XI

Eva had fallen asleep in Ivars' arms. He was so content watching her sleep but what she told him about Elaine getting an abortion had him ready to slit someone's throat. Ivar deciding to sate his bloodlust, he kissed Eva's head before sliding off the bed to find his dagger.

Ivar made a pit stop in the kitchen, happy to find that Eva still left a low cupboard full of snacks for him. After chowing down on some beef jerky he made his way up to Elaine's room on the far side of the house.

Letting himself in with more caution this time he managed to get to her bed without her waking. Ivar grabbed her upper body and put her in a tight chokehold. Elaine woke with a start, struggling to breathe. Ivar had her exactly where he wanted her and Eva wasn't here to save her this time.

"Listen here you little witch, you should be dead with your unborn child you murdered!" he sneered in her ear.

Elaine whimpered scared for her life, trying to loosen his grip on her throat.

"That baby was innocent and had no blame in your stupid faults! Freya blessed you with child and you killed it with no excuse but that you are a coward," he hissed

Elaine was mortified, Ivars grip was slowly getting tighter with each word he said and she knew it was useless to fight, she wasn't strong enough.

"There is no place in this world for a pathetic being like you. I would kill you now but I will not hurt Eva! My conscious for now is content knowing you will never make it into Valhalla!" his voice deadly.

Ivar grabbed his dagger and pressed it into her throat, just enough to break the skin.

"This is your first and only warning if you ever hurt or do anything to Eva in a manner that I do not like again.. you are dead... murderer," he spat.

Ivar released her and started to crawl back to Eva.

Elaine sprawled out on the bed trying to catch her breath, her throat was burning and she didn't know how to stop it. She had never been so scared in her life and she knew she had to get the handicap out of her house or she was dead.

......................................

A few weeks later Eva and Elaine were in the kitchen, Eva was cooking and Elaine was washing the dishes. Ivar was now part of the Sorenson household and no one questioned it, he welcomed himself through the front door and was sleeping again in Eva's bedroom floor. She had insisted he take the spare bedroom, but he refused, saying that he was more comfortable in his makeshift bed on the ground. Eva just shrugged it off and things continued as if he never left.

Ivar worked at the blacksmith store during the day and Eva would walk to him after school and they would walk home together. Since Ivar had come back, Elaine had been keeping her distance from Eva and Eva was only starting to notice recently that she wasn't acting her usual clingy self. Eva had an idea it was because of Ivar but not so sure if something had happened when she was not around. Their parents couldn't care less if Ivar was living under their roof and eating their food, as long as he kept their daughters dirty little secret they turned a blind eye.

"Elaine," Eva said stirring the pot of soup.

"Yeah?"

"Are you all right?"

"Who is Freya?" curiosity coating her voice.

Eva was taken by surprise from her question about Ivars' goddess.

"Freya is a Norse goddess, she is the goddess of Love, fertility and beauty. Where did this question come from? Did Ivar say something?" Eva answered.

"Norse goddess? Isn't that stuff fake and ancient?" Elaine's' face contorted.

"Well not to Ivar, they are alive and true, like God in Christian religions."

"Ivar's really weird! where did he come from anyway? his accent is horrendous, and he has hardly any table manners, he's rude and thinks he can do whatever he wants like threaten peoples' lives. Why is he living with us? Why can't he live somewhere else? He needs to move out!" Elaine rapidly babbled.

"Slow down Elaine, whats going on?" Eva put down the wooden spoon and focused all her attention on her sister.

Elaine kept washing dishes, trying to distract herself. Eva patiently waited for her to answer. After a few seconds, Elaine stopped what she was doing, but kept her head down. Tears were silently rolling down her flushed cheeks.

"He called me a murderer," she whispered.

Eva gasped, shocked at what her sister just said. She quickly gathered her sister into a warm embrace, rubbing her back in comfort. Elaine couldn't hold it in any longer, she bawled her eyes out.

"He said Freya blessed me with a baby and  I murdered it because I'm a coward!" she cried, "and he's right!"

"Shhh... don't say that. You are not a murderer," Eva hushed her.

'Typical the Viking who mercilessly raids other countries for the hell of it calling my baby sister a murderer,' Eva thought.

"I'm sorry he said that but don't listen to him, you are young and you had to make a hard decision" she soothed "No regrets remember."

"But he's..."

"No buts, Ivar has been through a lot, he has his reason for his reaction but that doesn't mean he is right."

"He snuck up to my room and choked me," she whimpered, "he said if I hurt you again, he'll kill me."

Eva wasn't shocked to her dismay, she had hoped Ivar had controlled his urges to hurt her sister but obviously, he failed. She should have guessed it, but she wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt.

"I'm so sorry Elaine, It won't ever happen again!" her voice full of promise.

"This is your home, you should always feel safe in. I wont allow Ivar to hurt you, I promise!"

"I know he makes you happy, happier than anyone else in this fucking pathetic family ever did," she sniffed "So don't kick him out, he's right about me anyways I am pathetic!"

Eva couldn't help but frown at her sister's words.

