TWENTYFOUR - 이십 사

My eyes go wider than saucers at the question Taehyung asks me. He's serious expression tells me that he's not joking at all. Suddenly the relaxed atmosphere we had going becomes stressful because when it comes to Soa, Taehyung doesn't play and I've experienced the feeling of his fist in my face. It wasn't very fun then, so I'm sure it'll be even more painful now.

"Have you lost interest in my sister?" Taehyung asks again. His feline eyes form little slits as he rakes them over my face. If there's one thing he's aways been good at, it's observing people.

"Tae, what kind of question is that?" I inquire, not knowing how he's come to that conclusion.

It hasn't even been a full day in Seoul yet. All I'd managed to do was visit Soa for a few minutes. It was basically just showing my face because Fei was visiting and there was no way I was sticking around to talk about marriage and children. I'd had enough of the subject.

The whole stay in Italy was filled with lessons on marriage from my father. Sound advice that has seemed to work for him and my mother all these years, but their relationship is different to mine. Mom's compliant and soft, making her easy to comply. Soa doesn't mind telling me my mistakes every now and then.

That's exactly what she did upon seeing me. Stared at me a little, observing my change in appearance with a look of interest on her face. One look at my grown hair and she couldn't help herself by saying: "No wonder you've been giving me playboy vibes."

That same stare is now etched onto Taehyung, only his gaze has no form of teasing.

"Then why can't you answer it?"

"Of course I haven't, Taehyung. I love-"

"Don't lie to me, Jeongguk." Taehyung growls, surprising me once again. "You've been acting strange and I'm not the only one who's noticed."

Jimin ambles into the lounge area, a glass of deep brown liquid in his hand. Only he knows what it is. Behind him is Hosoek, carrying bottles of wine like we're about to get drunk in the middle of the day.

"I'm sensing tension." Jimin mumbles, pausing to to shift his eyes back and forth between Taehyung and I. Hosoek stops, also staring at us in wonder. Because Jimin lives by himself there's no reason to lie.

"Taehyung thinks I'm losing interest in Soa-"

"I mean, he's not wrong," Hosoek starts, taking a seat on the oppose sofa, bottles of wine being placed on the glass table. His hands work at pouring them like the true expert he is. "I've been in Seoul for weeks now, but still my girlfriend and I speak everyday. You went to Italy and ignored your fiance for weeks." He points out, passing glasses around. "So I agree with Tae. You're being highly suspicious."

Jimin turns to him asking when he got a girlfriend. It's not surprising since Hosoek has always loved the idea of freedom. When Soa told me, my reaction was the exact same.

"We agreed to take a break."

"Again, another highly suspicious move." Hosoek cuts in. "If Mary came at me with that, I'd totally not be okay. We're two dating adults, so why the hell are we acting like to teenagers?" Hosoek continues.

Jimin starts laughing. His eyes meet Hosoek with a curiosity that doesn't seem genuine, "Your girlfriends name is Mary?" He asks, laughing again. Hosoek just throws him with a cushion. Taehyung and Soa had teased him about it enough.

The two go back and forth with Jimin asking followup questions on the girlfriend he's never seen or heard of until now.

"The point is, if you're trying to break her heart, please do it now while she's expecting it." Taehyung cuts in. His voice brings us all back to the topic at hand. The seriousness enters the room again. Sometimes I wish Jimin had staff. They'd definitely keep us from talking about such heavy topics.

I frown at the mention of her expecting it.

"I'm not breaking up with her." I answer.

"That was a highly suspicious answer." Hosoek says, raising his brows at me.

He's annoying and in this moment I feel like I'm being attacked. Just the fact that no one is trying to see my side of the story hurts. I know going radio silent for weeks is a reason to expect the worst, but at the same time every couple is not the same. Do people really think I'd throw away my almost decade long relationship so easily?

"Well, we're not the ones you should be telling that to." Hosoek replies.

"And that's on Mary had a little lamb." Jimin butts in.

