Deception
(n.) A misleading falsehood; the act of deceiving
The star-crossed love of Monrel and Medrial
The birth of the mighty Nephalem warrior was a carking splinter in the Demon King; Eagon's foot. The entire demon population was perturbed. King's own son; Monrel had forsaken the throne and the terrors of hell. But for what? For a forbidden love.
Events on haven were much alike to hell. The high council of heaven gathered on behalf of the treachery done by Medrial the angel. The peace in haven was shattered with the fear of being united with impure creatures of Darkness; Demons.
Monrel knew the consequences of his actions. So did Medrial. but their love was undeniable. Medrial was the light to Monrel's darkness. with that light and darkness, came Enriel, the warrior who was meant to unite the ununitable.
The deserted land of Havenhell, the bridge way between Haven And Hell was the only shelter for the cast out. Monrel managed to hunt down the lost trail of the forgotten castle in Havenhell.
"Monrel, you and I both know those rickety barriers won't protect us for long," Medrial told to her lover as she fed baby Enriel.
Monrel paced back and forth in the cold chamber of the forgotten castle. The dark energy of his spirit unfolded through the air.
"But it will slow them down." Monrel's distraught voice rang through the room.
"For how long?" Medrial snapped.
Monrel stopped pacing and sat himself down next to Medrial.
"I don't know, my love. But we will find a way to send Enriel to the humans." Monrel assured.
Medrial sighed, embracing little Enriel. Her silvery locks framed her pale face as she stroked the baby's head. Her icy blue orbs were lost in thoughts. Monrel couldn't help but fall in love with those blue eye's again and again.
"We will get through this together, darling." The demon prince tucked a strand of hair behind the lady angel's ear.
"Together?" Medrial gazed into Monrel's flaming eyes.
"Together." Monrel smiled.
Monrel's smile disappeared the next moment. He moved away from Medrial and Enril in a brisk and stood next to the closed wooden door. His enhanced hearing caught the sound of a pair of feet.
"What is it?" Medrial was alarmed.
Monrel brought a finger to his lips and disappeared into the darkness. Medrial closed her eyes, concentrating on her angelic enchantment, conjuring her silvery wings and wrapping them around baby Enriel and herself.
A moment passed in silence. Medrial could hear the rhythmic beating of baby Enriel's heart.
"Medrial, it's Alrik. Come out." Monrel's voice came through the thin wall.
Relief flowed through Medrial's veins. Alrik was Monrel's mentor, the only one who knew about their eccentric love all along, the one who guided them to the forgotten castle. Medrial stepped out of the chamber, Enriel in her arms. Her lover stood next to a distressed man with a scruffy beard. Like any other demon born, he had flaming eyes.
"They are coming." Alrik breathed out.
"Who? Demons? Angels?" Monrel questioned.
"Both my prince, both. You need to get out of here." Alrik pleaded. "A complete regiment of Demons are on the way. If the rumours are correct, there'll be angel troops too."
Monrel put his arms around Medrial. "What are they going to do Alrik? Kill us? Imprison us?"
"I'm quite not sure sire. Your father has been unbelievably quiet about the situation. But I heard the ancient rituals have begun in heaven and they won't let the Nephalem warrior escape."
"No" a sob escaped Medrial's lips.
Monrel didn't know what to do. If the rituals have already begun in heaven that means they have charged Medrial for treason. And his innocent child would have to pay the price for their mistakes.
"There's no proof that prophecy meant my little Enriel." Medrial frowned.
"The child is half-demon, half-angel and that's enough for them," Alrik stated.
"But they won't find us. No one knows about the Lost trail." Monrel uttered as a comforting to Medrial.
"Let's hope so." Alrik nodded.
*****
Sun had set. Medrial stayed with Enriel as two Demons guarded the castle. In the dawn, they will leave the castle and travel to the human world.
Monrel stood in the highest tower in the castle, securing his scythe in his hand.
"My Prince," Alrik called the young demon. "What's on your mind?"
"Was it a mistake, Alrik? loving Medrial?" Monrel gripped his Scythe tighter.
