Chapter Fifty-two/Fifty-three
The steady vibration of the engine sharply cut off as the coach came to a steady stop in our school
parking lot. I'd spent the past three hours sat next to Mia while trying to find sly ways to trick her into calling me her boyfriend.
My efforts were met with absolutely zero success, of course and she seemed as vigilant as ever in her desire to torture me. She even decided to rub it in multiple times that I couldn't kiss her, by doing purposefully seductive shit throughout the entire journey. Everything from the way she decided to slowly eat the icing off her cupcake, to the way she repeatedly and slowly kept applying her lip balm near to ever damn time I looked at her lips, proved to me she knew exactly what she was doing.
With a sigh, I watched as Mia threw me one last satisfied smile before hopping off her seat and making her way into the aisle to file off the bus with the rest of the students. She was enjoying this far too much.
I pressed my lips together stubbornly, wanting to drag her back into our row, and kiss her the way I'd been thinking about doing for the last three fucking hours.
Once we had gotten off the coach, and we'd collected our bags form the bag storage, I stepped towards Mia with what I hoped was a seductive, please let me kiss you kind of smile. Clearly it wasn't because before I even got close, Mia smiled then proceeded to blow me one of those pathetic air kisses goodbye before turning away.
I struck into action almost immediately. "Oh no you don't missy," I said as I grabbed a hold of her wrist and hauled her back to me. I deserved better than that after being riled up purposefully for hours on end.
"Missy?" Mia laughed, amusment shining in her eyes.
"Whatever," I said with the roll of my eyes. "I'm not sure what that flying kiss crap was, but I want a proper goodbye kiss," I snapped stubbornly.
Mia's eyes rocked between mine with a flirtatious smile, before her eyes dropped to my lips. Finally, she was seeing reason. Smiling in relief, I grabbed a hold of her chin and leaned in to kiss her.
Just at the last minute, Mia jerked her head and my lips landed on her cheek instead. I groaned in frustration, and pulled away.
Mia looked up at me with a far too smug smile to her face. You know the rules, Ethan. I'm not your girlfriend until you ask and no kissing until then," she teased.
I threw my arms in the air. "You already are my gilfriend," I cried in exasperation.
Mia simply laughed. "Goodbye, Ethan," she called out in song.
Then turning on her heel, she walked quickly off before I had sense to grab her and headed towards Chloe's car where her friends were waiting for her.
I glared off at her, with narrowed eyes. She looked over her shoulder briefly as she walked, then laughed hard when she took in my vexed expression. Oh, so she thinks this is funny, does she?
My eyes narrowed further.
She soon climbed into the backseat, and the car soon pulled off and drove out onto the road beside me. I caught Mia in the window as she went by, and I gave her a smile before pulling my hand out my pocket and presenting her with my middle finger.
Yes, I know, loving boyfriend of the year award, goes to me.
Mia's mouth parted almost immediately, and she shook her head at me. I bit back my smile at her expression, and watched as the car retreated away.
Just as I was about to turn around, and try and find Lucas, a gentle hand suddenly landed on my chest.
I turned in surprise, and found April staring at me with a startling wide smile while stepping too close to me. Definitely too close.
"Hey, Ethan," she chirped happily, with a slight laugh. I smiled awkwardly out of politeness then took a step backwards, hoping she'd drop the grip she still had on my left pectoral.
"Erm...hey," I mumbled with a lot less enthusiasm.
Not seeming to take the hint, she stepped closer. Her hands trailed from my chest to my bicep, where she squeezed. I recoiled in surprise.
"I just wanted to know, some of us are going go skinny dipping later tonight. Me, some guys, and a few girls form the dance team. Wanna come?" She asked, as she looked up at me, with widened slow blinking eyes.
I jerked away from her immediately, feeling more than uncomfortable now. "You know, I'm dating Mia, right?" I asked slowly, my eyes narrowing. I
was sure she'd been there when we'd told everyone we were together so I couldn't understand why she was still fucking coming on to me. Most girls seemed to get the message the first time I politely said no.
