"What is wrong with you?!" Robert demanded, taking Gislaine and Y/n out of the building.
"Me?!" Gislaine asked in surprise. The jacket from earlier was now tied around his waist, earning him weird looks for the color from everyone.
"Yes, you. No, both of you! This whole Kumbaya, Up With People routine. Those people are in real pain."
"Of course they’re in pain! They’re separated forever! Married one day and the next they’re not."
"What kind of place is this?" Y/n added, swishing in front of Robert. "There's no love here!"
"I tried to tell you!" Robert shouted and ran a hand through his head, walking away from them and taking a few deep breaths.
She took Gislaine's shoulders, shaking him lightly. "We've got to get out of here!"
"I think I'd prefer that, too," Robert said, grabbing them both by the back of their shoulders and pulling them off in silence to the park, where he again walked away from them, rubbing his lips with the back of his hand. "I try to do the right thing."
Y/n and Gislaine exchanged a worried look before she tried to get closer. "But you've been ever so kind to us."
"Severely punished for it," he sneered. "Okay, look, Y/n? Gislaine? I can’t help you anymore. Okay?"
"What? But why?"
He took a few bills out of his wallet and handed them to her. "Here’s some money. I want you to take it. Call your prince-brother. Have him pick you up, bring his horse. Because I honestly - I just can’t handle it."
"Robert?"
"Just go..."
Gislaine stepped forward and took the money, putting it in his khaki's pocket. "I'm so sorry. You have been a very kind friend to us when we had none. And neither of us would want to make you unhappy or cause you any trouble. So..." He looked again at Y/n, who gave a firm nod.
"We'll go. But not before wishing you every happiness." She took his hand, kissed it, and left with her arm linked in Gislaine's. Robert nearly turned and left until he heard her voice again. "You have such lovely friends."
Looking back, he saw that they were now by an old lady at a bench, surrounded by birds.
"Would you like to feed the birds? Just four cents a bag." [According to Google, that's the USD equivalence to a tuppence.]
"Certainly." She paid her for two bags and handed one to Gislaine. "By and chance, have you seen a prince wearing red?"
"He was here."
"Really?"
"Oh, yes."
"Y/n," Robert called, immediately back by her side, getting between her and the woman. "What are you doing?"
"Robert! Oh, this is Clara." She took the old lady's hand, Robert pushing the princess' own away.
"Don't touch strangers."
"She said she's seen Edward!"
Clara nodded to confirm. "He was on the bus this morning. He tried to kill me!"
"Oh, how wonderful!"
"Yes. Wonderful," Robert agreed, pulling her away. "Thank you." Away from Clara, he pulled Gislaine closer by the collar. "What are you doing? You can't just let her give people money."
He wrinkled his brow, confused. "You gave us money."
"That's not the point."
Y/n popped up between them, Robert's hand falling away from Gislaine's neck. "And she was very helpful."
Giving in, he walked with them through the park, watching their hands swing together. "So. What's the deal? How long have you two known each other?"
"A day," Y/n replied, gazing up at Gislaine with such love.
"You mean it feels like a day because you're so in love."
Gislaine shook his head with a small chuckle. "No, it's been a day."
He stopped short then, taking in the two still giving each other lovestruck gazes. "You’re kidding me. A day? One day?"
"And tomorrow will make two days!" Y/n exclaimed. She jumped forward into Gislaine, giving him a kiss on the cheek. "And then eternity..."
"You're joking."
Their gaze left each other for Robert, although their arms remained around each other. "We're not," Gislaine tried to assure him.
"You’re gonna marry somebody after a day because you fell in love with him?" he demanded of the princess.
"Yes." Seeing her prince in front of her caused her to smile, her face flushing at the sight. "Yes!" she cried, then ran off, both men staggering behind her.
After buying a hotdog, they went on, Robert still trying to get rational answers from irrational creatures. "I don’t get it. How can you talk about loving someone you don’t even know?"
"Well, we know what's in each other's hearts," Gislaine tried to explain, then took the last bite of the hotdog. "The is so yummy. I didn't know food could taste like this."
On cue, Y/n took away the wrapper and threw it away. "What about you, Robert? How long have you known Nancy?"
He thought for a moment, answering with, "Five years."
"Five years?! Oh, Robert, I'd be unhappy, too," Y/n said, then proceeded to nearly bump into a man with a cart and an accent.
"Hello, nice lady. You want juicy, sweet caramel apple, maybe? No charge for the beautiful young woman." She did not notice the caramel shaped as a skull.
Innocently, she smiled on him while Robert already had his arms crossed, but was ready to put them up in front of this guy. "Oh, really? It's free?"
"Of course! Today is free caramel apple day. Tomorrow is free beef…jerky..." He looked rather uncomfortable for a moment, but nobody seemed to notice.
Instead, Y/n nodded, taking the apple. "Thank you."
"You're welcome, miss..." Without them knowing, he watched them from the stall briefly after shoving Pip into the popcorn maker.
"Most normal people get to know each other before they get married," Robert insisted, stopping Y/n from taking a bite of the apple. "They date."
