There were no more humans left after the war.
Or so they thought.
Eva had been locked in a vault and grounded in her house by her parents, and there was no escape when the house shook and the ceiling began to crack. In retrospect, there was no way she could have survived. When the piece of concrete fell, it had crushed her heart. Eva was no doubt, surely, dead.
But then again, gods didn't die.
If you check the history books, they'll say that the radiation from the nuclear bombs had a chemical reaction with the corpses from all over the world. It produced a chemical which changes the DNA of the living human beings. Some special individuals had been gifted supernatural powers.
Now, I should probably mention the other individuals that were gifted such powers.
Stephanie, a young girl. If there was one thing she was known for, it was for her unreasonably short height. ( She really wasn't that short, but somehow she was surrounded by a lot of tall people, so she grew up thinking she was very short. ) She had been kidnapped by her kidnapper ( duh ), whom she kicked in the groin. That's a story for later.
There was Vicky, who had just been buying bubble tea, or 'boba' as she liked to call it, at her favorite boba shop. Actually, it was less 'buying' than 'shoplifting-and-leaving-money-on-the-counter'. In her defense, she had had bad influences in her life.
Another girl who was passionate about content-creating, had been exploring a sewer for her latest Youtube Short. Her name was Cherry. Fortunately for her, that sewer actually was a bomb-proof tunnel used during past wars.
They didn't necessarily die, but they definitely came close to it.
Right now, let's focus back on our dear goddess Eva.

Eva didn't expect to wake up. But she did. She blinked, staring up at the gray sky. Something rumbled in the distance, and Eva knew something had changed. In the world, but also within herself. A gust of wind blew, brushing against her cheek, a gentle caress. Eva felt her body lifting, and in a second she was high in the sky, over viewing the broken wasteland.
Any other person would have been shocked – but not Eva. As she observed the ruins, a sort of smile – not exactly happy, but there was pride in it- came up on her face. It was time to build a new empire.
Eva had always been ambitious. Since she was young, she had wanted to be so much. But they were all dreams, fantasies up to now. Now, it was possible. She had the world under her grasp.
Perhaps one will be curious as to why Eva could deduce all of that out by her levitating into the air. Gods do seem to know a lot for no reason. You can be from any religion and know that gods are usually tied to the destinies of themselves and their people.
But of course, at that time, Eva didn't quite know her potential yet. She was there, stuck in the sky, levitating upwards inch by inch. She was about to pass through the clouds. That jolted her back to reality.
"Down," Eva muttered, then louder, as if someone could hear her,"Down!" But whatever strange force that was controlling her uplift did not listen. "I said, down!" shouted Eva one last time as she tumbled to the ground and landed on the grass which softened her fall.
"Do I have to shout every time I want to fly? Unreliable," grumbled Eva as she brushed herself off. Miraculously, she felt fine. She thought it was just the euphoria of the moment that she had survived, and that inexplicable feeling of destiny that made the pain disappear for that moment. She shouldn't have been feeling fine- her town had been destroyed and she herself was hit by a piece of falling rock. She clearly remembered the crushing pain.
And yet it all seemed so far away, like a dream. The details were fading by the second, and Eva no longer held onto what was possible and what wasn't- just the future.
She glanced around. She was standing amidst her house's wreckage. A single iron door remained intact, before Eva angrily kicked it and it fell to the ground with a loud clang. Upon coming in contact with the ground, it disintegrated into ashes.
"Oh yeah, guess I should be grateful for getting stuck in a vault," Eva said to herself, stepping over the ruins. "Actually I probably should be..." muttered Eva. Her emotions were too slow to keep up with the pace of the present. She walked across the rather barren lands of earth, breathing in the (as ) fresh ( as it could be ) air.
All of a sudden, she saw a small humanoid figure. Feeling suspicious, Eva sneaked behind it to see who it was. After all, it could be anything. But as she went closer, her suspicions vanished. It was just a short girl. "Wow, I didn't know anyone else survived." said Eva, approaching her.
"Hey! So you're another survivor." said the girl, turning her head and quite un-surprised by the sudden encounter. "I'm Stephanie. What about you?"
