You really hoped your family accepted L. Since L never had a family, you wanted to have your family accept him and welcome him to the family as a soon to be son-in-law. You were confident they would, but L wasn't so sure. You both walked through the snow to your parents house. You couldn't park in the driveway because of all the snow. You were going to spend Christmas with your family like you always did.

L, being shy today, had his scarf wrapped up so you could barely see him, you kept pulling it down but he kept pulling it up. You finally reached the front door and knocked it, only to hear barking straight away, the dog obviously heard your knocking.

"Oh shut up lucky!"

You laughed at your brothers response to the dog.

The door opened and as it did, L took a step back and behind you.

"(Y/n)!"

"Mum!"

You gave each other a hug until you felt the dog start to jump at you.

"Hey lucky!" You bent down and picked up the small dog, giving it a snuggle.

"Come in, its cold" your mum said.

Since you were holding the dog, L picked up both of your bags and bought them inside. You closed the door and instantly felt the warmth in the room. You put lucky down and turned to L, who had put your bags down.

"I told you, hiding your face in your scarf won't do anything" you said, pulling his scarf away.

He didn't say anything, just nodded.

"Mum, this is Ryuzaki" you said.

"Oh, he's so cute!" Your mum cooed "welcome to the family darling"

Before L could react, he was pulled into a hug by your mum.

"I told you she'd like you" you sassed at L.

"It's nice to finally meet you mrs. (l/n)" L said.

"Please, just call me (m/n)"

Your mum broke the hug and L nodded.

"Well come on, your father and brother are upstairs, watching football, they'll be down for lunch"

You all wandered into the dining and kitchen area where you saw cake on the bench and something in the oven. L's eyes lit up at the sight of the cake.

"Ooo... chocolate and vanilla marble cake?" You asked.

"As always" your mother replied.

"Ryu, will definitely like that"

"You seem to have quite the sweet tooth then?" Your mum said. 

"Yeah, I love candy" L replied.

You'd never seen him so shy, it was kind of cute.

"I've also been told you're incredibly smart"

"Y-yeah, I was top of my class during school and university"

"What did you study?"

"Law and justice"

"So you're a detective?" Your mum asked.

"Yes" L replied.

"Fighting for top detective against L like everyone else is?"

You and L exchanged a look as if to say 'if only she knew'.

"More or less"

"Well, you could say he's already pretty high up on the ranking" you said.

"You are? What do you investigate?"

"Murder, kidnappings, theft and assault" L said.

"Geez, you must be good"

If only she knew...

You took your jacket off and made L take his off to hang on the coat racks. Once you did, you came backs and sat on the counter.

"You still like to sit on the counter?" Your mum said.

"Yep"

"She does that all the time" L added.

"Well I guess old habits are hard to shake"

"Mum, let me inform you about some things ryu can't help" you said.

You saw L's cheeks go a little red and your mum turn to listen.

"He can't sit normally, please excuse that, you could say it's a posture thing, he like to curl up. Also the amount of detective work makes him analyse a lot of things for no reason and he always picks things up by the corner to keep fingerprints off" you explained.

"That's fine, we all have our quirks" your mum said.

L let out a small sigh of relief.

"And mum, I really hope you, dad and (b/n) accept him into the family. It'd mean a lot" you said.

"Y-yeah.. I never really had a family, I grew up at an orphanage my whole life before becoming a detective" L added.

"Oh, of course we accept you, you're always welcome here" your mum said.

"T-thank you" L said.

You nudged L, he had to tell them sooner or later.

"Over lunch" he whispered to you.

You helped set the table and your dad and brother finally came down from watching footy.

"(Y/n), good to see ya" your brother said.

"You too buttface"

"Playing the nickname game are we shit head?"

"You bet dunderhead"

(B/n) gave you a playful shove and turned to L, scanning him down.

"Wow you're shorter than I thought, nice to meet you I'm (b/n)" he said.

"You too, I'm ryuzaki" L replied.

Your bother shook hands with L and went to go bug your mum about food. Then it was time to greet your father.

