Chapter Forty-nine

Mia Collins was my girlfriend.

That was the sentence that my brain had consistently been repeating at random intervals for the last two hours. And every time, I thought about it a natural smile lifted to my lips against my will.

Okay fine, the smile was far from natural it probably looked psychotic, but I just couldn't help it. I might as well have won the damn lottery from how ridiculously unreal this whole situation was.

In less than twenty-four hours, I'd gone from torturing myself to keep away from her (and failing), to nearly losing her, to now walking with my hand placed snugly around her waist as my girlfriend.

The whole thing was just bizarre and in all honesty, my brain was still struggling to understand the impossible puzzle of how the fuck I'd managed to get her to love me. Witchcraft, perhaps? All, I know was I wasn't going to question it too hard – miracles are miracles.

Especially, when those miracles, are as hot, and irresistibly beautiful inside and out as Mia Collins.

Curving my fingers, a little tighter around her waist at that though I tugged her closer to me as we made our way down the trail to our cabin.

That was the other thing. For the last two hours of our hike, since confessing in the woods, I couldn't seem to keep my hands to myself. My hands found every excuse in the world to graze her hip when I was laughing with her, to put a hand on the back of her neck when we were waiting around. To touch her hands for literally no reason. To sneak a kiss on her shoulder when nobody was looking. I'd practically become addicted to touching her.

I'd become so addicted in fact that the moment our group had stopped to eat, I might have slyly snuck her away with me, and made out with her heavily against a nearby tree. The girl simply had to look at me, and it was enough to set me off.

God knows I was used to wanting her, and badly at that, but I was far from used to immediately acting on those feelings, and man did it feel good.

Upon reaching the cabin, I opened the door and reluctantly slid my hand free from around her waist. "After you," I said, nodding for Mia to enter before me with a smile.

She smiled, her eyes sweeping over me with a gleam in them. It was a flirtatious look if you ask me. She made a step to enter the room before suddenly pausing. She stared at me for several seconds in an interrogative-like manner before slowly narrowing her eyes.

"You just want to look at my ass, don't you?" she said flatly, her lips curving up slightly.

I paused, realizing she'd successfully been able to detect my shameless plan. I was trying to be polite as well, but sue me, I also wanted an excuse to have a good look at her from behind.

I cleared my throat. "That obvious?" I said, my lips edging upward.

"What do you think?" she said pointedly, her eyes still sparkling and doing that thing that made me want to kiss her. Then on that final word, she marched ahead of me and through the open door.

I wish I could say I was a gentleman, and didn't check her out slowly from head to toe from behind as she entered, but unfortunately, I was no gentleman.

As I closed the door, I scanned around the cabin and realized that by some beautiful stroke of a miracle, nobody else was back yet. Don't get me wrong, normally I'd be happy to socialize but not today. Today, I selfishly wanted Mia all to myself.

I watched as Mia strode ahead of me, and threw her backpack on the floor before collapsing dramatically down onto the sofa.

"I'm so hungry, they barely feed us at this stupid place," she sighed.

Chuckling at her statement, I rounded the side of the sofa, and took a seat beside her, not bothering like I used to, to keep a respectable distance between us.

"How do you think I feel? You stole half of my lunch; little miss greedy pants?" I teased.

And stole it she had. Earlier, I'd been bragging about how good my big cereal bar had tasted, and the next minute, I only had half a snack bar hanging out my mouth. She'd snapped it right off and ate it. I

wish I could say I had some pride, and tried to fight back for it, but I didn't. The moment I saw her smiling, and chewing happily away, I went weak.

Mia thew me a playfully spirited glare, then crossed her arms. "It's your fault for eating so slow, I was just trying to teach you a lesson on the importance of eating fast," she argued.

I raised an amused brow. "Excellent, I'll keep that in mind, the next time you're eating slowly," I said with a smile, knowing automatically I was going to strike a nerve.

Mia gave me a fierce glare, one that I wish I could say didn't ignite interest and something I'd rather not say in my stomach.

"You'd be instantly dead to me," she snapped.

My lips curved upward, sensing a challenge. "Really, now?" I proposed, my eyes dipping fleetingly to her lips to tease her.

Mia's eyes rocked between mine slowly, her throat sinking in sharply. "Yes," she stated confidently. Well, it would have sounded confident if not for the slight shake in her voice at the end.

"I'm not sure about that. I can think of a million, wonderful ways I could make it up to you," I whispered suggestively as I inched a little closer to her.

Her eyes significantly darker now swirled with passion, and her lips parted for a second, then closed, as she no doubt imagined those wonderful ways.

I was sure as hell was imagining them. Daily, in fact.

She swallowed again. "I'm not that easily seduced, Ethan," she stated firmly.