"Yeah, so? It's just a little nudity Ethan...don't let Mia force you to be all boring now..."
I blinked once then twice. "Erm...I'm going to walk away now...," I said slowly.
Then turning around, I ignored her calls for me to wait, and quietly speed-walked off towards where I could see Lucas in the distance, waiting for me.
Forcing myself to push the incident from my mind, and the bubbling feeling of anger that was threatening to spill out from inside of me.
She was just simple an annoying girl – that was it. Nothing worth getting angry about. With those reassuring words bouncing around my head, I made myself drop it.
---------------
It was Monday afternoon and after several painful hours of getting through the school day with dragging lesson after lesson, I found myself walking through the corridors after school in search of a certain someone.
I really shouldn't have been this anxious to see her, considering I spent all lunch chatting with her, but I just couldn't help it. And despite my rather unsubtle methods at lunch, she still hadn't fucking kissed me yet, so I needed to go find her, so I could try my luck.
Soon enough, I spotted Mia's beautiful, and all too distracting silhouette in the distance. My eyes locked on her high ponytail bouncing lightly as she busied herself with putting books neatly back into her locker.
I smiled immediately, and unable to hold myself back, I wrapped both my arms around the small of her waist, and pressed her into my arms.
She jumped in surprise, just like I was expecting her to as I sunk my head into the crook of her neck.
Then clearly realising it was me, she relaxed, then angled her head to look at me with a smile.
"Hello, sexy gilfriend," I whispered against her ear, causing her to lightly shiver. She chuckled lightly, then turned in my arms to face me.
Our faces were now inches away from each other, and that was the only inspiration my stomach needed to dip. Her eyes flickered over mine amusedly, a teasing smile on her lips. All I knew was that the smile was turning me the fuck on. Knowing I needed to kiss her before I combusted, my eyes dropped to her lips, and I found myself leaning in.
Just as our lips brushed, her two hands landed on my chest, and pushed me softly away from her. A heavily frustrated sigh escaped my lips as she continued to lightly push me back.
Pure-and-utter-torture. That's what this was. The only reason I'd lasted six long years not kissing her, was because I'd never done it before. Now that I'd done it, it was practically constantly on my mind.
She shook her head at me slowly, her smile not leaving her lips. "Your statement was half correct, you're right that I'm sexy, but I'm not your gilfriend."
Then like she wasn't killing me insid, with the cruellest form of torture that there was, she winked at me.
I rolled my eyes. "I can't believe we're still playing this game," I mumbled in a long sigh.
"It's not a game. I'm serious," Mia said, despite the fact the smile on her face was stretching wider by the second.
Of, course she was loving this. My eyes fell subconsciously down to her lips before I forced them away. "Please, Mia, I just want to kiss you," I mumbled honestly.
Her eyes brightened. "And you can as soon as you ask me a certain question," she sang playfully.
"No," I snapped stubbornly. Call me a baby, but I was still determined to win this. I was a competitive bastard and I couldn't help it.
Mia just shurgged, uncaringly, her smile never wavering. "That's fine with me, I quite like being single. I wonder if Henry is busy. He was hot, wasn't he?" she suggested with a mischievous smile.
My heart dropped as she stepped off to the side of me, as though she was about to go look for him.
My smile vanished in a second, and I immediately reached out to grab a hold of her wrist and tug her back.
"Hey, that's not funny," I scowled, remembering all too well how eager Henry was to snatch her up. I'd faked stopping interest in her for all of one damn second, and that bastard was first in line to replace me.
Mia's brow plucked up amusedly. "What made you think I was joking?" She looked up at me with a challenging spark in her eyes.
Her closeness, the sexy expression in her eyes, and the threat were all to much, and before I knew it, I spun her around and pinned her sharply up by the lockers, too riled up to care about the potential spectators.
"You're my girlfriend, not his," I mumbled stubbornly by her ear.
