7. Usual Side of Snark
P.S. I realise that I made an error with Lori and Aris' last names, but I hope you can understand, that I forgot, and would rather just leave them as is, due to people recognising Aris' last name as Jones. Besides, I've already written it, and don't want to have to go through to change it all.
Plus, Aris' name, isn't really 'Aris', so who says that his last name is actually Jones? For all we know, it could be Whyte. Possibly. Maybe.
P.P.S Lily Collins now plays Clara, I'm telling you here, because I don't want to go through every chapter to change the casting, because Wattpad has made it casting per chapter (dumb).

The early morning sun burns down on Lori; the rays so hot, she can already feel the sweat beading along her forehead.
Lori sits up slowly, pulling the sheet up to cover her head, giving herself the smallest of shelters. Unfortunately, the heat keeps managing to seep through. She looked around, to see that she was the first awake. Standing up, Lori peers across the sleeping boys, hoping to identify which one could be Aris.
Alas, with no actual clue as to what he looks like, Lori was stuck.
"God, it's so damn hot out here," The strawberry blonde mumbles as she pulls the sheet up higher. Lori finds one of the water pouches and takes a few sips, but it would never be enough to quench her thirst.
After ten more minutes, the boys, and Clara, began to wake up, one by one. Everyone ate and packed away the food, ready to hit the road once more. As they begin to walk, Lori searches for Thomas, on hopes that he can lead her to her brother.
"Hey, Lori, how did you sleep?" Thomas asks as Lori falls into step with him.
She looks down, before answering the darker haired boy. "Uh, well, it definitely could've been better, I guess." After a moment of silence, Lori asked what she actually came over to talk about. "Sorry, Thomas, but I was just wandering if you could, you know, introduce me to Aris?"
"Of course. You keep walking, I'll go and get him, and you guys can meet. Well, reunite I guess."
Lori nods, throwing Thomas a smile, before the boy wanders.
Finally, she'll get to see her brother once more. Questions began to run through her mind; what does he look like?; Is he tall?; Do they look like each other?; And what about their father, who's their father? Hopefully he's nicer than their mother.
Less than two minutes later, Thomas returns to Lori's side, a taller boy in tow. The sun has almost reached it peak, so she is able to make out all the boy's features. He is tall, with olive skin, and dark black hair, which is slicked to his head with sweat.
The thing which hit Lori the most, is that, they look almost nothing alike. Almost. Something about his eyes reminded her of her own. Yet, her mother did not have their green eyes, which must mean they received the color from their father. Does their father resemble the boy standing before her?
"Aris?" Lori stumbles, barely able to say his name. The boy nods slowly, eyebrows creased as if confused.
Aris looked her up and down, taking in her appearance. "You must be Lori."
Since it didn't sound like a question, Lori stood silent, unsure of where to go with their short lived conversation. The few words they said probably wouldn't even be classified as a conversation anyway.
Thomas sighs, before stepping closer to us both, "Okay, let me make this simple. He's him, and she's her. Now, can you please walk and talk, so that we don't burn to a crisp, hey?"
Lori nods, before beginning to walk slowly.
Aris runs up to her side silently. They walk like this for half an hour, before Aris finally spoke.
"How did you, uh, how did you remember me?"
"Before I came into the Scorch," Lori begins. "I was kidnapped or something, and they" She freezes mid-sentence.
"Well, I don't really remember what they did. All I remember, is a woman. She said I have a brother. And she said that his name, is Aris. When I found the boys again, I asked if they knew you. And obviously, they did."
"This is so strange. It feels so weird, to just suddenly wake up, and find out I have a sister," Aris states, scratching the back of his head.
Lori shrugs, not sure whether she's agreeing with him or not.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable," He says fairly quietly.
"No, you didn't. It's just - I understand what you mean, I'm just not good at putting things into words; you know what I mean?"
"Yeah, I get you."
The two just walk in silence, not sure whether to continue or not. Lori wasn't sure about Aris, but she was fine with the silence. In fact, it was comforting, knowing that she had family after all.
They walked until nightfall crept up upon them again, shrouding the Scorch in darkness. They set up for bed, and slept for several hours, hoping it was all just a dream.

