11 - Separation

"Rena? Why are you crying?"

Lyn came up to me and pulled me into her embrace before wiping my tears. Her voice was soft as she tried to pacify my sobs.

"Tell me, what happened?"

I sniffled before burying my face into her neck.

"T-Taehyung..." Sniffle. "He broke up with me."

"What?!"

I showed her the message he just sent me when I was about to go to sleep. He told me that I didn't mean anything to him and he didn't want me anymore.

Why did he say that all of a sudden?

I thought that he really loved me...

I couldn't believe what was happening.

It hurt so much...

"How dare that son of a bish do this to you?! Give me his address! I'll make him pay for what he's done!"

My sobs only grew louder at her outburst and I shook my head before leaning in further to find some kind of comfort as that was the only thing I so desperately needed.

My chest was being squeezed, making it harder for me to inhale. I hit my chest repeatedly, trying my hardest to breathe.

"Did he lie to me all this time?" I whimpered, clutching her stained shirt. "I don't believe it, Lyn. Please tell me he's lying. Please..."

She only rubbed my back and held me close to her without saying anything.

♾♾♾

I couldn't believe my eyes.

I stopped on my tracks when I saw Joohee and Taehyung walking together.

"So where do you want to go after school today?" She held his hand and walked to the school beside him. "How about going to the movies?"

He smiled down at her and suddenly kissed her cheek, making her squeal and giggle.

"What is this? He already has another girlfriend now?" Lyn fumed beside me.

Taehyung heard her and turned his head to look at us.

His eyes fell on me.

I couldn't read his expression as his eyes looked dead and lifeless.

He stared at me for a while before turning away and walking towards the school, leaving without saying anything.

He wasn't joking.

He really didn't have any feelings for me.

We really did break up, didn't we?

"This fuc-"

I grabbed Lyn's hand to stop her before she could stomp towards them and do something unnecessary.

I shouldn't care about who he goes out with now. We were no longer together. I should mind my own business and let him do whatever he wanted.

He doesn't love me...

He doesn't love-

Tears streamed down my cheeks and I felt weak. I felt nauseous.

I couldn't handle it.

I didn't want to break up with him.

I was a fool to fall in love with him.

"Let's go in," I whispered softly and wiped my tears before forcing myself to walk.

♾♾♾

I couldn't eat anything.

How could I? When they were sitting together and feeding each other, being disgustingly lovey dovey with each other?

Instead of going in, food was threatening to come out of my mouth.

I was on the verge of breaking down.

"Don't let it get to you, Rena," I whispered to myself and took a spoonful of my meal, shoving it into my mouth. "He is nobody. No one you should care about."

I could see him glance at me before turning away from the corner of my eyes.

Is he really this cruel?

Dumping me just like that as if I'm nobody and then running off to another girl in less than a day...

How could I just accept that with no explanation whatsoever?

I stood up from my seat, causing Evelyn to look at me surprised, and walked up to him as anger started seeping into my mind.

The curly dark haired girl looked up at me and Taehyung followed her, his eyes gazing at me in confusion. From his expression, I could tell that he was displeased with me coming up to him, wanting to say something.

"What do you want, Rena?" His voice was distant and cold, just like that time he was angry with Joohee.

I did my best to draw in a breath under his piercing eyes and returned his glare.

"Why are you being like this, Tae? Did I do something wrong for you to act like this? Don't lie to me that I didn't mean anything to you."

I blinked back my tears, not wanting to show him that I was hurt.

"Something must have happened to you. Was it that meeting you had yesterday? Is that why you're being a totally different person like you are right now?"

He only stared at me, not saying anything. His sharp glare was faltering a bit at my pained expression.

"What were you hiding all this time, Tae?"

Before he could say anything, Joohee suddenly interfered in our conversation.

"You guys already broke up, why are you interrogating him right now?"

She stood up and pushed my shoulders, causing me to take a few steps backwards due to the force.

"A guy like him would never love a girl like you, Rena. Accept the fact that you were just a temporary entertainment for him and leave us if you have even a tiny bit of self respect inside yourself."

I couldn't say anything.

I couldn't accept it.

My trembling knees were about to fail me and let me drop to the floor soon. My mind was blank.

"What the heck do you think you're doing, bitch?" Lyn yelled from behind me and grabbed my hand. "Let's go, Rena. Don't associate yourself with trash like them."

Before she could pull my hand, Taehyung replaced hers with his and ran out of the cafeteria with me.

"Taehyung!" Joohee's voice kept yelling at a distance and eventually faded away.

"Let me go!"

I struggled to free my hand, but with no avail. His grip was too strong that it started to hurt me.

We came to the backyard of the school that was our secret hideout. There was no one around at that time. After giving me some time to catch my breath, he let go of my hand before facing me.

"I did lie to you, Rena."

I widened my eyes at him. "Y-You what?"

"I lied to you that you didn't mean anything to me and that I didn't need you anymore." He rubbed his forehead in frustration and sat down on the ground. "You're right about something happening and it was because of that meeting."

"T-Then..." I crouched down before him. "Do you still like me?"

He suddenly pulled me into a hug and buried his head in my neck.

"We can't be together, Rena," he whispered softly. "Don't make it hard for me, please... This is for the sake of both of us. Forget me and live without me. I'll only be the cause of your misery..."

I broke the hug and pulled myself back to see him crying in my arms.

"I don't understand what's going on, Tae," I stated before wiping his tears with my sleeves. "Tell me what's happening. Why can't we be together?"

He shook his head and grabbed my hands to push them away from himself. "Just do as I say and you won't get hurt."

Standing up, he took one long look at me before saying, "I'm sorry," and left me there on the ground.

Without a single clue on what was happening.

He didn't show up in class after that and never picked up his phone or responded to my messages.

The next day, the teacher told us that he transferred to another school in a different country.

When I asked her where it was located, she didn't say anything.

That's how he left me.