Mia let out a heavy breath, seemingly trying to recover from her brief shock. "Well, I could be all yours, if you just ask me a certain question, she sang persuasively.
I glared at her for a few seconds before I felt my resolve crumble, and my posture softened.
"Okay, fine, whatever. You win, Mia," I mumbled in defeat, knowing there was no way I could keep this up while still maintaining my sanity.
Mia smiled in triumph, like she'd just got through winning a war.
I was just about to spit out the words, and ask her to be my gilfriend (despite the fact she already was) before I suddenly paused. Maybe I could make this a little more entertaining for myself...
I quickly grabbed a hold of her hand, and intertwined her hand with mine before getting down on one knee.
Several students hanging out around their lockers turned to look at us with shocked expressions the second, my knee reached the ground.
I tried not to laugh, when Mia's eyes widened by several factors, clearly terrified that I was going to propose to her in highschool. I mean, don't get me wrong, I was obviously going to propose to her one day, but certainly not today.
"Erm...Ethan, Get up. What the hell are you doing?" she mumbled in embarsssment, as she looked anxiously around at the various students who were whispering, and lightly laughing.
"Well, since you've forced me to do this, I might as well have some fun with it by humiliating you, of course," I answered with a wink.
Mia's mouth instantly fell open.
Smiling up at her, I cleared my throat dramatically.
"Mia Gabriella Collins, or as I liked to call you Chubs, you're the most beautiful, sexy, smart, funny, kinda weird, worryingly crazy, and incredibly annoying girl I have ever met. Will you do me, a simple boy, the honour of being able to call you my girlfriend, forever and always?" I called out in a poetic sounding voice.
A wildly happy smile instantly stretched out onto Mia's face. "Aww that was so sweet, you're adorable," she mumbled as she held up a hand to her chest.
Despite the fact I'd rather have been called sexy, then adorable, I climbed to my feet in relief, glad all this evil no kissing bull-shit was behind us.
Suddenly Mia's smile, dropped sharply from her face. "But sorry, no," she snapped bluntly.
Barely registering what she'd just said, I stepped towards her. "Finally, I'm so glad all this shit is...wait what! What the fuck did you just say?" I repeated frantically, suddenly replaying her words back in my mind.
My heart rate instantly skyrocketed, and suddenly my breaths felt short in my chest. She said no? How was that possible? Was this whole liking me thing a prank? I guess it would make sense after six long years of taking the piss out of her, but she seriously couldn't be mean enough to pretend this whole time. And surely-
Suddenly her laughter broke through the air, and looked up at her, I saw her giggling a little too hard as she tried to keep herself together.
"I'm kidding, you idiot. Of course, you're my boyfriend," she mumbled in between cackles of laughter.
The tension instantly left my shoulders, and I felt like I could finally breathe again. "Jesus Christ, you scared the shit out of me," I muttered under my breath.
I threw her a dirty look, or tried to but my lips kept betraying me as I tried to fight back a smile.
"You're such a bully," I snapped accusingly, as I grabbed a hold of her and started to tickle her side. She shrieked and frantically tried to dodge my hands.
"Okay, I'm sorry, Stop," she begged as I continued my merciless assault. With a chuckle, I finally eased up.
Then grabbing a hold of her hands, I pinned them up by her head by the lockers and looked her up and down slowly.
Mia's eyes dipped to my lips with a smile.
"I think I'll collect my prize now," I whispered proudly before finally lowering my lips down to hers.
I leaned into her with a groan, my stomach going wild, as she kissed me back. My hands melted from the wall so I could run my hands up and down that beautiful fucking body of hers. I was vaguely aware that I shouldn't technically be doing this in a public place, but hey I'd argue it was Mia's fault for riling me up.
"Get some, Ethan," A deep voice called out, following by a string of wolf whistles.
We broke apart in surprise, and as I looked over my shoulder, I saw a few of my dumb fucking soccer friends walk past while hooting and whistling at me.
