Chapter 21
"Fuutarou... I need help with this problem." Miku waved their tutor over.
"What's wrong?" he scanned her paper nodding when he saw the question. "You see you use this equation to solve for this part. Then you can apply it over to this to get your answer."
"Wait, this is math homework?" she said confused as Fuutarou just sighed.
He thought back to his day. Itsuki had told him to meet her at the park tonight, but he was going to visit home since he wouldn't need to come back to school tomorrow.
"Eh?" she pouted, "You wasted a really dramatic, suspenseful, perfect moment!"
"What are you talking about?"
"Did you not see me perfectly open the door and turn to face you? What will the people think?"
"We're the only ones out here!"
"As smart as you might be, you're still an idiot."
Screw that Itsuki. If you're not gonna tell me who those "people" are, then why point them out in the first place? He snuck a look at the youngest quintuplet. Now that he thought about it, he was spending a little too much time with her. They were classmates, but it wasn't very fair to the others, as even Fuutarou wanted to hang out with them.
He thought about this after their tutoring session as he boarded the train to the district where his family lived. While traveling he took out his phone.
"Which one haven't I had the chance to hang out with for a while?" he muttered.
He selected a contact and began typing.
Yo, do you want to hang out the day after tomorrow?
He closed his phone, not expecting a text anytime soon. Only to feel the buzz of his phone on his lap.
Ara? Fuutarou-kun texting me? What did you need big sis Ichika for? Girl advice?
These five were all the same after all.
Do you want to go or not? I'm sure Nino or Miku would want to go.
He waited a few moments smiling. No matter which quintuplet it was, they all acted the same when another sister is mentioned.
I never said I didn't! What time?
He had caught her.
Whenever your free. Any where specific you want to go?
Crossing his fingers he hoped it wouldn't be anywhere expensive.
Hey... I know you're thinking about your money right now... So I'm going to have you take me, wherever you want!
He exhaled, as the train stopped.
Sounds good, got to go, walking right now.
He sent the text and began walking. Now that he thought about it, it had been a while since it was just him and Ichika. Actually, was there even a time when he and Ichika were alone?
The eldest quintuplet knew. She had worked hard to win over her Fuutarou-kun. All of it to go down the drain when he lost his memory. The fireworks festival, the school camping trip, the acting at the bakery shop, hell even all the way back in Kyoto.
She sighed, she wasn't giving up. But she also didn't want to continue. She laid down on her bed.
"Tomorrow is a normal day, no flirting, we're just going to try to jog his memory."
The next day arrived and Fuutarou was waiting outside their apartment complex. "Fuutarou-kun!" Ichika called from behind him, "What are you thinking about?"
"I'm plotting how to take over the world." he plotted sarcastically.
"Ha ha very funny. Unless you're being serious?" she eyed him suspiciously.
He laughed, "You actually need money to do that."
She shook her head, "You really haven't changed..."
"Huh? Did you say something?"
"No- Just making a mental note to myself."
"Hey Ichika, I've been meaning to ask something." he walked a little slower.
"What's up?"
"Well, this is kind of embarrassing to ask, but did something happen in the accident? I know you five were the ones who took me to the hospital and I'm eternally grateful for that, but I think something happened, did I lose something?" he sat there in thought.
"Fuutarou-kun," she started. She couldn't tell him, it wouldn't be right. It would make things awkward. She was alright with how things were right now. "What kind of question is that?"
"Well I mean- I thought your father would have mentioned something. If I lost some memory. I remember I treated you guys rudely by saying something like 'I don't know who these people are.'" he quoted.
"Yeah that was pretty rude to the people who saved your life. Why do you think you lost your memory."
"Well I know this sounds kind of stupid," he took a deep breath, "but I think I've met you all somewhere."
She paused. "Eh?"
"I know, it sounds really dumb. But I promise you, I've met you all somewhere." he rubbed his temple.
"Maybe you ran into us at a store or something."
"No... it was something more specific. I promise you it all came back in a dream, it was too specific to not be real."
"Fuutarou-kun?"
"Yeah?"
"You were dreaming about us?" she burst out laughing.
"Last time I checked you can't control your dreams."
"Should I label you as a pervert? Was it perverted?"
"No! We were all in high school, and you guys were being absolute tsunderes to me. I had to tutor you five and you wouldn't let me. Then I finally gained your trust and we started becoming friends."
"This is one specific dream." Ichika teased, knowing full well that he was telling the truth.
"Right? It feels so weird that it almost seemed like a part of my memory returning. Actually, I don't remember a thing about junior or senior year in high school, only freshmen."
"You know, that's kind of funny because in junior and senior year we were at your school, and according to some logic you lost only that part of your memories. Except for of course Takeda and Maeda." Is what she wanted to say.
Instead all she could come up with, "Well high school is a traumatic experience."
They walked around the rest of the day, doing some window shopping and other things. As soon as Fuutarou said he had to go to work, Ichika dashed home. Opening the door to Nino, Miku, and Itsuki sitting watching TV.
"We have a problem!" she yelled.
The oldest sister explained everything to them. They sat there in shock.
"I'm starting to think our lives are scripted." Miku said sadly.
"You did the right thing Ichika, if you told him, well it would be really awkward." Itsuki nodded her head slowly.
"What if he doesn't like us anymore? I mean if his memories were erased but came back, what if he finds it awkward that he liked us but doesn't like us anymore?!" Nino said in panic.
"We need to let him remember us on his own." Ichika said.
"I think I know how to, without him knowing it was me." she grinned.
Yotsuba walked in, "What's going on?"
Her sisters sweat dropped, "Come on idiot, we'll explain it to you."