"Date?"
"Yeah. You know, date. You go someplace special. You know, like a restaurant, or a movie, a museum. Or you just hang out and you talk."
Her head tilted. "What about?"
"About each other. About yourself. About your interests. Your likes, your dislikes. You talk."
She shook her head, gazing down at the apple. "You have such strange ideas about love."
"Maybe we should do what you and Gislaine would do: you meet, have lunch, and get married."
Gislaine grabbed his shoulder, his grin brighter than his hair. "Oh! You forgot about happily ever after!"
"Forget happily ever after. It doesn’t exist."
"WHAT?!" Y/n screamed, throwing her hands up. The apple went in the throw, flying away from her. "You're lying! Of course it does!"
"Y/n, I hate to disagree, but marriages are a success if they manage not to end. Forget about happiness."
"Well, I have to disagree with you," Gislaine started. "Because I know with all my heart that my Y/n and I will live happily ever after. Those people..." He took her hand and squeezed it, a pang of fear in his heart. Just how common was divorce? "They...they just need to overcome their hardships!"
Deadpanned, he blinked. "And put me out of a job?"
"Well, what about you and Nancy? You know that you will live happily ever after."
Robert shook his head and made Gislaine face him. "I don’t know if I’ll make it through today, let alone a lifetime. That’s what I’m trying to tell you. It’s complicated."
"Robert," Y/n began as seriously as either of them had seen her. Not that Gislaine would mention it, but he thought it was kind of hot. "She thinks that we kissed. Do you know why? Because she doesn't really know."
"Know what?"
"How much you really love her."
"Of course she does," he argued. "We just don’t talk about it every minute of the day, but she knows."
"But she doesn't. Or she'd trust you. Oh, Robert..."
Y/n:
How does she know you love her?
"People are looking," Robert whispered.
Y/n:
How does she know she's yours?
"Don’t sing. It’s Omar. Let’s just walk. Can we walk? Okay?" He took their shoulders and walked them away from the people in the park.
"Well, does she?"
"Yeah."
A street band began to play their drums and the leader sung along.
Street Performer:
How does she know that you love her?
Y/n odded, looking back at Gislaine to invite him to join them. Robert stared at them, mouth opening. "He knows the song, too?"
Y/n, Street Performer:
How do you show her you love her?
Y/n, Street Performer, Gislaine:
How does she know that you really, really truly love her?
"I’ve never heard this song."
Y/n, Street Performer, Gislaine:
How does she know that you love her?
How do you show her you love her?
"Really nice work." He tipped the guitar case, pulling at Gislaine, his arm on Y/n, but both still singing along.
Y/n, Street Performer, Gislaine:
How does she know that you really, really truly love her?
"That's it. Okay. Let's go."
-
It seemed like Robert got teleported with the two, the band following them as Y/n sang out to the whole park, twirling around.
Y/n:
It's not enough to take the one you love for granted
You must remind her or she'll be inclined to say
-
She ran up the hill, Gislaine a good distance behind her, running after her with a huge grin. The band continued to sing backup, nowhere in sight now.
Y/n:
How do I know he loves me?
Street Performer:
[How does she know that you love her?]
[How do you show her you love her?
Y/n:
How to I know he's mine?
Street Performer:
[How does she know that you really, really truly love her?]
-
Now on a bench, Y/n took the paper pads away from the old men and wrote on it.
Y/n:
Well, does he leave a little note to tell you you are on his mind?
You Are Adorable!
The old woman gasped with delight as Y/n leaped over to them and Gislaine guy in front of the men, pulling a yellow flower out of his pocket that magically appeared while the men did the same with their jacket pockets.
Y/n:
Send you yellow flowers when the sky is grey?
Hey ~
She motioned for them to stand as the men strutted and held the flowers out them, Gislaine doing it after, but instead putting it behind Y/n's ear.
Y/n:
He'll find a new way to show you
A little bit everyday
The women spun around and accepted the flowers with big smiles, looking into their respected man's eyes with what could only be described as fairytale love before they began to dance.
Y/n:
That's how you know
That's how you know
He's your love
She and Gislaine ended up in front of them, their hands together. Robert watched them with his arms crossed, trying to lead them away.
"See?"
"Oh, I've seen quite enough. Let's go."
But Y/n gasped, pulling away from him to see a poster for the King and Queen's Ball. "A ball?"
"We should go!" Gislaine said immediately, taking her hands, both jumping like nursery school children.
"Guys, what the hell."
-
What the hell, indeed, when the mariachi band joined in with the street performers. In a rowboat, Y/n sat next to Gislaine with a parasol in hand, his arm around her. Across from them, Robert rowed the boat.
Street Performer:
You got to show her you need her
Don't treat her like a mind reader
Each day, do something to lead her
To believe that you love her
-
Y/n ran down the middle of a group wedding, the brides and grooms suddenly joining in the dancing.
Y/n:
Everybody wants to live happily ever after
Everybody wants to know their true love is true
They trapped her and Gislaine in the middle, their bouquets all around them. Gislaine took one and gave it to Y/n while they broke away and spun in their new husband's arms, Robert trying to hide behind a tree.