Locking eyes with her heatedly, I placed a firm hand on the armrest by her shoulder and leaned over her fully, blocking her into the corner of the sofa.

I saw her visibly shiver, as her eyes focused on mine before drifting to the muscle of my arms that were flexed under my weight. I internally smiled smugly.

I moved my lips down to her neck and brushed against the skin with the bridge of my nose. "What if I was to do this?" I whispered as I placed a feathery kiss underneath the base of her ear.

She shivered under my touch, and it drove something in me insane. My hands clawed the armrest as I tried to restrain myself. I trailed my lips up her neck, and over her jawline painfully slowly; tauntingly.

"And this?" I whispered with a smile as I kissed her cheek, lingeringly this time. A soft breath escaped past her lips.

"Or maybe even this?" I said teasingly as I pressed my lips against the very corner of her mouth.

"Would you still be mad?" I whispered smoothly, not allowing myself to stray too far from her lips.

Mia hesitated for a second. "I...er....I don't-," she paused. "Ugh....just shut up and kiss me already," she groaned in frustration.

I smiled victoriously, the sound like music to my ears. As you wish Chubs," I whispered as my eyes dropped down to her lips. I swallowed hard, then leaned close, obliterating the distance between us.

"Yo, yo, yo, anyone home?" an obnoxiously loud voice yelled.

Mia and I both jumped a little in shock at the sound of the booming voice. The cabin door swung open and in walked Lucas and May. Realizing, exactly who had yelled that annoying interruption, I glared.

That cock blocking motherfucker...

Between my annoyance, I processed Lucas and May's eyes widen in shock, and their eyes swirl over in confusion at my position leaning over Mia on the sofa.

I knew why they were confused, but I was too stubborn to move or bother to explain. I wanted to kiss Mia, godamn it.

"Holy fucking shit," May yelled as she dropped her bag dramatically down to the floor.

This seemed to drive Mia into action, and she scrambled to put a hand on my chest and then shoved me off of her hard.

I barely saved myself from rolling onto the floor, and just about managed to twist in time and sit up properly. I frowned in annoyance, realizing this had to undeniably be the 100th time she'd had to shove me away from her because of someone annoying barging in.

Mia cleared her throat sharply and then quickly adjusted herself, so she was sitting up properly

She flashed them a friendly smile. "Hey guys, how was the hike?" Mia asked cooly, in a poor attempt to redirect the attention away from us.

"Forget the fucking hike. What the hell is happening here? Lucas called out with a quirked eyebrow. I didn't miss the looks he was giving me in particular that consisted of him smirking like hell at me, and giving me proud best friend eyes.

The door opened again for a second time, and this time Chloe and April sauntered in.

"What's going on?" Chloe asked as she looked around at everyone in confusion.

I let out a heavy sigh, knowing any chance of picking things back up with Mia any time soon was non-existent. Mia, on the other hand, looked less annoyed and more embarrassed and sank lower into the sofa.

May turned to Chloe with a knowing smile. "Well, we just walked into the cabin and found Ethan and Mia about sucking each other's faces off," she stated matter-of-factly.

Chloe let out the highest of high-pitched squeals and started jumping up and down. "Oh my god, finally," Chloe yelled, her eyes widening in Mia's direction.

I couldn't help but be amused by this reaction, my lips curving upward. Also, did she say finally? Did that mean Mia had been talking about liking me for a long time with her friends? Interesting. Very fucking interesting. My lips lifted incredibly higher, as did my ego.

Mia a lot less amused, groaned and buried her head in her hands. She didn't dare look in my direction, clearly embarrassed.

I chuckled softly. "Okay guys stop, you're making Mia embarrassed," I mumbled with a smile.

When Mia had finally lifted her head, Lucas stepped forward, his eyes narrowed in on me suspiciously.

"Wait, so just to confirm, you guys are actually, together, right?" Lucas said slowly.

"Yup," I stated confidently, smiling smugly.

Lucas let out a breath of laughter. "Yeah, I'm going to need confirmation from you too, Mia. I don't trust, Ethan, he can be a little delusional at the best of times," Lucas stated flatly.

My mouth dropped open at his rudeness, then I quickly shut it again, realizing the man, had half a point. Lord knows keeping up a lie to my grandma for three straight years that I was dating Mia was something on the scale of delusional. And I'd gotten really creative with that shit as well. I'd made up a crap ton of fake stories about our relationship and stuff. It was bad, bad.

Mia rolled her eyes at Lucas, but I hadn't failed to notice her lips lift amusedly at the mention I was delusional.

"No, Lucas, Ethan's not lying," she said with a laugh.

Lucas's face then warped into an excited grin. A scarily excited one that filled me with a natural dread.

