Evalyn sat cross-legged in front of the tree that grew in the center of the garden. In her lap, Leo laid staring directly at the Earthian, watching his every move. Evalyn begin to stroke Leo in a calming matter. "I come from a world called Tigen," Evalyn began her story. "And it is nothing compared to the world you live in, known as Earth. Tigen is a world where there are no gods, the Law is our guide, our belief. We follow it and obey it. There are fifteen Council members. The Councils are the leaders of Tigen. They make and reinforce the Laws.
"Each district of Tigen has three Councils of the Council members. The Northern, the Eastern, the Southern, Western, and lastly, the Center District, where the Capitol is. The Capitol is the central city of Tigen. It is where the other members of our Council come to discuss and deal with Tigen matters. My father is one of the fifteen Councils. We live at the Capitol. My family and I live on the tip of the city in a mansion, which has been destroyed by the Dormins..." Evalyn took in a deep breath. Never before had she had to tell the history of her world.
Chris sat, engaged in her tale. He would have been sitting on the edge of his seat if he was sitting on one that is. "Awesome." He said. "So are there other worlds out there beside mine and yours? And what are these Dormins you keep mentioning?" Evalyn shook her head.
"As far as I'm concerned, there are no other worlds. Just Earth and Tigen. And the Dormins? They are demon-like creatures. Back when Tigen was still young, a young Tigenian discovered a way to enhance his powers"—Evalyn showed Chris her ring that rested peacefully on her finger— "these give you your power. Without them, you would be totally powerless." Evalyn quickly explained. "Anyway, his discovery led into a disaster. His followers were turned into something else, something evil. The books explained that they looked like shadows, but in a demon form.
"The Councils were so horrified by the discovery that they had the creatures eliminated and had the Tigenian who discovered it thrown into prison on the Isle of Rocks. They claimed his experiments were dangerous and a threat to Tigen. The Tigenian was angry with them and sworn venages. A year later, he escaped from the Isle of Rocks and ran to the Dead Lands where he continued his experiments. Eventually he turned himself into those creatures and called them Dormins. He kidnapped wanders who dared venture too into the Dead Lands and turned them as well.
"There was war. We prevailed, but just barely. The Dormins retreated back to their home in the Dead Lands and were never seen again, that is... until now." Evalyn's story stopped then. She stroked Leo's spine and he produced a comforting purr. She didn't meet Chris' eyes. Evalyn was stuck too much in the past.
"I'm sorry." Chris said, truly. Evalyn meet his eyes.
"Why? It doesn't even concern you?" She said. Chris shrugged.
"I'm just am." He looked up through the clutter of leaves and saw it was in the evening. Wow, he thought. How fast time flies. He then realized how hungry he was. "Come on, let's go get some dinner. I promise I won't make you sit next to my friends." Chris give Evalyn his hand. Evalyn though, gave it a strange look. "I don't bite you know." He gave her a corky smile. Wearily, Evalyn took it. And together they made their way out of the garden and into the house.
