"C-cover?" Chris stammered from up against the tree. "What cover?" So far this day hadn't turn out as he had hoped. Chasing down a girl he barely knew, seeing glowing eyes and then fainting, and finally being pin to a tree by some invisible force, was not apart of his bucket list. He quickly wandered if this would be his last moments on Earth. "So what are you? Some type of spy or something?" Evalyn cocked her head up at him.
"No." She said. "By cover I mean by revealing me. Me and a few others from my world barely escaped with our lives... and now..." she trailed, lost in memory. Shaking her head violently, she gently set Chris to feet. She closed her eyes and when she reopened them, they were no longer glowing. "But I don't have to explain myself to you." With that, she turned on heels and began to walk back to the house. Leo following at her heels.
Chris took a second to comprehend what had happened. He shook his own head and chased after her. Why? He had no clue. "Hey!" He called. "Where are you going?" When he caught up with her, Leo hissed at him. Chris made sure to keep his distances.
"Go away." Evalyn said.
"Where you goin?" Chris asked again, clearly avoiding her comment.
"I'm leaving, that's where I'm going. Some place far, far from here. And to find Mr. Collins." Evalyn kept up her stride, never breaking, and never slowing down. It was clear as day she was a woman on a mission. Just as she broke from the shade of the trees, Chris walked in front of her, forcing her to a stop.
"Come on," he said. "I didn't mean what I said back there. It was just a joke... give me a chance will you? I promise I won't tell a single soul." He raised his right hand to prove it.
"You promise?" Evalyn seethed. "What good is an Earthian's word? I know all about your kind. Whenever something unexplainable occurs, there's always that one person who just has to tell the whole world." Evalyn steered around him, making her way back to the house.
"I'm different than the others!" He called after her. "And... if you leave... I'll tell!" Evalyn stopped in her tracks. She turned to face him.
"Who will believe a simple boy like you?" She called back and restarted her journey back to the house.
"But if you leave, how will you know where you're going? You probably don't even know where your Mr. Collins even went off to. So how can you find someone that you don't even know their location?" Evalyn stopped again. This time she didn't turn around. Chris had her there. He smiled. After what seemed like a full minute, Evalyn turned on her heels and walked briskly back to Chris.
"Fine." She said. "I'll stay. But only if you keep your word you will not tell a single soul about me. Because if I'm founded, it could lead to my world's destruction." Chris nodded like a child who didn't clearly understand what their parent said, but nodded just to nod. When he was finished nodding, he scrunched up his face.
"Wait..." he said catching on. "You said 'if I'm founded, it could lead to my world's destruction.' Um. What do you mean by that, exactly?" Evalyn looked around them to make sure that they weren't being watched, then motioned Chris to follow her back into the garden. Ok, Chris thought to himself. This is either the part that I will die horribly, and no one will ever find my body, or, this is the part where I'm about to discover something cool.
