music room

yonghoon wanted to visit his boyfriend before his performance

His shoes echoed off the checkered walls of the barren halls alongside his faint whistles as he steadily made his way towards the music room. It wasn't crucial that he got there immediately, so he leisurely rounded the corner with a spring in his step and the tune of yet another rock song flowing from his lips. Just as he was about to bound down the stairs with way too much noise, his eyes caught sight of the vending machines. 'I really shouldn't...but I haven't had lunch.'

He swerved off course and walked up to the machines; he eyed them with mild interest, as the school's snacks weren't the best but they still hit the spot, until he settled for a bag of spicy chips and a bottle of sweet tea. Odd combination, but it was the only thing he had the money for, and he was planning on giving the tea to his boyfriend.

Speaking of which, he should probably head to the music room now; he's most likely annoyed.

He flew down the stairs before plopping down on the first floor of the school and beginning his casual stroll once again. As a senior, Yonghoon had this power, this authority over the other students and a particular few teachers that he used in his favor. Sure, he was being selfish, but couldn't he at least skip lunch to encourage his boyfriend, he has a performance tonight. So when a student he knew walked past, he'd be sure to press a finger to his lips to shush them from snitching; or when his English teacher would stride past, he'd bow and say he was picking up something he left in the library, which didn't make much sense because the library was the other direction, but she didn't ask.

He wasn't even three doors down before he started to hear the one thing he loves more than his boyfriend's voice: his guitar's voice. Strange, and a bit baffling, but it was something about the way he looked when he strummed a few chords, or the intensity in which he would clutch the neck of the guitar when a really good solo came on the radio, or the habit his fingers have to press random notes whilst listening to a song (even though they're always the wrong ones), or even something as simple the passion that filled his eyes whenever Yonghoon would ask about his upcoming song. He was so fond and found so much adoration for the other's love of creating music, and it made his heart soar when he heard such talents at work.

He didn't feel like knocking today - even though his boyfriend insisted he do so to prevent him breaking another string - for he wanted to see him in his element: all scrunched face, clenched teeth, staggering feet and all. He peeked his head in and smiled when Yonghoon saw just that: a truly immersed Hyungu. He slithered his way into the room, closed the door softly, and watched with utter affection as he struck the guitar over and over.

He held in a chuckle as the song ended, and the reverberation of his guitar sent electricity through Yonghoon; he couldn't explain it, but it sent his body tingling when Hyungu finished a song, as if the notes played stuck him as aggressively as his boyfriend struck his instrument.

"Close your mouth you look stupid."

Yonghoon blinked; he snapped his mouth closed as told and scratched his cheek.

"Squeezing in some final practices before the big day tomorrow?" He wore a bright smile as he crouched down next to Hyungu, who collapsed into his chair after carefully setting his guitar down.

"Gotta perfect it, ya know?" He had his eyes closed, but opened them to glance down at the older. He noticed the drink in his hand, and swiped it from him, jerked it open, and gulped half off the tea before Yonghoon could slip in a word.

"Everything you perform is perfect, Gyu, just know that." He rested his cheek on the younger's knee.

   "Thanks for the drink."

   "Welcome babe."

Comfortable silence and a few gulps of tea, then. "Heard what happened to Harin?"

Yonghoon shifted his head so that his chin dug into Hyungu's thigh. "No, what did he do?"

"Don't worry, he only has minor injuries." The younger grinned when the other's eyes grew twice their size. "Kidding. He got scouted last week for some soccer college, I don't know the name, but he turned it down cause - you know him." He rolled his eyes.

Yonghoon smiled. "I just hope he can go somewhere after graduation."

Hyungu nodded, his hand traveling down to card through the older's hair. He always found it so cute that Yonghoon's hair was frizzy as all hell, but still softer than cotton.

"What are you planning on doing after graduation?" Yonghoon suddenly asked.

Hyungu's hand paused before it vigorously ruffled the other's hair. "I've got another couple months to think about it. Besides," He picked his guitar back up and slung the strap over his head, "I've got better things to worry about." He dragged his fingers across the strings, a faint echo of noise filling the room.

Yonghoon smiled again and stood up, flicking his eyes up at the clock. "Welp, I have to get to work."

Hyungu's shoulders dropped. "Whyyy?" He whined, shaking his head like a toddler. The older couldn't help but chuckle and coo at the boy; he leaned forward and pressed a kiss atop his head, which happened to stop his tantrum.

He looked up. "You've literally only been here for 10 fucking minutes, why are you leaving so early?" The younger gave him his best puppy eyes, which earned him another kiss on the head. "I haven't seen you all day, please stay a bit longer. I miss you." Hyungu nudged the older's hand with his own and began to pout.

Yonghoon would be lying if he didn't say his heart leaped at Hyungu's words and attempt to hold his hand, and as much as he wanted to stay too, he knew the other's tactics all too well. "I'll see you in a couple hours and we can spend the night at my place, alright?" The big, pleading eyes didn't cease; he sighed. "And we can watch The Notebook." His pout disappeared. "And I have ice cream."

The younger made a victorious noise, clapping his hands together and springing up to land a quick kiss upon Yonghoon's lips. He shook his head and messed with the other's hair, to which he swatted at his hand like it was an annoying bug.

"K, I have to practice more, so leave. Have fun at work, don't yell at the customers, and try not to get robbed. Bye love you!"

   "Love you too."

Then, the door to the music room slams shut.
