A Strange Place (Part 2, Candy, Alex, And Others Introduction)

"Inky sweetheart! Come here love!" A young women called out softly as she jogged down a hallway in her white lab coat, black shirt, black pants, and shoes. Her crimson curly locks bouncing behind as she came to a stop in front of a paint splattered door.

"Candy?" A small voice asked as the door cracked open.

Candy gently opened the door more and scooped up the six year old in her arms.

Ink squeaked and hid inside his tan scarf. A present he had gotten from Candy on his forth birthday.

"Inky we have a lot to do this fine morning!" She paused to bounce Ink a little, making him squeal happily, "Are you ready to play with Reboot, Template, Blue, Halluciv, and all your other skeletal friends?" She asks excitedly.

Ink nodded with a giggle.

Candy smiles widely at Ink as she proceeds to walk out of his bedroom, closing the door with a soft click since some little monsters were still sleeping in their rooms. Walking down the hallway and out of the bedroom area, they walk into the main space for little monsters to play.

The main area was a variety of soft colors with a multicolored carpet blanketing the floor. Some toys were scattered about from the really young monsters playing. Two tables with four chairs were in two different corners of the area. One having paper with pencils and coloring utensils, while the other had some sand with little toys in it.

Papers with a variety of drawings littered the walls. Some having friends standing next to each other while others had drawings of the little monsters favorite things. It was quite the calm area compared to the other side of the laboratory.

Candy skipped threw the main area and over to the emergency part of the lab.

"Are we going to see Geno and Fresh, Candy?" Ink questioned excitedly.

"Yes we are Inky." Candy confirmed, as she skipped into a room with a nice comfy bed and a desk.

A large man was typing away on a computer his blank stare towards the lit up screen showing just how exhausted he was.

Beeping resounded around the room over by the bed which housed a cute little five year old skeleton named Geno. Geno was currently asleep with two wires coming off him.

Candy frowned, "Did he have another episode Alex?" She asked only to not get a response. Her eye twitched, "Alex!" She boomed earning a grunt from the old man. She pursed her lips in annoyance, "I just remembered why I don't talk to you." She huffed out, earning another grunt from him.

"Candy, is Geno okay?" Candy's little bundle of bones asked.

Candy nuzzled Inks skull gently, "He will be just fine Inky." She comforted.

"Don't lie to the boy Candy. It's not like you." Alex finally spoke, his voice gruff and scratchy.

Candy whipped her head to her coworker, "I don't see you putting faith in Geno." She snapped as she put Ink down. Standing straight, she sauntered over to Alex and slammed her hand on his desk.

The old man sighed heavily, "Candy dear, I'm being realistic. Geno has had so many episodes. So many scares and an untreatable shard of a soul. That scar on his rib cage just adds to his many medical problems. We were lucky to get it to stop bleeding. It will be a miracle if he lives to see the outside." He reasoned.

"He's lived this long hasn't he? Whose to say he won't live for a long time after this place?" Candy gestures to the laboratory.

"Whose to say he will?" He counters, his tired chocolate colored eyes finding her ocean blue ones.

Candy laughed humorlessly, "You're such a dunce Alex. Geno has lived this long because of your care. Your determination not to let him go as you did your wife. That shows me that you have more faith in Geno then anyone else in this lab does. You took him on when that blasted skeleton said to toss him. He's here because of you." Candy ranted, her eyes never leaving his just to show him how certain she was, "Hell! Just look at how well he is right now. He looks better then the first day you started working on him. Down to two wires just shows how much he's improved."

"It still doesn't matter if he can't stop having those damn episodes." Alex muttered.

"Language Alex! I don't want Ink to pick up on you or Jade." Candy threw her hands up in exasperation.

"Yo dudes! Heard my name!" A feminine voice yelled from the door Candy had originally came threw.

Alex grunted as he returned to his computer typing.

Candy huffed as she broke off, walking over to Ink who was sitting on Geno's bed drawing with the now awake skeleton. She crouched down next to Geno's bed, giving Geno a lopsided grin, "Hey sweety. How's our determined little skeleton?" She questioned.

"Fine." Geno answered quietly, shyly as he drew a little bat or what looked to be a bat.

"That's good." Candy remarked as she took a crayon and a piece of paper.

Ink glanced at Candy, excitement lighting up his features, "A-Are you drawing with us Candy?" He asked with a hopeful expression. It was rare that Candy actually drew something with them and when she did, her drawing was always on the scene in front of her.

Candy grinned at Ink, "Maybe." She always loved to leave Ink guessing. It always gave him something to look forward too.

"Candy!" Ink drawling out the 'y'.

"Nah! You stop that! No whining!" Candy booped the middle of Ink's skull.

Ink pouted as Geno tried to suppress a giggle which he failed at.

Suddenly a multi colored caped skeleton ran into the room. He had a wide grinned smile on his face as he ran to the other side of the bed that Candy wasn't occupying. The skeleton climbed up and laid belly down on the bed, "Sup."