Y/n:
How do you know he loves you?
Everyone:
[How does she know that you love her?]
[How do you show her you love her?
The crowd threw up the birdseed at Y/n and Gislaine, who were in the carriage with Robert as their chauffer, wondering how he ended up from behind a tree to the driver's seat of a carriage.
Y/n:
How to you know he's yours?
Everyone:
[How does she know that you really, really truly love her?]
She dragged the lawyer from behind the tree and pulled him along, Gislaine skipping behind them.
-
Y/n:
Well, does he take you out dancing just so he can hold you close?
She ran around with the others in a circle, wreaths over their heads.
"I don't dance," Robert insisted, holding a giant wreath over her with Gislaine.
Y/n:
Dedicate a song with words meant just for you?
Ooh ~
"And I really don't sing..."
She frolicked through the aisle, arms spread wide.
Y/n:
He'll find his own way to tell you
With the little things he'll do
-
Y/n stayed in a prop tower with a little girl dressed as Cinderella in a blue dress, while she was in a purple one like Rapunzel. Below them, Gislaine stood in a Eugene outfit, reaching it to her.
Y/n, Cinderella Girl:
That's how you know
That's how you know
She let herself free-fall, right into Gislaine's arms, who had them already opened for her to fall into.
Y/n:
He's your love
-
"He's your love..." Edward heard from a distance. His eyes widened as he turned, recognizing the voice.
"Y/n!" he cried and jumped off the bridge. "Fear not, Y/n! I will rescue y -" He was cut off by his own exclamations when a bicyclist ran him over.
-
Y/n:
Ah ah ah ah ah
Ah ah ah ah ah
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah
A swarm of pigeons flew and took the heart-shaped wreath she had made of flowers. "Take these to Nancy, please."
"What are you, crazy?" Robert asked, but sighed, knowing that nothing he said would get through to her. "They're birds. They don't know where she lives."
But they took the flowers and flew off, a smile curving the corner of Y/n's lips knowingly.
-
By this point, everyone was partying and dancing in the square like a while celebration was taking place, some guys even doing flips.
Y/n:
That's how you know he loves you!
That's how you know it's true!
Because he'll wear your favorite color just so he can match your eyes
A bunch of men in f/c work uniforms did cartwheels by her and surrounded her. Gislaine, noticing, put hands into a bucket of f/c paint that was conveniently there by Disney magic and smeared it on his shirt, pushing past the men to face Y/n, who giggled.
"Oh, come on!" Robert groaned, his hand over his face.
-
Y/n:
Plan a private picnic by the fire's glow
Oh ~
She and Gislaine sat on a blanket. Behind them, Robert held an unlit candle.
-
A whole-ass marching band played behind Y/n, skipping across the bridge and around the plaza, with the parade behind her.
Y/n, Parade:
His heart will be yours forever
Something everyday will show
Y/n:
That's how you know
Gislaine, Parade:
[That's how you know]
Y/n:
That's how you know
Gislaine, Parade:
[That's how you know]
Y/n:
That's how you know
Gislaine, Parade:
[That's how you know]
Y/n:
That's how you know!
Gislaine, Parade:
[That's how you know]
Robert found himself nodding along to the song, quickly stopping.
Y/n:
That's how you know
Gislaine, Parade:
[That's how you know]
Y/n, Parade:
That's how you know
They picked her up, lifting her on their shoulders.
Y/n:
He's your love
That's how you know...
They lowered her gently to the ground.
Y/n:
That's how you know...
Street Performer:
[You got to show her you need her]
[Don't treat her like a mind reader]
The grooms began to spin their brides around in synch. Gislaine pushed through them to Y/n, who ran towards him, his arms out.
Y/n:
That's how you know...
All:
[That's how she knows that you love her]
She jumped into his arms, Gislaine spinning her around bridal-style.
Y/n:
He's your love!
All:
[It's not enough to take the one you love for granted!]
He held her up, the grooms doing the same with their brides. Everyone in the parade began to clap ass she was put down, looking at them with a bright smile. "Thank you. Thank you so much. Oh, thank you."
Robert picked up his suddenly-ringing cellphone on the middle of the applause. "Nancy?"
"Thank you so much for the flowers."
"Well, you're welcome." He eyed Y/n, who was still in the middle of the crowd. But Gislaine noticed him and gave him a wink. "No, I'm glad you liked them."
"Catch you at a bad time?"
"Yeah...you wouldn't believe where I am right now."
-
Edward stood up from being run over, grimacing at the pain in his backside. Nathaniel went rushing over to him. "Your Highness! Oh dear, oh dear. You've fallen on your royal -"
"I know, I know!" he cut him off, embarrassed and frustrated that he had lost track of Y/n. Still in pain, he hopped off, holding onto where it hurt.
Next to Nathaniel, he heard a cry of severe pain and saw that it was a man, the hair on his head gone in a spot and the helmet he had worn earlier with a huge hole in it. It had been the work of the poisoned apple.