"Hey dad!" You said.

"It's good to see you (y/n)" he relied, pulling you into a hug.

"Dad, this is ryuzaki"

"I see, he's smaller than I thought, well it's nice to meet you ryuzaki"

"You too mr. (l/n)"

After everyone was sat at the table and eating, the conversation broke out, and L tried as best as he could to stay out of it.

"The real question is, why don't you have a girlfriend yet?" You fired back at your brother.

"Shut up butt brain" he replied.

"Ryuzaki, where are you from?" Your dad asked.

"I grew up in an orphanage in England. But if your talking about ethnicity, I'm part English, Japanese, French and something I don't know" L said.

"So (y/n), how did you and ryuzaki meet?" (M/n) asked.

"That would be a funny story. So there's this cafe near my place, I always go there because it's so close and ryu was always there, stuffing his face with cake and sweets as usual. And one day I was short of change and ryu was kind enough to give me a couple extra dollars for my cake, after that we kept running into each other at that cafe and eventually we started talking and here we are today" you said.

"Aww that's sweet" your mum replied.

"But there's one part of the story I think ryu should explain"

It was all eyes on L, he was going to come clean.

"W-well, I never let her come over to my place because of my job you see... but one day it was raining and my place was the closest to where we were so we just went there... I kept it so secret because my house is like a mini taskforce headquarters for all my investigations, and if anyone saw they might figure out... uh... my real name"

It was silent for a moment.

"Ryuzaki is just an alias I use to protect my identity. When (y/n) saw all the computers and files scattered on the floor from the case I was working on she became curious and that's how she found out I was a detective. But she found out who I was because of my computer I had left on. It simply read one letter... L"

It was silent as everyone let that sink in.

"Wait... so you're saying, you're L?" Your brother questioned.

"Y-yeah"

"It's true, this guy is the world greatest detective, I ever guessed I'd meet THE L" you said.

It was silent again. You could see L slowly sinking in his chair, expecting the worst.

"Wow, (y/n) how'd you manage to score him?" (B/n) said.

"No idea"

"You picked a good one (y/n)" your dad said.

"I love this guy even more!" Your mum stated.

"See? I told you it'd be ok!" You said to L, putting an arm around him.

He smiled at you, making you smile back.

"I don't mean to sound bossy, but this has to remain top secret. To anyone else I'm just ryuzaki a normal detective" L said.

"Of course" (m/n) replied.

"So, you going to tell them your real name?" You said.

"I may as well. Its Lawliet"

"Such a rare name" your dad said.

"Yeah, I'm not really sure where it comes from" L replied.

After a nice lunch and lots of cake, you all made your way upstairs to the living room where you all sat and talked for a while, you noticed L getting a little fidgety and kind of distressed. Making you wonder what was wrong.

"Hold on mum-"

You got up and walked over to L.

"What's wrong?" You asked.

"I guess I'm just nervous..." L said.

"About what? My family already like you there's nothing to be worried about"

"No... its just... (y/n), you've been a part of my life for years now. When you walked into my life it was like the boring black and white world was turned to a colourful wonderland-"

Your family had stopped talking to see what was going on. And it seems your parents knew what was coming.

"You mean the world to me, no matter how badly my presence puts you in danger of whatever case I'm working on, you solider on as if nothing is wrong. You were the first person to actually look out for me and basically gave me a reason to live... I love you with every part of my being and I just have to know..."

You saw him slip a hand into his pocket and pull out a small box, instantly knowing what it was you threw your hand over your mouth in shock as he dropped to one knee.

"Will you marry me?"

It was dead silent as everyone waited for an answer.

"YES!"

He quickly slipped the ring on and you dove into a hug, not letting go even when your family decided to join the hug.

"Thank god..." L said.

"You dope, I would have said yes I matter what!" You said.

"Congratulations!"

"My little girl is getting married!"

It went silent for a moment as you just held L in your arms. The silence was broken, and the words make the tears break too.

"I'm finally going to have a family..."
