SO MAYBE JO SHERIDAN GOT ROYALLY SCREWED during fourth year when her dear old dad kicked the bucket and her estranged grandmother decided to visit for the first time ever to drop the bomb about Jo's secret noble heritage (and her newfound status as the sole heir to the throne of a teeny, tiny country called Jenovia) but — all things considered — Jo thinks she's handled the whole thing with enough class that it would make Princess Diana proud. A gap year from school spent learning all the dos and dont's of being a princess from her queen grandmère has Jo itching to get back to Hogwarts (thank god she missed the giant killer snake fiasco) where nobody knows a thing about her royal roots and she can be just Jo — teenage witch and quidditch fiend — instead of Josette Cerise Valentina Sheridan Fauchelevant, Princess of Jenovia.

... Except then her royal little secret winds up plastered all over the front page of The Daily Prophet thanks to that total shrew Rita Skeeter and suddenly everyone at school knows all about Jo's status as teenage royalty. Now her fellow classmates call her princess in the hallways and people who never even blinked in her direction want to be her new best friend — as if!

Jo knows that her life will never be the same — that she can never be just Jo ever again — but it's reassuring to find that some things never change. Like the fact that the Gryffindor house colors are still atrocious no matter how you wear them. Or that she can still beat a bludger like no one's business. Or that she still sort of wants to kiss/kill her best friend's quidditch-playing brother ... but that's beside the point.

Being a teenager is hard enough. Being a teenage witch is even harder — especially with the threat of magical war on the horizon. But balancing an entire kingdom on top of all that?

Princess Josette. May she reign in fucking peace.