"I don't know my prince," Alrik answered solemnly. "Love can make you do strange things. And you, my prince, renounce The Throne for love. I believe it's yours to decide whether that was a mistake or not."
Monrel let out a weak chuckle and stared at the night sky. "Will father ever forgive me?" He asked from the older demon.
"your father loved you dearly. Unlike any other demon, he gave you all his love. Though I'm uncertain about his future actions."
Monrel nodded. He loved his father, but his love for Medrial overpowered it.
"Promise me Monrel, when you reach the human world, keep an eye out for the angels."
Monrel frowned at the sky, shouldn't he be cautious of both Demons and Angels.
"What do you mean Alrik?" Monrel asked. But the answer never came. Instead, a pair of wings flapped in distance.
He averted his eyes to his mentor. Horror struck him at the sight before him. A trail of blood descended down Alrik's chest; a dagger slicing through his chest. With a blood-curdling scream, the older demon burst into flames.
Monrel ran into the castle as the flapping sound reached him. The only thing that came to his mind was his lover and baby Enriel.
"Medrial, the angels have found us," Monrel yelled across the abandoned hall.
"I know Monrel." Medrial stepped out of the chamber with Enriel.
Monrel's eyes widened as two more angels stepped out after Medrial. He recognized one of the angels as Biatria, Medrial's companion.
"Step away from them," Monrel warned the angels.
"We have no intention of harming her, you vile demon." Biatria spatted.
"Why should we harm her?" Another angel sneered. "If it weren't for her we wouldn't be here."
Monrel couldn't believe what he just heard. Medrial didn't meet Monrel's eyes. Her blue eyes that he fell in love with, were filled with guilt. He gave up everything for her and she betrayed him.
Biatria swung her blade at Monrel but the young Demon warrior jumped away from it. The other angel followed Biatria's lead and attacked him. Monrel attacked them back and blocked their every attack with his scythe. His scythe had never let him down. He hoped it would do the same this time. But he wasn't sure. After all, everything he trusted had betrayed him.
"You are just delaying your death, demon." Biatria snarled. "Soon, I'll destroy you and the half-demon."
"You promised my child will be safe." Medrial shrieked at Biatria's words.
"That is no child. That's an abomination." Biatria attacked Monrel again.
Biatria was a powerful and skilful angel. She escaped Monrel's deadly scythe. Finally, Monrel managed to slice the other angle.
"How dare you." Biatria threw an angel blade at Monrel. He rolled away, missing the blade by an inch.
"Arg-" A soft voice yelped.
Madriel.
Monrel pivoted his head. Medrial's ivory dress was turning to Scarlett, Enriel still in her hands. Medrial had saved the baby but she was not fortunate enough.
The world crumbled at Monrel's feet. Medrial did betray him, but he never stopped loving her for that. He kneeled beside the dying angel.
"I-I'm sorry, M-Monrel. I d-didn't mean to h-hurt you. S-Save E-Enriel. I-I'm sorry." With her last breath, Medrial apologized. For the first time in Monrel's life, a tear slipped down his eyes. At that moment, all their blissful memories felt surreal to Monrel.
"Oh! Don't you cry, little prince!" Biatria snarled "You'll meet her soon."
She lifted her blade to the sky. Monrel had already lost his interest in living. His lover had left him. But no, he had to live. He had to live for Enriel and protect her. He promised Medrial that he would.
With a blink of an eye, he lifted his scythe, slicing Biatria once and for all. Biatria had no time to realise what happened, she fell lifeless.
Monrel wiped his tears, scooping Entrial to a hand, gripping his scythe in the other. His mentor was gone. So was his lover. But he was going to protect his child, even if he had to kill every angel and Demon in Havenhell.
Monrel walked out of the castle, bracing himself to fight an army of angels, but there was non. At least no living ones. Dozens of angels were lying dead on castle ground.
Monrel's demon eyes caught a glimpse of a figure, fading away into the darkness. A sad smile crossed his face.
And in that Dawn after Deception, Monrel and Enriel left Havenhell, never to be seen again.