The both of them fall into a fit of giggles while Taehyung and I stare in confusion.

Over at the Kim Household, I make my way past the front staff being sure to make my way toward the lounge where Mrs Kim is seated reading a magazine. Her red painted nails are a great contrast against the white mug she's drinking from. At the sight of me her eyes bulge, the cup is placed on the table nd she's on her feet in my direction.

"Jungkook, when did you get back?" Her arms pull me in for a hug. One I'm not used to as she's never one to display affection.

"This morning, aunty." I answer, "I came to see Soa, but Fei was here, so I just met up with Taehyung and Hosoek at Jimins."

She smiles, taking in my appearance. It's something I should get used to because I look different. Much more relaxed in a jean and shirt. With my slightly longer hair, I'm sure it gives off a different aura.

"You look great and congratulations on officially taking over. Your mother is very proud." She pats my head. "Soa is in her room, so you can go right up and call if you need anything."

I nod, thanking her before I make my way up the stairs. A bundle of nerves settling in my stomach because I'm not sure how exactly this visit is going to play out.

Facing the door, I allow my fingers to knock softly, still nervous to enter. From the inside, I hear no sound of shuffling or movement and for a second, I wonder if Soa is even home. She could be over at Jin's hotel room or visiting Irena.

Turning the handle, I peek my eyes in. The first thing I'm met with is a photo collage on the opposite wall. The room is dark, so I can't really see what's in it clearly.

Stepping further into the room, I allow my eyes to scan over the bed. They meet the figure of a sleeping Soa. With her hair cascading down her back and her perfect pink pout, I can't lie and say that I haven't missed her. She looks ethereal just laying there in the dimly lit room.

The lighting is a huge contrast from the light outside, but I know she's always loved sleeping in complete darkness.

I walk closer to the bed, careful not to make a noise. Crouching slightly to stare at her face. Black eyelashes kiss her cheeks in a way that makes me want to lean in and kiss her.

It's been too long.

Brushing a hand through her hair, I notice her stirring slightly at the touch. A light sleeper she is. Even the sound of rain could wake her up. The movement makes me smile while I lean in closer, now fully flat on the ground.

I'm sure if anyone walked in here right now, they'd think I'm being a complete creep, but it's been a while since I've just looked at her. She's also gone through changes while I was away. Her usually sleek straight hair is now wavy and makes her resemble Taehyung even more.

I get up, removing my shoes as I make my way to lay down beside her. The empty side of the bed feels colder, but I lean into her for warmth. Being here with her now, I can feel how much I missed her.

"Tae?" Soa shuffles, turning to meet my eyes with her still closed ones. They open slowly, adjusting to the darkness as she stares at me in confusion while I watch as realization kicks in.

"Gguk," She whispers, smiling lightly while her eyes continue to gaze into mine. Brown pools of affection that pull me in. "When did you get here?"

It comes out quietly. Almost as if she doesn't want me to hear it. A yawn escapes her soon after. Mouth moving away from my face while the last drops of sleep pour out of her body.

"Just now," I smile, "Are you still tired?"

She shakes her head no, moving her head to lay on my chest so casually that it catches me off guard. The affection gives me hope that bouncing back won't be as hard of a transition. It makes me kiss the top of her head.

"What was that for?" Soa mumbles, shifting to meet my eyes.

"I just realised I missed you a lot." I answer to which she scoffs, going back to her position. Then says something about us having to talk. My heart drops at the statement because I know this conversation might not be pretty. If anything, we could leave this room crying again.

"I'm going to speak first," She hums, still resting on my chest, voice heavy with sleep.
"I'm sorry for keeping the document from you and being dishonest about it. I know we tell each other everything, but at the time I wasn't thinking." she sighs, sounding full of disappointment, "I'm also sorry for yelling at you and insulting your character. I know it's very different from mine and I should respect that as the man in this relationship you know what's best most of-"

"Baby, I didn't-

"Please let me finish," She shifts, now sitting up and facing me. Her hair frames her face in waves that roll so beautifully, I want to tell her that if there's anyone that should be sorry, it's me. "I've had a lot of time to think on whether or not I want to be with you and my answer is that I do. I want this," Her fingers flicker between the two of us, "And everything else that comes with it. Business stress, scary in-laws and everything else. If you'll still have me, I'd like to be your wife."

