"Koushi, all I remember is a blue umbrella! I don't even know what he looks like."
"Maybe actually take the time to do that, Tooru."

He's been playing in the sun for a while now. His skin getting tanned by the rays of the bright ball of light above him. He ran through the playground grass, chasing the other children around, not caring if they got dirt on their clothes. Innocent laughter and joy filled the small playground near the picnic area.
That was a while ago.
Now, huge droplets of rain fell from the sky, landing harshly on any surface they landed on. One surface being the uncovered head of a chestnut-haired boy. He cried helplessly, looking for his mother who went to the bathroom just before the rain fell. He rubbed his eyes, vision blurry due to the millions of droplet flowing down his cheeks, including the rain. He sobbed and sobbed but it seemed like the other children and parents around have gone away, enjoying the warmth of their cars and homes, heads covered by umbrellas and roofs.
Until his head was covered by an umbrella.
The little boy stopped crying, looking up at the brilliant blue above him. Shading him from the gray, wet sky above him. The umbrella was opaque, free of any marks and peeks of the chaotic ceiling above. The little boy was so distracted by the brilliant umbrella that he didn't notice the kind stranger slip the umbrella into his hand and walk away. Only when a bigger body than his enveloped him in warmth did he come to his senses and stop staring at the beautiful blue umbrella.
"Tooru! Oh my goodness, I am so so sorry. Thank God you're safe," she sighed. "Come on, let's go home, okay?" She scooped him up in her arms, careful of the umbrella Oikawa was so invested in.
Little Oikawa simply thought:
Who owns this?
---
Oikawa is in his first year of high school and he is loving it here. Everyone loves him! And all he had to do was be born pretty. It wasn't that hard.
But there was always that feeling, that memory at the back of his mind. He was looking for someone. Someone who owned a certain something. That something leaned against his cabinet, always there to greet him when he woke up. That opaque, beautiful, blue umbrella. That umbrella saved him. That person saved him. And he wants, needs to find that person.
Hanamaki strutted up to him, slinging his arms around the browned-haired boy's shoulders. He's dyed his hair pink. It suits him.
"Yeesh, Oikawa. Way to round up the ladies on our first day. You're officially the school's heartthrob now." He laughed, leading the other male to his class.
"Nonsense, Makki. They just think I'm cute. I think." Oikawa's eyebrows furrowed, confusion clearly written on his face. Makki snickered beside him.
"Well, we've reached my stop. Head to your class. You don't want to be late on your first day. Shoo, now." Makki pushed Oikawa towards his classroom, sending him a tiny wave on his way inside his own class.
Oikawa rushed to his classroom, making it there in time for him to sit down and relax until his teacher arrived. His eyes swept across the room, taking a look at the many students around him. As his eyes slept passed the door, a boy with spiky black hair passed by, looking slightly irritated. Oikawa shrugged and continued to study his classmates, eyes darting all around the cream-colored walls of their classroom, windows overlooking the grounds put at one side of the room. A whiteboard sat in front of the classroom, in front of all of the wooden armchairs filling the room. A desk at the side of the board, presumably the place where the teacher will be staying. Oikawa smiled.
"This feels nice."
The teacher walked in and class started, Oikawa intently listening with a small smile on his face.
---
Oikawa entered the cafeteria and sat at the table Makki sat at. He was sitting with two other guys, both with dark hair but the other one seemed taller and calmer. The one beside him seemed grumpy and stumpy but still tall. He looked like a rock honestly.
He smiled at the two, taking out his milk bread.
"So you're the Oikawa that every girl has been obsessing about," the tall one inquired, taking a bite of his sandwich. In return, Oikawa huffed. Why did everyone say that?
As he munched on his milk bread, he glanced at the other man. He looked relaxed, probably because he was sketching something. Oikawa took a peek. It was of an umbrella. For some reason, it looked really pretty and triggered some memories for Oikawa. He smiled and tapped the man on his shoulder. "What's your name?" he asked politely.
The man looked up at him, unfazed and uttered something just for Oikawa to hear. "Iwaizumi Hajime." Oikawa smiled and motioned at the sketch.
"That's really pretty. You're talented," he complimented, putting a small smile on Iwaizumi's lips. He thanked him and continued sketching while Oikawa watched, awed at Iwaizumi's sketch.