"Eva. By another, you mean there's more people?"
"Yeah. Come with me."
Stephanie brought Eva to her secret base. It was a short, peculiar building that was strangely barely scratched by the disaster, and seemed to be half-underground. If Eva had to guess, it would have to be a safe shelter created in the past.
Inside the base were indeed 2 other girls, both chilling on the couches. "This is Cherry," said Stephanie, gesturing to the room,"And this is Vicky. Vicky, Cherry, meet Eva."
One of them had a rounder face, a ponytail and glasses — probably Cherry — and the other had a good fashion style, with straight bangs and a bag around her waist—probably Vicky.
Cherry was eating cherries and Vicky was scrolling through Instagram ("Why is the Wi-Fi so bad??? UwU." Vicky groaned).
"So, did you get superpowers? I've got them, all of us have. It only seems natural for you to also have," asked Stephanie.
"They're so cool!" squealed Vicky.
Eva scratched the back of her neck,"Yeah... I was randomly lifted off the ground a moment ago. I... may have flight powers?"
"Yeah, but for me a wormhole appeared beneath my feet. I got teleported here to Cherry and Vicky. My hypothesis is, the nukes that the countries used created a nuclear reaction with our DNA, making us have powers. It's pretty cool honestly." said Stephanie, sipping on a box of apple juice she'd produced from the barely working fridge.
Eva adapted to the new lifestyle quickly. Altogether they actually had a pretty good dynamic. Cherry and Vicky were best friends, and they would go to IKEA together to get supplies and food, which miraculously had survived the bombs. It was very convenient as the base was located right next to the once-popular shopping mall. Cherry's specialty was ( you guessed it ) cherries, and she could conjure a cherry gun with infinite bullets. Vicky had charm, cuteness hypnosis, which works extremely well when she wants something, and physical healing powers.
Eva spent some time trying to discover her powers. Just as she thought, she had the power of levitation- she could levitate things, others, or herself. She could also summon ( or as Eva suspected, create ) objects.
Eva smiled as she held all fifty floating debris in place. Cherry and Vicky cheered from a distance. Flicking her hand, she released them all. As they fell simultaneously and shattered on the ground, Eva surveyed the landscape.
Her kingdom.

...
Four days later:
"Guys," said Cherry, bursting in,"I saw another person..." "Where?" Eva whirled around. "Who are they?" Vicky jumped up and down at the idea of having a new friend in the group. "Problem is... she was stealing from our base. Steph's dealing with her right now," Cherry shrugged.
"Wait, wait, wait. Calm down. Let's see who she is first," Eva strode from the room, Vicky and Cherry following her. Inside their makeshift living room, the two were fighting furiously. "You're really an idiot to steal from our base, you know!" Steph shouted as a blackhole appeared behind the girl. The girl dodged the blackhole quickly, landing behind Steph.
"Missed," taunted the girl, raising her fist to punch Steph in the back. Her fist made contact with a coffee cup. "Ow!" exclaimed the girl, flinging her hand in the air. For the first time, she noticed Eva and the others. Her eyes scanned the group, before a frown broke out on her face. "Hey, this was our fight. Don't butt in."
"And this is our base. So, don't steal from it." Eva said, taking a step forward. She looked at the girl with a steel-like glare. The girl returned one just as fiery. "Okay, I won't deny that I stole from your base. But, survival, you know."
"You don't have to steal," said Eva, "I mean, you could join us. We have a better chance of survival if that's what you're concerned about. I don't mind sharing-" "I do," interrupted Steph, who was still glaring at the girl. "Well, I don't." Eva retorted.
The girl glanced between Steph and Eva, an almost amused look on her face. "So you're the leader, huh?" She spread her arms,"Well, you know how it works- take out the boss, and the rest follow!" A small flame ignited on the tip of her finger.
Eva scowled, "Are you trying to pick a fight? I offered you a place in our group! Don't test my patience." The girl laughed, "Well, see, I don't especially care about your little group. Firstly, I prefer to go solo. Secondly, I don't really feel bad about stealing from your base. It's survival of the fittest. It's not my fault your base is basically a shed."