"Well it seems we have an escapee." Candy chuckled as she drew.

Geno's shy smile twitched into a huge grin when the new skeleton climbed on his bed, "Hi Fresh! You have to draw with us now." Geno declared as he grabbed a crayon and a piece of paper for Fresh, handing the items to his friend.

Fresh smiled happily, "Okay broski!" He easily agreed.

"FRESH?!" The women yelled.

"Jade! In here!" Candy called.

Jade, in bright colored clothing, rushed into the room panting, "You little..." She paused to catch her breath as Fresh stared at her with an amused grin.

Alex's eye twitched, "You two always bother me in the mornings." He grunted.

"Because your always a grump Lexy." Jade breathed as she waved him off.

Candy rolled her eyes, "Jade don't tease Alex, he has work to do."

Jade walked over to Geno's bed and crouched down on the side Fresh was belly down on. The little five year old drawing an upside down heart, "Jade look what I made!" He held it up in front of her face.

Jades smile twitched but she didn't lose her smile, "It looks good Freshy."

~

Unfortunatly for Fresh he mostly stays in the emergency unite, do to the unusual placement of his soul also him having a seemingly constant positive emotion enveloping him. He was another skeleton Gaster had said to dispose of but Jade, feeling that she was biting a bullet, stepped up to take the baby bones into her care. His soul scares most of the other skeletons so Jade gave him her sunglasses.

Geno was unfortunately given the sicker of the two hands so Gaster was even more forceful in getting rid of the small skeleton. But Alex saw something in Geno and decided to give the small bundle of bones a chance at life. Alex worked constantly on the skeleton, most of the nurses calling him Geno because it fit him. Eventually the name just stuck and even Alex started using it despite Gasters warnings on not getting attached to the artificial beings.

Ink was originally in the emergency part of the lab because it didn't seem like he had emotion nor did he have a soul. Gaster claimed Ink as the perfect specimen, or, weapon in his words. Candy was worried so she devised a secret drug to help her little skeleton feel. She was also concerned about Jade's little one so she made the drug for little Fresh as well. Ink was the more receptive one of the two, gaining emotions so fast the little bones cried.

~

An hour past and Candy was done with her drawing. More scientists had flooded in and the day officially started. Candy had given her drawing to Ink who happily accepted it.

Eventually Jade and Candy left Alex to his work as they went back to the main area. Although their little bones couldn't play yet since Gaster wants to test the artificial beings everyday.

Of course Jade and Candy never did any extreme testing on their little ones. The scientists seeing the extreme testing as a way of scaring the children. So they opted to do the lesser testing and only give Gaster the minimum that he wanted. That being the skeletons capabilities, magic type, emotional state, and well being.

~

As long as Gaster was satisfied he would keep away from the kids, the lab, and anything really to do with the project. He was doing this for the king to help with the war. He couldn't let emotion get in the way.

So in the times Gaster would come by, visit, the scientists had to stay a good distance from the kids. Every time it would scare the kids and every time the scientists would go into a depression or certain ones would.

There are three sections too this laboratory. The emergency unite for sick or disabled subjects. The normal unite for normal subjects. Finally, the other unite for testing and experimenting on subjects.

~

With the testing done, Ink was allowed to play. Candy always kept a close eye on her small one, never withholding her motherly affection unless Gaster was around. She never had a grown up figure to look up too when she was younger. Maybe once upon a time but in the present, no.

Putting her hands on the front counter in the main area she hung her head. The lab felt small again which wasn't the first time. Candy had forgotten to take her medication because she was so worried over Ink since he hates being alone. Her medication helps with her anxiety and fear of others.

Others being things that look like a person.

Others as in things that can hold objects which can kill you.

"Candy darling!" A voice cut through her little panic attack. Her head shot up as she looked at a rosey lipsticked Cassidy standing next a violet lipsticked Kassidy. Both women having star eyed baby bones on their hips.

"C, Candy looks positivity awful!" Kassidy exclaimed dramatically.

"K, don't say that love! You know how annoyed she gets while off her meds." Cassidy scolds her wife.

Candy's eye twitches, she moves her arms so her face is resting on her hands, "Do you two witches have my meds?" These two were heathens! Whenever they figured out Candy didn't take her meds, they always went and took them from her apartment. They were never over on this side of the lab ether. Only when Candy didn't do what she was suppose to.

Which was often.

Kassidy and Cassidy had a soft spot since Candy let them stay with her for a bit sometime ago. A lovely time they had together!

The ladies giggled, "C, give the girl her meds." Kassidy smirked as she snapped her blue bubble gum.

"K, you always kill off my fun." Cassidy pouted as she took out the little prescription that had Candy's name on it. Putting it on the counter the women locked hands and walked off.

"Heathens." Candy mutter as she swiped her medication, popping the lid open. Taking one out she popped it in her mouth. Swallowing it without water she breathed a sigh of relief because despite those two being witches, they were reliable friends and coworkers.
