𝘈 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘖𝘧 𝘔𝘦 (𝘕𝘺𝘢 𝘹 𝘙𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘳)
Note: this is a Nya x reader where the reader inherited the power of wind and joined the ninja team. I barely see any Ninjago girls x readers, so I thought this would be fun.
Water's like a sword. Used to grant a golden child the title knight, or send evil to the bottom of the abyss. Even the moon glared down at it with a sparkle of hate in its eyes. Water is power. I took a breath before emerging myself in the freezing water. Goosebumps spread across my body, and the cold was electrifying. I propelled myself forwards, my eyes on the horizon. It was like weights were tied to my heart, like pain was psychically weighing me down. I kicked relentlessly, my destination in my mind.
I'd left her. Ironic how I had to cross the thing that reminded me the most of her to reach getting over her. I just needed to reach the tower and see her one last time, before...before she was gone.
It was all my fault. I could have been with her, and this never would have happened. I could have used my powers, I could have helped, maybe she wouldn't be at death's door with an invitation she gave herself. Water. It surrounded me. My head sunk beneath the liquid and I struggled to keep it above. I felt my heart getting heavier with every stroke I took. I gasped for breath, reminding myself I needed to do this.
Nya, the love of my life, was going to die. I'd read about how Nyad had done the same exact thing, and I knew Nya. I knew what she was going to resort to to save the city in the sea. I had to get there and stop her.
When she and the ninja went out to fight Wojira, Nya convinced me to stay back on the roof. I hadn't listened. I'd ventured into the deep to find any survivors and bring them to safety. Fifteen people rescued, sent up to the rooftops to finish their life happily, without dying this way. Chills ran down my spine at the thought of what would happen if they'd sunk to their eternal resting place.
I'd ended up on the other side of the city, and finished saving citizens, when I remembered. I knew what Nya was about to do. I knew, and my raspy breaths couldn't be heard over the roaring of the storm. A wave came behind me, and I turned to face it, gasping. Adrenaline surged through my chilled bones and purple-tinted skin, causing a boost of speed. I was pulled under by a current, but managed a weak backflip to send myself back to the surface.
The wave crashed down on me. I'd sunk so low I failed my arms recklessly to try and return to the surface. My hair whipped in my face, blinding my view. I lost track of up and down, panic overtaking me. I moved my limbs like a penguin waddling, the force pushing me towards the top layer of water. My eyes lit up with hope when I saw Borg Tower. The pain in my legs was overwhelming, my eyes stung from exposure to the liquid, and my right hand was numb, but I had to make it. I was like a second grader on their first swim lesson, doing anything I could to get closer to the structure.
I reached the tower, and pulled myself up with just one hand. My legs ached, causing me to wince in pain. My arm felt like it had been stabbed, but I held my grip. I scaled the building with caution, due to the slipperiness. I hadn't accounted for that. I gripped each window pane with a foot or arm so I had something to hold. My face was pale, and I could tell my body didn't have much longer until I passed out. I clutched the ledge of the roof and held on for dear life, and pulled myself over the top. I laid on the ground, panting, while Nya came towards me.
"Y/n, you're here," she smiled sadly. I couldn't hold it in any longer. A tear welled up in the corner of my eyes. She lifted her delicate hand and gently wiped it away, and scooped me up bridal-style in her arms. The ninja and their Sensei gathered around us.
"I love you," I choked out through sobs. It was like all the water that floated into my lungs during the swimming mission was coming back out.
"I love you too, y/n," she reminded me. "Shhhh," she whispered, "it'll be ok." I buried my face into her torso, inhaling her familiar scent of strawberries. She ran her thumb across my cheek lovingly, and I wished I could keep her touch forever. She kissed me gently, her lips lightly moving in sync against mine. She set me down and sat on the floor beside me, enveloping me in a hug.
"Remember that I love you," she bid me goodbye before she became her transformation. It was hard to see through the blinding waterfalls of tears, but I heard her. I squeezed my eyes shut, willingly it all to disappear, drowning out the sounds around me.
"Y/n," a voice whispered to me comfortingly, and I felt tiny raindrops land on my head and slide down my back. I kept my eyes closed, I couldn't handle saying goodbye.
"P-please don't do this," I sobbed.
"I love you," the voice replied simply.
"I...I love you too," I managed to say, my voice tinted with a bittersweet feeling. My entire body was soaked down to my bones, my hair was twisted into knots, and water ran down my face as I realised I missed her already. Water.
"That water was....water is Nya now," I reminded myself aloud. I wiped a tear with my hand, feeling the cold sensation of being wet on my fingertips, and I held my drenched hand to my heart. A small smile crept onto my face through the streaming tears.
"A part of you will always be with me."
