{8} Saving Uncle Elijah

[ GIF COMING SOON ]

"You don't have to do this if you don't want to," Hayley said to her two children as she took off Hope's bracelet and Skye's necklace. She wanted to keep both of her girls safe, and she didn't want to force them into doing anything they didn't want to do. However, the girls already had their minds made up on the course of action they would take, on the role they would play in saving their dear uncle from his own mind.

"It's okay. We're not afraid," Hope assured her mother for the both of them in a soft and sure tone. You could tell that even if they were afraid, the two girls would still be doing this. If there's one thing that Hayley has taught them, it's that they're strong and fierce warrior princesses and that they will always be safe when she's around. In this era, women still have to fight harder for half the respect, and you can say this will only be the start of it for the girls. They loved their family too much to let everything be ruined by cranky spirit, or at least that's how Skye saw it.

"Ready?" Freya asked the girls, bending down. Hayley stroked Skye's cheek gently, before both the girls nodded and Hayley pulled her hand away. She handed Freya the two jewelry items and stood, following after Freya and her daughters.

"So he's just in there somewhere, clinging to broken memories?" Hayley asked, as Freya took the hands of her nieces and led them to a table as she bent down to grab a few useful things for the spell. Hayley stood turned away from her daughters as she bit into her wrist, letting the blood cascade down it like a waterfall before holding up a bowl to collect it.

"The core of his being has retreated deep into his subconscious, but, yes, he's still in there," Freya responded, as the girls looked to each other. They seemed to be talking amongst themselves, with Hope assuring Skye that they could do it and Skye ultimately believing that she would mess it up.

"And I just search until I find him?" Hayley asked quickly, looking at Freya as she started to make her way to the girls' mother. Skye rubbed her sweaty palms on her jeans as she turned to Hope, who looked calmer than her and acted like it too. I guess there is a way to tell when a twin is older.

"You don't have time. There are too many memories for you to randomly search. You have to think, where would Elijah find refuge? It has to be somewhere that represents the fundamental basis of who he is. Hopefully, that's a good place. When you find it, draw him out and wake him up. But be careful, his mind is unstable," Freya explained, taking the bowl of Hayley's blood and walking it over to the table where the girls were.

"Mom?" Hope called out, and Skye finished what the two wanted to say, "Be careful." They knew their mother had what it took, she was fierce and relentless and just... amazing. But they also knew that she could be reckless when in the name of family or love, and in this case it's both. She'd die before she'd let Elijah stay in his mind, which meant she might die.

Hayley— had been sat on the floor in the paint drawing — had turned to look at her girls. Freya gave Hayley a look that said that they'd- and she'd -be safe. "I'll be right back, sweeties," Hayley assured her daughters. Soon, Freya had started to chant the incantation for the spell they were performing. Though nervous about it, Skye knew she had to join in with Hope at some point.

"Tillate ulaz. Tillate ulaz," Freya started, as all three of the Mikaelson girls joined hands, with Skye's right hand left out. Soon all three began to chant, "Tillate ulaz. Tillate ulaz..." Even more nervous than before, Skye almost faltered. However, she couldn't waver, her mother was the one the spell was on. She just had to be confident in herself. Skye had finally made it through her worries, when her mother started to flail in the floor.

"Mom!" The girls yelled, as they ran towards her. Their aunt called out for them to stop, but they didn't. They couldn't. This was their mother. Their hero. They'd put their own lives at risk for their mother, even at the ages of seven. "Aunt Freya, do something please!" Hope yelled, sitting down on her knees with her sister. "What's happening to our mother?!" Skye frantically called to Freya, obviously just as worried as her sister was, maybe even more so.

"Hope, Skye, I need you to focus on the spell," Freya called, trying to calm her two distraught nieces down. However nothing could, as the hybrid mother then started to flail even worse than before, which scared her daughters more than they already were. Of course, something had to go wrong... The girls kept screaming for their mother to come back, as if she were completely gone. However, the real reason was obvious. But if they had only known the great peril their mother was facing, they'd know that "coming back" wasn't as easy as it sounded...

"Hope. Skye. If we don't maintain the spell, we could lose her in there," Freya said, standing to walk towards her nieces when the candles surrounding Hayley had brown out, indicating the spell was fading and dying, which could inevitably trap Hayley in there. Freya was just as worried for Hayley as Hope and Skye were, but she knew Hayley was a big girl, and whatever she was facing she'd see it through and get out. That's why they needed to maintain the spell. Freya got down on her knees right in front of Hope and Skye.

