They talked for a few more hours then called it a day, as they were attracting the attention of some curious individuals who came from word of mouth that two idols were on an outing together. The fans were crowded around in multitudes by the time they noticed and were bringing out their phones to take unsolicited pictures. Even when the musicians put their gear on, the damage was already done, as more and more people came into the cafe.
As they gathered their things to leave, Namjoon stopped Rein with a gentle touch on her arm.
"Let me give you my number," he said, looking around, a paranoid expression on his face. She tried to keep the excitement out of her face.
"Why are you looking around like that?" she asked.
"Just in case the fans hear us... I don't want thousands of people calling and messaging me or anything."
"I think you overestimate your popularity." Namjoon smirked.
"So I'm correct in assuming you don't want my phone number, Ms. Jones?"
"Kim Namjoon, I'll give you ten seconds to put your phone number into my contacts, and if it isn't there by that time, you'll be in big trouble."
He wiggled his eyebrows, and putting in his number as quickly as possible, he said, "I'd like to see what that looks like."
I'm sure you would, Rein thought, then wondered if she was being too sure of herself. However, the way he looked at her earlier justified her arrogance. No matter how much he wanted to pretend there was nothing between them, the truth was too strong to ignore, and willpower was too weak to defend against it.
Namjoon and Rein walked out, both of them somehow knowing they would meet under the guise of excuses once again, just to have each other alone.

The pair met up regularly after the first meeting at the cafe, finding any reason possible to see each other. It started with little visits here and there at various locations, gradually increasing into long nights spent in the private corners of restaurants, cafes long forgotten.
Rein had to wonder if they were simply meetings anymore. Her feelings were getting stronger, and it was clear that Namjoon wasn't opposed to a romance between them. Then again, perhaps he never was, just doing the most professional thing in his circumstances.
What if it really was just a drunken kiss on her part? Why waste time developing an attraction that would inevitably turn into a big mess he couldn't deal with, even if he had the time for it?
But now, there were glances between them that lingered far too long, touches that lasted an eternity. Sometimes they were too close to the comfort, but the distance (or lack thereof, oftentimes) was always just right.
Rein smiled as she looked at herself in the mirror. It was December 17th, her birthday, and though she was a bit put off by the fact that she was not home to celebrate it, she wouldn't have wanted to celebrate it with anyone other than Kim Namjoon, who promised her a trip to the Lotte World for the special day. She was about to set off to meet him when she got a polite knock on her door.
"Ma'am, there's a package for you here," the gruff voice of her bodyguard said. She opened the door, thanking the guard as she retreated back into her room with the rectangular box.
Why is this here?
Rein weighed the box in her hands. It was hastily wrapped with a white paper, and attached to it was a note folded in half. She opened it to reveal neat handwriting who she immediately recognized belonged to be Namjoon's. She furrowed her brows as she read it.
Hey. I'm sorry, but I can't make it for your birthday. Work is kind of a bitch. But, I promise to take a rain check for that Lotte World trip. I'm excited.
Rein sighed.
How did I just know something like this was going to happen? She read the rest of the note, anxious now.
To be honest, I was quite nervous at the prospect of going there with you, but I'm always nervous every time we go out, so I guess there wasn't any difference there.
I know I wouldn't have given this to you today if we had gone. I think I would have been way too embarrassed. No, correction. I definitely would have been too embarrassed to give it to you. So, I guess things worked out in a way.
Again, forgive me, Ms. Jones.
With love,
Namjoon.
P.S., you should listen to "Converse High". It's a good song.
Rein put down the note, incredulous. Did he really expect her to listen to one of his songs after he bailed on her? She pursed her lips; she wasn't too mad at him, as she understood that the personal time he made for her during the weeks was bound to catch up to him at some point. She didn't think the situation happened out of his own accord, anyhow.
As she tore open the wrapping with abandon, she streamed "Converse High" on her speakers, quietly so that the guards wouldn't think she was a maniac for listening to her colleagues' songs in her free time. Inside the box was a pair of red converse, and Rein had to smile at the cheesiness of it all. Of course, he picked the gift to go along with the song.
Your Converse High
Your Converse High
Your Converse High
Converse High
I'm so into your Converse Highs
I can't help it
I'm so into your Converse Highs
I like it so much
Oh, do you now... she thought with a little smirk. Namjoon's verse came on next, so she paid extra close attention.
If I had only one day
I will go see the person who created Converse Highs
Then I'll tell that person, you saved the world
You made that girl born again
F your Chanel F your Alexander Mcqueen
F your Raf Simons, just come here and check it
You can buy two pairs with just 100 dollars, you know what I want
White t-shirt, jeans, and red Converse Highs, that's it.
She frowned and replayed the last line of the lyric again, eyes widening as she did so.
White t-shirt, jeans, and red Converse Highs, that's it.
Red converse... I wear my t-shirt and jeans all the time. Rein blushed and paused the music. She didn't bother playing the rest of the song, for Namjoon's intentions were clear, though she would've preferred him to be here for his own confession.
She looked over at her phone and pondered about what she should say to him.
"Thank you"?
"Yeah, I got your note. I agree, let's just fuck already"?
Opening her texts, Rein typed out a message, not bothering to call in case she disturbed him.
Rein: Hey! Got your gift. I liked it a lot. I'll take you up on that rain check.
Until then.
She set down her phone at the foot of her bed and didn't wait for the response back, Taking off her shoes, her makeup, everything she had done to get ready for the day, she sat in her hoodie, looking out the window.
It wasn't cold enough that day to snow, and instead, sleets of misty water poured down, dropping onto her balcony railing with pit-pats.
Rein smiled.
She always liked it when it rained. Being alone didn't seem so alone anymore.
Happy birthday to me, she thought, clutching the shoes close to her chest.
