ethan was conflicted with his feelings once again. he and y/n had been together for five years and their whole relationship had been a rocky ride. of course he loved her but he didn't know if she loved him in return.

before he left for work, he let y/n know how much he loved her by saying "i love you, i hope you have a good day" and giving her a kiss on her cheek. she smiled at him but never truly said the words back. ethan knew she had issues saying the word but he didn't push her into it.

although, one night several months ago, he accidentally found himself checking her phone to like his own instagram pictures when she got a text that broke his heart.

random guy: i'll see you later baby

y/n: okay, i love you so much babe

random guy: i love you more

and of course when y/n heard the ding of her phone she knew she was fucked. ethan calmly handed her the phone and walked out. she didn't even try to fight for him to stay, she just let him go. ethan had time to think about it and when he went back home they fought and he forgave her because he loved her. ethan didn't know how to stop loving her even when she cheated on him, he couldn't bare to see her go.

he didn't know how to love her without completely hating himself.

maybe that's why he was holding on for so long. he had never been confident in himself. all his life, he let other people walk over him like he was garbage but he wasn't. ethan was a force to be reckoned with. so when he found himself packing y/n's things, he couldn't have been any prouder of himself.

"what the hell is all this?" y/n asked concerned as she watched ethan toss her things into a suitcase.

ethan ignored her and emptied out her side of the closer. finally, he would have somewhere to put his gucci.

y/n grabbed ethan's hands. "baby? what's going on? talk to me."

he ripped his hands out of her grasp. "don't call me baby. get out of my house, now."

"b-but ethan! what did i do? is something wrong? talk to me like an adult, dammit!" y/n screamed.

"you're right," ethan angrily grinned. "here's what's going on. you cheated on me. you fucked another dude behind my back and im tired of you. you gave yourself to someone else before me and i won't stand for it. i refuse to be your second place, y/n. im better than that. now get your stupid shit and leave." y/n gaped at ethan who was wearing a smile. he zipped up the suitcase for her and pushed it to her feet. "you know what to do with it." and with that, ethan left the room feeling the weight of the world off of his shoulders.
