ethan walked up to the podium and you could hear your fiancé sigh. you thought it'd be a good idea to invite all your closest friends and family to your rehearsal dinner to prepare for your wedding that was only days later. he was always your best friend and you wanted him there more than anyone.

you hit his arm. "don't be mean."

"he's still in love with you. how do you not see that?" your fiancé whispers angrily at you.

you look away and focus on ethan. he could feel his palms sweating as he stared at you.

"um, hello. my name is ethan, im the best friend of the soon to be bride, y/n and im here to just, dawn on some memories." in the back of his mind, he could hear grayson's words repeating constantly.

this is your last chance to do something, just get her back.

"well, i wanna first say how happy i am for this wedding to take place. im so glad that y/n can finally be happy with the guy she loves the most. and to you," ethan points to your fiancé, "treat her right. treat her better than i ever could cause' she deserves it more than anyone."

your fiancé growled under his breath.

"and coming here and telling this toast is painful, because y/n, even though you may not love me how i love you, i just want you to know that you were always it for me. and im sorry i couldn't be the one for you. i just wish your happy, with whomever that may be. and i realized that maybe, just maybe, im supposed to let you go and let you be happy. because you deserve happiness and love and the world. and im sorry i couldn't give that to you."

he got off the stage while staring at you. feeling your eyes water up, you stood up and rushed over to ethan. your fiancé rolled his eyes and shook his head angrily.

"eth," i-"

ethan shook his head with tears prickling his eyes. "don't. i want you to be happy, y/n. so be happy. don't worry about me. i'll be okay," he sent you an uneasy smile but he squeezed your hand and you let him slip away.