Lori woke up to wind and darkness. But the sky was not dark because the moon was in the sky. No, the sky was dark, because storm clouds had rolled in whilst they slept. Storm clouds? In the middle of the desert? What is this place?
Lori walks over to Minho and Thomas, who are talking on one side of the group.
"What else you wanna do? We're almost out of food and water?" Minho mutters.
Lori interrupts their conversation, "What? What do you mean we're almost out of food and water, Minho?"
"What do you think it means, princess?" Minho replies, clearly frustrated with Lori's question. It was a bad question. "We. Are nearly out. Of food. And water."
Lori nods along, raising her eyebrows, "And how did you sleep last night, sunshine?"
Before Minho can reply with his usual side of snark, Thomas steps between them. "Okay, time to break up this little love fest. Now, back to the food and water thing. If that's the case with the food, the I suggest we keep moving. We can eat on the way, we have granola bars and stuff."
They did as Thomas suggested, and began to walk once more. As they walked, Lori had noticed Newt sneak a few glances over at her. To be fair though, she only noticed this by sneaking peeks at him. They are finally close to one of the buildings, when they see an older man lying in the sand, wrapped in blankets.
The man's skin was so dark, with sores and scars marking his body.
Minho stands straight, putting up his usual demeanor. "Hey! Old man! What're you doing out here?" He has such a way with words.
"Minho! Seriously? Be a bit gentler!"Lori hisses.
Thomas got Minho to lean down beside the man, to check if he was even awake. He waved his hands in front of the man's face, but there seemed to be no reaction at all. The man blinked agonizingly slowly, but then, nothing.
"Sir?" Thomas stepped forward to try, considering he's more approachable than Minho.
"Mister? Can you hear me? Can you talk?"
Everyone stood quietly, but the man still didn't move, only blinked slowly once more.
Newt knelt beside Tommy, calling over the winds. "This guy's a bloody gold mine if we can get him to tell us stuff about the city. Looks harmless, probably knows what to expect when we go in there."
Lori runs a hand through her hair, "Yeah, but he doesn't actually seem like he's in the sharing mood, guys. I mean, he's barely responding to us now, how's he going to hold a conversation?"
"We keep trying," Minho nods. "Thomas, you're our official foreign ambassador. Get the dude to open up and tell us about the good ol' days."
Thomas just grunted a reply, before kneeling back down and facing the man. "Sir? We really need your help!" Thomas was shouting, but I guess that was the only way for them to hear each other. "We need you to tell us if it's safe to go inside the city! We can carry you there if you need help yoursel. Sir? Sir!
"My name is Thomas. These are my friends. We've been walking through the desert for a couple of days, and we need more water and food. What do you . . "
But Thomas froze. The man seemed panicked all of a sudden, as if one more word would set him off. The darkness of his eyes, brought something back to Lori. A memory. Where she had seen something so dark, until everything just, stopped.
Was that the hole they said I had fallen into?
"It's okay, we won't hurt you. We're . . . we're the good guys. But we'd really appreciate it if - " Thomas had spoken quickly, trying to get his point across. Unfortunately, he was not quick enough. The man's hand shot up, gripping Thomas' arm intensely.
"Hey! Let go of me!" Thomas shouted right in the man's face.
He looked as if he was trying to say something to Thomas, but no one could hear anything her was saying over the bellowing cries of the wind.
After many attempts, Thomas finally deciphered, that the man was warning them all, that there was a storm coming. And a dangerous one at that.

They began walking once more, closing in on the dark, dustiness, which was the city before them. They hadn't encountered any Grievers, massive stone walls, metal boxes, horrifying Mazes, ans they hadn't even spotted one Crank. Lori was hopeful that they would make it in one piece.
But then she remembered, that they were playing pieces, and winning a game is never easy. Especially when you don't know the rules.
And just to put that thought into perspective, the lightning began.
"Everybody run!" Lori screams, trying to kick everyone into panic mode, so no one was left a burnt crisp. Lori helped the few boys who had fallen in the first strike onto their feet, before running alongside everyone else.
The cracking noise the lightning brought with it, seemed to be multiplied by hundreds, as it struck the already scorched earth. They were hitting closer every time, giving Lori an unsettling feeling.
The hot white bars came at them ferociously, thunder growling for extra effect.
The lightning continues, yet there's no rain or clouds. What the hell sort of storm is this?
They run, yet it seems to no avail, since the blot are striking every inch. Lori could do nothing but run, she felt herself scream when a bolt came close, yet she couldn't hear herself at all.
Lori ran past a crater in the ground, where she saw a boy lying in the bottom, most likely dead. Looking around, she can see everyone still moving, whether it be up right, on scrambling back to their feet. All the boys and Clara, who was being helped up by Minho.
Lori began to fall behind, running out of breath. She felt as if they had been running forever. But something she saw made her run as fast as her feet would take her.
Minho's clothes were on fire.
She ran towards him and Thomas, helping to push him to the ground so that he could roll and out out the fire which engulfed the material covering his body.
The fire finally went out, and Thomas and Clara, who seemed to have appeared out of no where, were helping Minho to his feet. Minho put his arms around Clara and Thomas' shoulders, and they all ran as fast as they possibly could with the wounded boy between them.
Lori took that as her cue to continue also. She struggled as her lungs tightened, screaming at every muscle to stop and rest. But she couldn't, because if she did, she'd probably end up a pile of ash, and that doesn't sound too fun to be completely honest.
Just as they were closing in on the buildings, a bolt seemed to come out of no where, throwing Lori in a direction to which she was unsure.
As she hit the ground, her body finally gave in to the demands of her lungs and brain, and she passed out. But before she did, she caught a glimpse of something, which shouldn't have surprised it as much as it did.
She saw Newt running towards her, limp and all, a look of terror painted across his face.