Classes had ended a while ago but Oikawa was still on campus. Because it was raining. And he was terrified. Ever since that day at the playground, he has been horrified by rain. Just hearing it made him alert.
Until he wasn't so scared anymore.
Because a beautiful umbrella covered his head. It was like the exact one from years ago, but bigger. But still beautiful.
And he ended up staring at it for too long, snapping out of his trance only when Makki came bounding up behind him. "Yo! Where'd you get the umbrella?" Oikawa stared at him for a while, comprehending the question. Then his eye went wide.
"Ah! A-ah, I don't know?" he stuttered, blinking up at the umbrella he was holding. Makki squinted at the other male and made him fidget. And then he laughed. An obnoxiously loud one. Now Oikawa had an irritated look on his face and started walking away, taking the umbrella with him.

"hEY! DON'T LEAVE ME HERE YOU TWAT!" Makki screamed, running towards Oikawa with full speed, almost bumping into him. He positioned himself under the umbrella. Oikawa sighed and chuckled.
"Yes, I know I'm stupid. I didn't see who it was. Again." Oikawa smiled bitterly at the protection from the rain above their heads.
The boy beside him rolled his eyes and sighed. "Yeah. I know. You should really do something about that." The other sighed and nodded, suddenly determined.
But first, to Sugawara's.
---
He reached Sugawara's house after dropping off Makki at his house. Oikawa often came here so he just removed his shoes, put the umbrella to the side then let himself in. He bowed at Mrs. Sugawara in respect and she smiled at him and let him know that Suga was upstairs. He then made his way to Suga's room. He let himself in and flopped onto Suga's bed. Said male was at his desk, reading something. He jumped, startled at the sudden presence.
"Tooru! Learn how to knock?" he sighed, getting up to close the door.
"Pass." Suga rolled his eyes then made his way to the other mae, sitting down beside him. Oikawa groaned and Sugawara knew what this was about.
"So it's raining," he jested, waiting for a reaction. And a reaction he got.
"Yes, Koushi. I met him-" Suga interrupted him with a cough. Oikawa rolled his eyes. "I met the umbrella again. It's downstairs."
Suga sighed. "How are you so hypnotized by an umbrella?"
"It's a beautiful umbrella, okay?"
Suga chuckled. "I'm sure it is."
They sat in silence for a while. Until Oikawa groaned and Sugawara chuckled.
"Koushi, all I remember is a blue umbrella! I don't even know what he looks like."
"Maybe actually take the time to do that, Tooru."
Oikawa sighed. He should do that.
---
This was the only time that Oikawa was thankful for the rain. He beamed up at the sky, giving it a thumbs up. And right on cue, an umbrella appeared before him. But he turned his head to his right, avoiding the beautiful blue.
And was met with a beautiful black. Black orbs that pulled him in and made him feel things. Then he took a look at the whole picture. And was he surprised.
"Iwaizumi?!"
Iwaizumi stared at Oikawa, equally as shocked as the other was. Oikawa saw color rise to the other's cheeks and he laughed. Iwaizumi furrowed his eyebrows and frowned.
"Here. Just take it." He looked away and stuck his hand out for the other male to take. Oikawa's laughter died down quickly. He smiled softly at the male in front of him.
"Thank you." Iwaizumi's head whipped towards Oikawa and looked even more confused. Oikawa's smile widened. "You're the one with the blue umbrellas, obvously," he motioned to the one above his head, still being held up by Iwaizumi. The latter rubbed his neck.
"Well, yeah. Obviously," he mimicked, wiggling the umbrella around. Oikawa smiled. And then hugged the other male. Iwaizumi stumbled back, flustered at the sudden contact.
"Thank you."
Iwaizumi smiled down at him, feeling the body heat of the other male against his body. It made him feel all fluffy inside.
Oikawa let go of Iwaizumi soon after. He took a hold of his hand and pulled him along. Iwaizumi just went with it.
Soon they reached their houses, Oikawa finding out that Iwaizumi lived right across from him.
"I never knew my hero was right in front of me."
"Well, now you know."
The 'original' blue umbrella stayed with Oikawa but he never used it. Because Iwaizumi was his umbrella.
His beautiful blue umbrella.
