CHAPTER TWO

Gennie was sitting on the couch watching a movie when Brandon brought her the dinner that he made. It was a fresh potato with some Greek salad. She thanked him and he smiled as he held his own plate. She was watching the television with all of the lights in the room off. It was some type of Live Comedy that she was watching. Even she didn’t know for sure.

She was sitting against the arm of the couch, her legs folded at her other side to give her aching feet a rest.

“How is the show.” Brandon asked.

Gennie giggled at a previous joke that was mentioned earlier in the show.

“Yes. Quite so.” Gennie answered.

“How are your feet feeling?” Brandon asked as he took a bite of salad.

“Sore. They still hurt.” Gennie answered.

Brandon looked at her for a couple of seconds before he then placed his plate of food on the floor beside the couch. Gennie, startled, raised her eyebrows.

“Give me your feet.” Brandon told her.

“Why?” Gennie asked wearily.

“I’m going to try to rub them. I know that it might not help, but I have to at least try, sweetheart.” Brandon said.

Though Gennie thought that the idea was weird, she moved so that she was sitting against the arm of the chair, her legs spread until they rested on his lap. Anything would help her feet now. There wasn’t anything else that would make it worse at least.

Gennie turned her head to watch the television program and eat as Brandon gently began to rub her feet. All day they were unpacking things from the moving van. Of course Gennie was told to do only the easy things, which she did, but her feet hurt by a couple of hours into the job. It was eight thirty right now and both of them were trying to relax. As Brandon helped to bring in the heavy things such as beds, dressers, couches, and other things, Gennie unpacked all of the cutlery and other dishes into the cupboards and drawers. She also unpacked other things, but Brandon made sure that she was taking things easy.

She moaned in delight when he gently pressed his fingers to the right spot on her feet. Brandon looked up at her and smiled.

“Am I actually doing a good job?” Brandon asked surprised.

“Yes, you are.” Gennie answered with a smile on her face.

Brandon grinned back and Gennie asked, “What about your food? It’ll get cold!”

“Nonsense! It can wait, dear.” Brandon told her.

Gennie smiled and she then asked as she swallowed a piece of potato, “did you see the group of people around the house today?”

“Indeed.” Brandon said, “but I didn’t see our parents though.”

“Neither did I, but I guess that is a good thing. I didn’t want to have to face them the explanation today. Not only that, I was not ready to speak to my mother yet. I might not be for a while, but in a small town like this it is bound to happen sooner or later.” Gennie answered.

Brandon nodded.

“We don’t have to talk to her. I mean, we will eventually, but you can decide that. She was terrible to you, sweetheart.” Brandon told her.

Gennie nodded before taking more fork fulls of potato. When she swallowed, she asked Brandon to start on the other foot. When he did, she thanked him and he just smiled at her.

“Do you know what has been bothering me all day, though?” Gennie asked him.

“What?” Brandon asked her.

“Henry. Henry’s book. I want to know where he got it and if he actually knows who we are.” Gennie told him.

Brandon just kept looking at her feet as he rubbed them. She sighed and said, “Emma. If Emma knows then she can help us. We need her.”

“I know that we do. The only reason that we came here was because we knew that Emma was here.” Brandon answered.

“Maybe we could talk to them in a couple of days, if they don’t come in here already. I have a feeling that everyone in the town will be coming over to welcome us to the neighbourhood.” Gennie said.

Brandon looked up at her and let go of her feet before he leaned over and kissed her stomach. Gennie smiled and used one hand to stroke his dirty blonde hair. Brandon then set his chin on her stomach gently and looked up at her.

“I’m more worried about our daughter.” Brandon said, “I know that I am being paranoid, but what if it actually happens? What if you mother takes Odette?”

“She won’t. While Odette is inside me my mother won’t take her and I know that you will do anything dead or alive to protect her and you know that I would do the same.”

“It doesn’t mean that I’m not worried. I can’t tell the future anymore while we are in this town, or at least it is harder. Maybe tonight I will get a dream.”

“If you do then it will show you how much of a fool that you are for fearing that someone will take her.”

Brandon smiled and he kissed my stomach and then whispered, “Mommy and daddy will always be there to protect you sweetheart. We both love you dearly already.”

Gennie smiled and began stroking his hair again. Brandon looked up and her and he sighed, “you’re right, I know, but any normal father would worry about his daughter and wife’s safety.”

Brandon then leaned up and carefully kissed Gennie in a way that he wouldn’t make her drop the plate of food that she hadn’t eaten yet. Gennie kissed him back and after the kiss he kissed her nose.

“How did I ever get so lucky that you found me.” She whispered.

“I don’t know. Fate I guess. I owe it a lot then.” Brandon grinned.

Gennie shook her head and Brandon chuckled.

“I always knew that our parents would never keep us apart. Now I know for sure. They can’t affect us now because we are stronger than they are here. We are the most powerful in this land.” Brandon said.

“But my mother will still try. I know her to well, but she will never harm Odette. She never will.” Gennie told him.

Brandon smiled and kissed her again before he told her, “I love you, Rapunzel.”

“I love you to, Baelfire. I always will, no matter where magic or fate take us.” Gennie told him.