"It's not-" "And thirdly, you all seem weak. So, yep." The girl smiled tauntingly. She was definitely trying to pick a fight.
Eva was feeling quite irritated now. "Do you think," Eva took one more step forward, "That you can just insult us, and get away with it?"
"It seems so," the girl's grin grew wider. In a flash, she brought out a pistol. "Have you ever been shot with a gun? I have. It's not a very pleasant feeling."
Eva was unfazed by the sudden appearance of a weapon. "And I'd like to make you feel that again. Where'd you get that, huh? Stole it from our base?" mocked Eva.
"I'm not sure what you're trying to say, because yes, I did. I'm not really ashamed of it, because you're going to die by my hand, with your own weapons." The girl said.
"Oh, really?" Eva's voice was cold.
It happened in a blink of an eye, almost too fast to comprehend. The girl shot at Eva, who had summoned a gun as well. A loud clang was heard, then a person toppled.
Eva had her gun held out in front of her, expression passionless and apathetic. A dented piece of metal levitated in front of her chest. It fell to the ground. Eva turned and said with a stiff voice, "Take care of the body."
❛ ━━・❪ ✧ ❫ ・━━ ❜
"Here is okay, uwu." Vicky told Cherry. They stood on a hilltop in front of a lake. Originally, it wasn't a lake. It was more of a crater filled with rainwater than a real lake.
Cherry gently laid down the body. Blood still seeped out of her chest. "Let's just get this done, Cherry," said Vicky softly upon seeing Cherry wince.
"Okay," Cherry swallowed, giving the body a push. The girl's limp body rolled off of the dirt slope and fell into the water with a faint splash. Crimson blended with the rather murky water. The two stood there for some time, then Cherry broke the ice.
"Eva... killed someone." Cherry whispered,"She could bear to do it." Vicky hesitated, then enveloped the girl in a hug, "She was evil," Vicky said, "Eva did the right thing."
"I know, but-" Cherry felt a lump in her throat. The girl looked the same age as them, and had so luckily survived the war, but was killed by Eva. And it was so quick, like life was really that fragile, so able to be stolen from one's grasp. Was it really right, even if she had been stealing from their base?
"Should Eva have- Did it really- We don't even know her name-" Cherry stammered, trying to find the right words to say what she was thinking. She had never imagined Eva being able to kill someone, intentionally.
"Cherry," Vicky put her hands on Cherry's shoulders, looking at Cherry with a fixed stare,"She's dead already. There's no good trying to change that. What can we do about it?"
Cherry looked downwards,"I told Eva-" "Don't blame yourself," Vicky said sternly,"It's not your fault. No matter what, it had nothing to do with you."
Cherry inhaled shakily.
"I just don't believe she could do it. Is she really..."
Vicky gave her friend another hug, "I know."
A moment passed. Vicky released Cherry from her arms and suggested,"If you want, we don't need to go back to the base today. We can have a picnic outside?" Cherry smiled, as sad as it was, and nodded.
The two walked away.

Glay dreamt of being in her bed, sleeping peacefully. It was Saturday and no one would come to bother her. She could sleep in if she wanted. And boy, did she want-
Pain shot through her chest. Then her lungs. Glay gasped, trying to get air into her lungs , but no- all that came in was freezing water. Her chest felt constricted. Another wave of pain crashed over her.
Feeling slowly returned to the rest of her body, and it wasn't a good feeling. She felt so, so cold, and felt chilling water all around. Not to mention the sting in her chest was simply agonizing.
She got the feeling that she was drowning.
As much as it hurt, Glay moved her arms and reached up. Pushing them down in one strong motion, she felt the currents lift her up, up, up-
She crashed through the surface, screaming as she did. The pain was terrible, head-splitting. She felt the agony more clearly. It all focused on a spot next to her heart. Somehow she knew it had missed the fatal spot, but that didn't make the wound any less excruciating.
She flailed in the water for a few seconds, before losing strength. She fell back into the water, sinking deeper and deeper. Her eyelids drifted shut as unconsciousness overtook her body. But she didn't feel like she was going to die. It only felt like she was taking a break.
Her eyes snapped open once again, revealing a vengeful glare.
I will get my revenge.
