"hey, uh, can you pass me a cigarette?" ethan asks a random guy next to him at a bar. "actually, can you pass me two?"

"what you do to her?" the man asked. ethan shook his head in disagreement. "what'd she do to you?"

"she just starting drifting away from me. one day she was just acting normal and the next she was a completely different person," ethan sighed. he lit his cigarette and wiped at his eyes.

"so, she's bipolar?" he questioned.

"no," ethan shook his head. "it was different than that. she stared out as a distraction, i guess. but then i started falling for her. and the last thing that i wanted was for any of us to get hurt. i hurt people before, and i didn't want to hurt her. and i don't usually smoke two cigarettes, i don't even smoke," he laughs. "but i knew there was another guy. when i told her a joke and she didn't laugh. i knew that there was someone else."

"sounds pretty tough, man. what was her name?"