"Ivars' legs have made him into the person he is today, but they are also the reason his father tried to leave him to the wolves when he was a newborn. Knowing you gave up your child without even giving it a chance is hard for him to accept because of his background," Eva sighed.

"Its just a sensitive topic for him, but he is in no place to judge Elaine."

"Leave him to the wolves? You mean so they could eat him?" Elaine body tensed.

"He wasn't born in the same society as us, he was born in a more... old-fashioned kinda household," Eva struggling to answer her question.

"I understand why he's so upset with me now even though I know he's hated me from the start."

"Just ignore Ivar if he's being rude or anything and tell me straight away if he ever puts his hands on you again. I'll talk to him."

.............................................

Ivar was hanging out with Nick and Joseph that night, they were having a boys night they said. Eva couldn't imagine Ivar sitting on an Xbox playing games, but she was happy he had made some friends. Though Ivar was just tolerating Joseph for her sake.

Joseph was another story, he idolizes Ivar, he has been trying to learn new skills with hunting anytime he can get off him. Eva was happy they were at least progressing in the right direction, though Eva was still confused why Ivar was acting like a jealous prick when he was the one sleeping in her room every night.

Eva made her way over to Nicks apartment, she was fuming. She needed to talk Ivar asap before he got home, she didn't want her sister to listen to them argue about her and feel even more bad about the situation.

Eva knocked on the door but no one answered, she turned the doorknob and it opened. She let herself in, thinking they were watching TV or something.

"Nick?" she spoke out loud.

She made her way into his lounge and no one was there. 'Strange' she thought. Eva decided to wait in the lounge for them to come home from where ever they went. She turned the TV on and watched 'Friends' while she waited.

Ten minutes later she heard the front door open and someone making their way to the lounge.

"Ew, loser what the heck are you doing here?" a familiar shrill voice said.

"Just my freaking luck!" Eva muttered.

"Just waiting on someone," Eva replied paying no attention to Stella.

"Well sorry Fugly, your wannabe pathetic self is not welcome here," Stella stared daggers at her.

Eva just ignored her and kept her attention on the TV, praying that Ivar would hurry up so she could leave.

"So you've made some friends, how cute," sarcasm dripping from Stella's voice. "How the hell did you find the hottest handicap in town and make him your friend?"

By this point, Ivar had entered the door, as he heard voices he followed them. Joseph and Nick were putting the gear away, so Ivar went ahead inside first but saw the door open and rushed inside curious who the intruder was. As Ivar came to the lounge he saw Stella standing at the back of the couch across from Eva, and Eva sitting watching TV just minding her own business.

"How sad is that? That a disabled man feels pity for you that he's pretending to be your friend," Stella hissed.

Ivars' temper flared at that very moment, he was ready to kill Stella. Nicks sister or not she was not getting away with how he spoke to Eva. Ivar looked at Eva waiting for her to defend herself, but Eva just continued to pretend like Stella wasn't there.

"Did you sleep with him to get him to stick around? Joseph too?"

Nick and Joseph had joined Ivar at the foot of the door curious what was going on.

"Stop being pathetic, you following them around like a lost puppy," Stella sneered.

"STELLA!" Nick yelled, "what do you think you're doing?!"

Stella jumped, just realizing she had a crowd. She turned on her heels slowly with a fake smile on her face.

"Hey, big brother! Where have you been?"

Once Eva heard Nick her gaze fell upon Ivar, Ivar could see her hazel eyes were watering and her bottom lip was trembling. That enraged Ivar even more, his blue orbs were stormy.

Stella noticed Ivar and sent him a flirtatious smile. Ivar looked her up and down with disgust, but Stella not knowing Ivar at all took it as if he was checking her out.

"Hey, sexy?" Stella smirked.

"Stella! What is wrong with you!" Nick spat

"She's in for a good time," Joseph whistled, sitting back waiting for the show to begin.

"What is wrong with little sisters these days?" Ivar muttered.

Then he gestured for Stella to move closer, Stella smirk widens and she gave Eva a quick glance of victory before she made her way towards Ivar. Eva and Nick's eyes widen in shock, as Joseph grinned and Ivar smirked right back at Stella.

"Stella don't!" Nick warned. "Ouch!" Nick screeched as he tumbled to the ground, Ivar had ankle tapped him.

Stella giggled but followed through anyways getting close to Ivars' face.

"Yeah," her voice seductive.

Ivar grabs her long luscious locks in his left hand and brought her close so that his mouth was touching right ear. His right hand sneaking into his belt grabbing for his handy dagger.

"Listen here, and listen good," Ivar said voice full of venom. "You stay the hel away from Eva if I hear of you even speaking of her in any way at all... it will be more than just your hair I will slice off!"

Stella rapidly moved out of his hold and grabbed her hair. Only to find it wasn't there anymore. Her eyes bulged out of her head, and tears started to stream down her now embarrassed face. She ran out the door of the house crying, with a new butchered haircut, leaving shocked silence in the room.

Ivar searched Eva's face, he saw relief on her face and made his move towards her. Nick hissed a cuss and ran after his sister and Joseph fell backwards laughing his head off, glad Ivar didn't disappoint.