I sit up, pulling at her hand while she stares at me fondly. "Soa, baby, I'm so sorry too. On my end, I allowed my lack of communication skills to mess up what we had and I broke your heart for the second time in this relationship. I'm sorry that I didn't allow us to talk everything through instead of taking a break. I'm sorry that I yelled at you. It's not like me, or us and the argument shouldn't have gotten to that point. I'm sorry."

"I still want you, and I would like us to go for couples therapy because there's a lot of stuff we need to unpack that we haven't dealt with personally and in our relationship. Is that okay with you?" I ask, nervous for what she might say.

She nods, pulling me into a hug. The affection makes me want to break down again because I know that if we had this conversation a few months ago, she'd ignore me for days. We've both experienced a lot of growth in this relationship.

"If you ever ignore me the way you did these past few weeks, I'll honestly transfer your shares in my company and retract my investment from yours. Are we clear, Jeon?"
There's a teasing in her voice, but I also know she's capable of doing it.

"I won't ignore you again." I mumble pulling away to look directly at her face. "But I want to make up for the lost time-"

"Say less." She smiles, leaning into my mouth with such force, I almost pull away, but the hand that tugs at my hair has me reacting differently. She keeps me in place, her lips hungrily latching onto mine with a passion I reciprocate.

It's not slow or romantic. It's fast and hungry. The exact type of kiss you'd expect after weeks without any affection. She's all over, her hands reaching to unbutton my dress shirt in one swift movement. I almost stop moving due to shock.

"Where did you learn that?" I mumble, allowing her to remove the fabric and throw it against the floor, while her lips find their place on mine again. Fast. Hot. Passionate. She feels amazing trailing her hands over my chest while her body finds a seat on mine.

"I've always wanted to do that." She mumbles, pulling away to place delicate kisses on my neck. Soft feathery touches that make me squirm in place. We never kiss like this.

"We should stop," I breathe out when she's back on my lips. Placing pecks onto it every few seconds. My face in her hands as she moves in, "Baby, stop." I request, turning my cheek toward her mouth. Only then does she stop.

Her brown eyes linger on mine. There's something else in hers that has me wondering just how far she wants to go right now. With her mother just somewhere beyond the door. For all we know she could be standing right outside it.

"I think that was enough." I mumble, removing her palm off my chest. Leaving kisses on her hands to show that we're still okay, just that we're not reaching any bases beyond kissing.

She falls into me, connecting our foreheads. Her black hair creating the perfect curtain. It's like we're even more in our own world.

"Let's make a baby."

For the second time, my eyes bulge confusion seeping into my veins at the realisation that my supposedly innocent girlfriend wants to create another human being. In shock, I pull away. With space between the two of us, I level her with my confusion. "N-no. Why would you even-"

Soa bursts out laughing, her hand finding my face again, "Was just checking how far that playboy energy goes. Love your new look by the way." She smiles, pecking me again.

At the realization of her joke, I pull her in, tickling her sides in a way that causes her to shriek in surprise. Both of us roll onto the bed, with me towering over her, hands holding into her wrists as she squirms for freedom.

"Why the hell-" Taehyung's vibrato fills the room pulling us both to a pause. The laughter of just a moment before dies down as she stares at us. Both Soa and I don't meet his eyes.

I'm sure he doesn't appreciate the view of my bare back or that fact that I'm on top of his sister. Even I know the position looks very suspicious.

"Mom, Soa and Jeongguk are making babies in your house!" He yells, causing the both of us to pull apart at the statement. Taehyung chuckles, exiting the room while I hurry to put on my shirt. The last thing I want is my mother in law to think I'm here for anything other than spending time with my fiance.

"The two of you better come down her right now!"