"Finally, I have so much tea to spill," he stated happily as he bounced over to us and squeezed him into the minimally small distance between us. There was so little space, in fact, that he half sat on our laps before I was forced to shuffle over to accommodate him.

Then, suddenly I processed what he'd just said. Tea to spill? My heart leaped up into an immediate panic, the warning sirens in my head blaring away.

"What the hell are you talking about?" I asked as I looked over at Lucas in immediate suspicion.

"Well, I just thought dear, Mia here deserved to know all the embarrassing shit you've said about her over the years," Lucas chuckled with an evil smirk.

I froze, a chill shooting up my spine as I processed truly what that meant. "No, no, no. Shut up. You can't Lucas, don't do this to me," I rushed out desperately.

Lucas completely uncaring, just chuckled and patted my knee pityingly. "Ethan, don't beg honey, it's not cute."

A pit of dread settled in the depths of my stomach realizing how fucked I was. Lucas knew a lot of shit and bad shit at that.

For fuck's sake the first conversation I ever had with him at twelve, consisted of him seeing a sketch I'd drawn of Mia creepily from across the classroom. A drawing in which I'd boldly branded her my future wife.

Not only that but that man, knew far too many times I'd embarrassingly got a boner because of her. He knew I had fucking wet dreams about her for years. He knew I hoarded a worrying amount of bobby pins, hair bands, and whatnot that I'd pulled from her hair over the years. And don't even get me started on his knowledge of my ten-year plan.

He knew too much.

Mia to my absolute horror, sat up instantly straighter on the sofa, seeming very intrigued as she smiled over at Lucas. "I'd love to hear what Ethan's been saying, please continue," she said as she leaned forward on her elbows in intrigue.

Please kill me.

"Where should I start...," Lucas said as he rubbed his chin in thought.

"Oh, I know your first kiss. He called me straight away, you know. The poor guy sounded so excited over the phone. I was one hundred percent sure he must have wet his pants," Lucas laughed.

Actually, change of plan, I was going to kill that snitching motherfucker first, that's what was going to happen.

Mia looked over at me, her eyes sparkling as my face no doubt got progressively more red. "Did he now?" she called out, her smile growing.

Lucas chuckled "Yeah, he kept saying stuff like, 'It was so much better than I imagined,' 'I can't believe he kissed me back', Do you think she likes me," Lucas said as he impersonated me in one of his stupid overly deep jock voices.

I gave Lucas the dirtiest of looks.

Mia started laughing hard, her shoulders shaking aggressively, seeming more amused by the expression on my face than anything else. Everyone in the room was laughing as well, except for April. Perhaps, she was the only one who felt sorry for me.

Lucas smiled once more. "And oh my god, there was also this time-"

"Okay, that's enough," I said interrupting him quickly, afraid of what he would say next.

"But I was just getting to the best part," Lucas pouted.

"Well, I could always share with May a few stories of my own, if you'd like," I said warningly as I threw a threatening eyebrow up in challenge.

Lucas paused, and slowly his smile slid from his face, as he considered the true meaning behind my words. Just as Lucas knew a lot of embarrassing shit about me, I knew a hell of a lot about him. If not more. I could match him, embarrassing story for embarrassing story.

"Well, looks like story time is over, I guess," Lucas said with a nervous laugh as he rose to his feet.

He rushed over to May and grabbed her by the arm and started hastily pulling her away after him, clearly wanting to get her away from me.

It was a smart fucking move.

Mia turned her head and playfully glared at me. "You're so annoying, I wanted to hear that," she complained.

"Well, sorry, I'm not sure if I'd have any balls left by the end of his little speech," I scoffed.

"Aww, you guys are adorable, you're like an old married couple," Chloe cooed.

Mia raised an instant eyebrow at this. "He literally just mentioned his balls. Not a typical old person convo, if you ask me."

"Hey, Mia could I talk to outside quickly? April asked abruptly.

I looked towards her in surprise as did Mia. I had barely noticed April throughout our whole conversation and was severely confused why she would want to talk to Mia alone. They weren't close friends at all. I'd hardly even seen them talk at all.

Mia smiled politely. "Yeah, sure of course."

Mia started to climb up off the sofa, but I quickly stopped her from getting too far by wrapping a hand around her waist.

"What?" she asked as she looked down at me with wide, confused eyes.

"Goodbye kiss?" I asked, with a smirk, knowing full well I was being greedy. It wasn't my fault really, she was hard to control yourself around.

She rolled her eyes, but I could see her lips lift higher. "I'm only going outside for two seconds, you idiot, but whatever, I'll humor you," she said with a smile as she leaned down and pecked me on the lips.

It took all the restraint in the world to not pull her in for a deeper kiss, but knowing that would be an uncomfortable thing to do with an audience present, I managed to let her go.

She threw me one last smile before jogging towards the door to where April was waiting for her.