Lucas had wasted no time, in blabbing to everyone and their mother that I'd quote 'finally stopped being an idiot, and asked Mia out like I should have done ten centuries ago."
Now, naturally everyone was using every opportunity to take the piss out of me, more so than normal.
"Save some of that energy for the big game, Ethan," one of them called out with a laugh.
I rolled my eyes, my cheeks burning in embarsssment. "Shut up," I yelled, as I flipped them off.
They just cackled and walked off like idiots.
I turned back to look at Mia, who's face was turning a light shade of red.
"Sorry about that, they're fucking idiots," I chuckled as I scratched the back of my neck awkwardly.
"So, this big game, huh?" Mia probed curiously.
"Oh yeah, I almost forgot to tell you. It's on Friday, and you're coming. It's your first duty as my gilfriend," I said with a wink.
"Yippie," she spat drily, the sarcasm dripping heavily off her tone.
I smiled, knowing Mia was the furthest thing from a sports' fan.
"Trust me, it'll be fun, they'll even be a celebration party afterwards," I sang persuasively.
"That confident you're going to win, are we?" she teased.
"Well, duh, I'm on the team," I scoffed.
She shook her head at me in disbelief. "You don't know what modesty is, do you?"
I laughed. "Oh, you mean the thing that people who aren't good at things need," I joked.
Mia opened her mouth with a smirk, clearly about to hit me back with another jab before she suddenly, paused seeming to remember something. Her smile slowly slipped from her lips, and she suddenly seemed preoccupied with nervously fiddling with her fingers. Why the hell was she nervous?
"Oh, since you're here, do you want to come round to mine to study?" she asked quickly, her tone strangely high-pitched.
Suddenly focused on what she'd just asked, my brow instantly lifted in intrigue.
"I was going to go to the gym, but I think a study session with you sounds far more exciting and might provide me with equally as much exercise," I answered while looking her up and down slowly with a smile.
Mia gave me a flat look. "No, Ethan, I mean study, study. You know with books and shit. Get your mind out of the gutter," she snapped, as she smacked me upside the head.
I let out a long groan, realising 'study session' wasn't actually a cute code for let's hook up with each other for hours. As boring as studying was compared to making-out with her, she was technically right, and I did have homework to do.
"Okay, fine...I'll drive," I sighed.
Mia smiled and pushed herself happily off the locker and walked alongside me as we made our way into the parking lot.
As we walked Mia suddenly cleared her throat, and threw a nervous look my way.
"Also, would you perhaps mind staying for dinner?" she mumbled quietly.
I stopped in my tracks, and turned to her with narrowed eyes, instantly suspicious. "Why do you sound so nervous?" I asked slowly.
Mia threw me a big guilty smile. "It's because my dad wants to talk to you. He kind of knows we're dating...," she trailed off awkwardly.
I immediately stopped breathing, and a hard lump formed in my throat as I truly released the weight of how fucked I was.
No, no this was bad, bad, and I'd somehow been stupid enough to forget about the giant problem that was Mia's dad. The last time I saw that man, he threatened me to not kiss, touch, hug or even so much as look at his daughter the wrong way, and now it was pretty damn fucking obvious I'd more than disobeyed everything on his fucking list. He'd literally trusted me to take her on a platonic overnight trip, so now that had suspicious written all over it.
He was going to literal kill me. Shit, wasn't he a cop... Yeah, I'm definitely dead.
I opened my mouth to say something, then immediately closed it again, realising there was nothing I could do to make this better.
I swallowed nervously. " And...how did he take it?" I asked slowly.
Mia let out a nervous laugh. "Well, he swore a little bit, but he didn't threaten your life or anything, so I think that's a good sign," she said, as she nodded her head enthusiastically.
I fidgeted nervously with my car keys, still struggling to breath properly.
Mia gave me a gentle smile. "You don't have to come if –"
"No, I'll come," I said determinedly. "I'll need to win him over eventually so it might as well be today."
Exhaling a deep breath, I decided I was going to win over her dad tonight, or I was going to die trying.