"Let us help. We can save her," Hope begged, looking into her aunt's eyes. Skye nodded in agreement, her eyes looking even more pleading than Hope's doe ones. "Please, Aunt Freya. She's our mother," Skye said, and that seemed to sort of finally click in Freya's head as she seemed to soften up. She knew what she had to do now, but she just had to get the girls to cooperate.

"Now, listen, I need you to trust me. This is what we're gonna do. I'm gonna put you two inside the pendant. When you're in there, I need you to call out to your mom. Okay? Now, when you're in the hallway, do not open any doors. Do you understand?" Freya started, her hands on both of the girls' shoulders. She wanted to seem comforting and empathetic, but also serious and stern. Because if this goes wrong, and if they open a door, who knows what will happen to Hayley, or worse, them. When the girls nodded, she did too and finished, "Okay. Okay. Hey. Lay down, okay? I'll see you both soon. Tillate ulaz..."

"Mom? We're here!" Hope called, walking down the white hallway, with white doors, white walls, and white floors. It terrified Skye, but she didn't say anything to Hope about it. She only called out for her mom just as her sister did. Soon though, they heard their names being called by their mother, causing them to jump and turn to the door that was the only discolored and out of the ordinary in the hallway: the dreaded red door.

"Mommy!" The girls both called out loudly in unison, a white light surrounding them. "Mom, can't find you!" Hope called out to them. Hayley had called something back to the girls, however they couldn't hear because it was probably softer than she intended. But they had brought the real Elijah back in that moment. They had saved their uncle.

Hope and Skye's mother soon joined them in a somewhat happy reunion as she pulled them into her arms. "Are you okay?" Hope asked, as the two girls pulled away to study their mother. Even though the two were only children, they took on a caring and nurturing role, just like their mother. That's how they were raised to be of course, to care for one another in a time of need

"I'm okay. I'm okay," Hayley assured them, before looking up at them. Skye went back into the embrace for a moment longer, seeing as she was and always would be a mama's girl. Hayley's arms just felt like home, and Skye missed them in the while she was gone trying to save Elijah.

"Where's Elijah?" Hope asked, and Skye turned when she heard someone walking. Soon, they saw a crueler, gorier version of their uncle standing inside the red door room. He had on old clothes, long tattered hair, and blood covering... everything. He said, "I'm right here." Elijah stepped past the doorframe and there he was, perfectly cleaned up in his nice suit and shoes.

However, still not trusting Elijah after her brief encounter with him just moment ago, Hayley pulled the girls towards her with her arms wrapped around them protectively. "You need to leave. This isn't safe," Hayley whispered, her head bent down to her daughters. It was obvious Elijah seemed just a little hurt, but he understood why she was acting the way she was.

"It's okay. It's me," Elijah assured in a soft and almost choked up tone. He obviously felt terrible for what he had done to Hayley behind that door. That... that monster wasn't him. Not anymore. But if Niklaus could be forgiven for his past, so should Elijah. However, the moment that past harms his nieces is the moment that you can't even forgive someone's past.

"Go home, babies. Tell Aunt Freya it's safe to fix the pendant," Hayley ushered to Hope and Skye, as the girls looked up but walked over away the adults together, joining their hands. Their mother and uncle watched as in a second or two the girls had let a small light grow around them and they were outside of their uncle's mind and back in the room with their aunt. It would've taken longer to get there with one girl, but with the two together helping each other, they could do amazing things in a matter of seconds.

Freya and Hope started to chant the incantation to the spell that would help their two family members wake up, "Leigheas brotin. Leigheas brotin..." Skye, on the other hand, was already sitting with her mother, just awaiting her awakening. Once Hayley gasped and woke up, Hope started to run to her mother, "Mommy!" However, Skye didn't say anything and just embraced her mother, since she had already been sitting there waiting for her mother to awaken.

"You did it. You saved him," Freya said to Hayley, who was breathlessly holding her two children in her arms. Yes, she saved him, but the price was that she had to see that side of Elijah. That violent side. And her daughters had to see him that way for a moment, too. Hayley knew it wasn't worth putting the two people she loved most at risk, but in the end she saved Elijah and both of her daughters were okay. That's all the hybrid mother asked for, really. Mission Save Elijah: success.
