simple and wore my favourite black jeans with a purple, high cut bodysuit and my new Dior black, mesh bomber jacket and my black LV sneakers.
Jason texts Mya and tells her to meet him, Damon, and Derek at the entrance to my gated neighbourhood, when we get there I instantly notice that Derek started looking me up and down, he didn't look too bad either. He just had a plain white shirt on, blue-washed jeans, but his jacket was obviously picked out by Jason, it was a multicoloured LV windbreaker.
"Ladies ready?" Jason asks and we nod.
We begin walking down the footpath, following Jason's lead. Jason and Damon walk with each other as well as Kara and Mya, Derek and I walk together in silence. The girls laugh up ahead as Jason begins to lead us down different streets, the neighbourhoods become darker as the sun has almost set.
"How was your day?" "Can I hold your hand?"
Derek and I speak at the same time then quickly look at each other, he looks away and clears his throat, biting his lip slightly. "Uh, my day was good," he mumbles, refusing to make eye contact with me.
I roll my eyes and smile. I look down at his hand that's by his side, I look forward to making sure we are still following Jason before I let my fingertips brush against Derek's, sparks softly bouncing off him. I feel him quickly look at me then down at our hands as I do it again, this time before I pull my hand away Derek grabs my hand and holds it in his.
Eventually, Jason leads us down an unmarked pathway into a forest, after a couple of minutes of walking we come to a clearing in the middle of nowhere. This clearing expands for a few miles in every direction surrounded by the thick forest, in the middle is a lake with a small dock and close by a bonfire is raging.
Jason leads us closer to where people are dancing around the fireplace to the music. "Jason!" A guy calls his name, walking towards us.
Him and Jason hug, then the guy comes over to Derek and hugs him. This guy must be in his twenties because he doesn't look our age, he has dirty blonde hair and almost glowing green eyes, he is also tan like Derek.
Derek smiles and drops my hand to hug the guy, I frown slightly but Derek quickly holds my hand again which makes butterflies flutter inside me. "Who's this?" The guy asks, pointing at me.
Jason, Mya, Kara, and Damon have already walked into the crowd to start dancing so I'm left with Derek and this stranger. "Michael, this is Evangeline," Derek introduces me, Michael smiles at me and grabs my free hand, placing a kiss on top of it.
I feel Derek's hand tighten around mine but loosens when Michael lets go of me, he tells us to enjoy the party and Derek thanks him, pulling us towards our friends. Someone's jealous.
After a couple of hours, Derek and Jason walk off together, telling me they have something to deal with. I end up dancing with the girls for a while until I feel a tap on my shoulder, turning around I find Michael standing there, his hand extended towards me.
"A dance?" He asks, and I nod.
He takes my hand in his and begins spinning me around as we dance with each other, a few songs go by and by the time the third song starts I feel a tingling sensation making its way through my body. "Evangeline," Derek's voices came from behind me.
I go to turn around to face him but Michael has already pushed me behind him and out of Derek's line of sight. "She's dancing with me, wait your turn," Michael tells him, turning to face me with a smile.
A hand lands on Michael's shoulder, Derek forcefully spins him around and stands closer to him, eyes glowing yellow. "She doesn't belong to you," Derek growls, fangs soon making an appearance as Derek glares Michael down.
Michael doesn't step down, instead, he is challenging Derek, growling at him. "Derek, stop," I sigh, moving between the two and shoving them apart but Derek doesn't stop glaring at Michael and his eyes are still bright yellow, also shifting red briefly.
Derek looks down at me, his expression softens as his fangs retract. He places his hands on my face delicately as he begins to calm down. "You're mine," he whispers, then shoots a glare at Michael.
I quickly back away from Derek and look at him in disbelief. "You don't own me," I start, anger slowly making its way to the surface, "last time I checked you still haven't decided and we are not official, I belong to no one!"
"Doesn't mean you can go off with someone else!" Derek explodes, his eyes going red for a second. The music has stopped by now and everyone is starting at the scene in front of them.
I go to yell at Derek again but Kara steps in front of me and covers my mouth. "Look," she whispers, holding up a mirror in front of my eyes.
I take a look at myself and realise that my eyes are glowing bright red, my fangs have grown slightly and I come to realise I'm feeling hungry, not good. "You brought a vampire!?" Michael yells, "on a blood moon!"
I turn around to sharply glare at him and he flinches slightly. "Just because I'm a vampire I'm the bad guy?" I scoff at his prejudice against my kind. Michael and I glare at each other for a few moments and I go to walk over to him.
Suddenly a hand is placed on my shoulder and I'm stopped, by the sparks I can tell it's Derek. "It's okay Evangeline, I'll fix this," Derek says, moving past me towards Michael who now looks afraid.
Kara turns me to face her and smiles, she guides me away from all of the staring people as Mya comes to my other side, Jason and Damon follow loosely behind. "You okay?" She asks as we start walking home, just as a scream is heard in the distance. Derek is fixing it I suppose.
"Yeah. I just hate how some people are still hung up on vampires being evil," I mutter, glancing down at my shoes.
"Well if it means anything," Mya pipes up, "I don't think that."
Kara nods at that and I smile, thanking them. "Fix those eyes though," Kara says, "They scare me." We all laugh at that comment and slowly make our way home. Not a bad blood moon I'd say.
