The log cabin in Mount Berthika

As Evangeline tiptoed up her grandmothers creaking stairs in the middle of a stormy night holding a glass of water, a terrible thought caught her attention and made her stumble and almost fall. Water spilt on the stairs making it slippery.

She took a towel and wiped it up as the thought. Was boarding school going to be as horrible as in the stories she had read? Was she going to make any friends? How much will she miss the remaining relatives she had? (her grandmother and her aunt, she didn't know she had a few others yet) after drying the floor she put the towel on the line to dry.

What if she didn't fit in? She was different from all the others, she knew that but what would happen to her if they found out?

All these thoughts had been bothering her for a week now since her aunt gave her the news but never had she thought of it in such depth. Next week she would be sent away from home again.

Evangeline's parents had been executed by immolation. It was a private one with only seven people attending: the wizard executor, the human pastor, her human aunt Eloise, her elf uncle Finley, her two parents and her elvish godfather Maxwell Simons.

She was only a year and a half at the time so she didn't know what had happened to her parents. This was because her aunt and grandmother were keeping it a secret.

Evangeline was 10 years old now and had lived in her grandma's cabin for as long as she could remember in Mount Berthika, a small mountain north of England, invisible to non magical creatures. Only her family could get to it. Her aunt had legally adopted Evangeline and raised her as her own child. That way Evangeline knew what her mother looked like by looking at her aunt because her mother and aunt were identical twins; on the other hand she only knew what her father looked like from one photo she kept in her pocket.

The cabin she lived in was made of oak and was built by Evangeline's grand father, Louis Greiberd (wizard). It had two stories: The first floor had a bedroom for Louis and his wife Caitlin, the kitchen, the living room and a bathroom.

Upstairs there were two bedrooms: one room for both of their twin daughters Mildred and Esmeralda, and the guest room opposite the girls room. There was a bathroom next to both rooms. The twins room had two desks, a bedside table on the left side of the bunkbed, a wardrobe, a small couch and a bookshelf.

Esmeralda looked like this:

And her aunt Mildred looked like this:

Down the hall was the big study room that had bookshelves stuffed with spellbooks. It also had a desk right in front of a big glass window with thick purple and yellow curtains. Lastly the hall separating all of the rooms was filled with paintings Evangeline's mother Esmeralda had made when she was alive.

The next morning:
Aunt Mildred : "Evangeline Elvencore, COME DOWN STAIRS AT ONCE!!!"
"MMMMMMH" she groand while rolling her eyes and turning over on to her other side and falling straight asleep again. As soon as she fell asleep, she carried on her dream about a boy around her age maybe a year or two younger, who was trying to get out of a beautifully peaceful and happy place. She was on the other side of a 6 meter tall wall made from rock, but she couldn't help the boy get out. At last she opened her eyes, reached for her glasses, put them on and got up.

"I don't want to go to bording school Mommy, don't you understand?" She whined.

"Aaaah you need to go! You need to learn how to behave properly like a young woman, and learn how to cook and how to grow plants and you can do sports too, and don't forget you will be learning magic!"

"That sounds horrible! And also I don't want to go alone and not make friends, I'd rather stay here." Said Evangeline, her mind made up that she's not going.

"You are a lovely girl so i am sure everyone will want to be your friend. And also just think of your poor nan, she needs some peace and quiet around here to get better." Mildred said.

"she needs me to help her and get better. Without me she can't possibly go on" Evangeline argued.

"Quiet now and finish eating your porridge!"
Evangeline HATED porridge and always took FOREVER to finish it. Sometimes she even felt like vomiting!

Eventually she went upstairs to her room to sort through the things she was going to take along to the boarding school.
