Chapter 4: Home

-Peter's POV-

"How was your weekend Peter?" Michelle asked me cautiously.

"Fine."

"Just fine?" Ned chimed in, taking a bite from his sandwich.

"How the hell do you think it was?" My voice cracked. This weekend was probably the most terrifying thing that had ever happened to me.

"I'm sure Y/N wouldn't want you to be sad, Pete."

"She used to call me Pete," I whispered.

"Oh! Oh, I'm so sorry-"

"I have to go. I can't be here."

"Wait!" Ned and Michelle called after me, as I swiftly removed myself from the table.

"Peter," a girl's voice spoke while she placed an arm on my shoulder.

I tilted my head back, to see Gwen Stacy.

"I'm so sorry about Y/N. It's terrible."

I lost it.

Tears started rolling down my cheeks, and I shrugged her hand off of me as I ran out of the cafeteria.

"This is all my fault. She's gone...because of me," I mumbled, pacing around the hallways.

Ignoring the yells from my friends, I left the school without looking back.

I can't be in there without her, without seeing her, or touching her.

It's too much.

~~~
"Why did you leave school today?" May asked, sitting down beside me on my bed.
I was facing the window, I had just been staring at it for hours. And crying.
"I miss her, May."
"I know, I do too. But you have to be strong for her right now, ok? Do you think she'd want you to be skipping school because of her?"
"No," I muttered, wiping my cheeks with my sleeve.
God, even my sweater smelt like her.
"Oh, honey, do you want to be alone?"
"No, I want to be with Y/N," I cried, more sobs escaping my throat.
"It'll all be ok, trust me, it'll be fine," May whispered, rubbing my back until I fell asleep, too exhausted to keep thinking.
~~~

The next few days were the same, I was so lonely without her. I'd been visiting the new Avengers Facility, just to look at her things, and I would occasionally just lie in her bed and cry.

Mr Stark was upset too, he was even more broken. I tried my best to comfort him, but all he did was push me away.

It was pretty much the same for me over the next week and a half, when the field trip got only 5 days away.

Wake up, go to school, come home, go be Spider-Man, sleep, and then repeat.

I was especially dreading the trip now because of how excited Y/N was. She was really looking forward to it. And I'm part of the reason she isn't here right now.

-Day of Field trip-

"This is going to be fun Peter, don't worry," Ned assured me.

"Thanks, dude," I tried to smile back, but it was hard pretending to be happy.

"Yeah. We'll be with you the entire time," Michelle agreed.

We were waiting at the front of our school, for the buses to arrive.

Ned would crack a few jokes here and there, and it lightened my mood a bit.

But it didn't last long.

"God, I wish Y/N was here, she would've loved this," Ned laughed, out of breath as the 2 buses finally pulled into the parking lot.

My face fell, and I looked over to him.

"No, I, sorry-" He stuttered, realizing what harm he had just done.

"Dude?! What the fuck? You know he's not over it yet," Michelle whisper/yelled.

I made my way over to one of the railings, leaning on them to try and control my breathing.

Not breaking down in front of everyone is not a very easy thing to do.

I closed my eyes, because there were tears threatening to fall from the corners of my eyes.

"Damnit, Peter, hold yourself together," I told myself, gritting my teeth.

I heard faint whispers coming from around me. Assuming they were making fun of me, I ignored them.

"Uh, Peter-" Ned tried to say.

"Oh my god, what the hell-" People said, along with "Is that-"

"Just leave me alone for a minute, Ned, please."

"But Peter-" Michelle joined in.

"Not now," I exhaled heavily.

"Pet-"

"Holy shit, what?" I exclaimed.

I looked between the two, before my eyes settled on someone who had joined them.

I gasped, my mouth parting slightly.

"Wha-what are you doing here?" I said, barely loud enough to hear.

"I came back early."

"What, why-you did? You're home?"

"Obviously, I mean I'm standing right here," They laughed, scratching their neck.

"Y/N I was so worried, I missed you so much," I smiled, running towards her.

She returned the smile, and jumped into my arms.

"I missed you too. I love you so much," She whispered into my ear, pulling at my hair slightly.

"I love you too," I kissed her temple. "Are you ok?"

"I'm ok," Y/N smiled, pulling away. "Pete, I'm so sorry."

"Don't be, it wasn't your fault."

"Yeah, but I should've gotten help."

"You did get help. And it looks like Shuri did an amazing job," I grinned, sliding my hand under her sweater to feel where the wound used to be.

"She did. Wakanda is beautiful, Peter, we should go sometime. Oh, and Bucky's ok too."

"Good, that's good," I smiled widely as I lent down, and pressed a soft kiss on her lips.

I sighed, finally feeling a wave of relief rushing over my body.

"You got back just in time for the trip, too," I laughed, as we started to walk to the buses.

"Yep."

"I don't think you were gonna miss anything anyways, babe."

"I missed that. You calling me babe. I know it was only a few weeks but it seemed way longer."

"Well, I'm glad you went."

"Hey!" She said, looking offended.

"You know what I mean. If we hadn't flown you over there, you might've not made it, Y/N."

"I know," she sighed, resting her head on my shoulder. "Sit beside me on the way there?"

"Of course."

(A/N): Hey guys...sorry I've been gone fore so long. I think I kind of just needed to step back for a bit, since I wasn't really 'in the right state of mind.'

Anyways, Infinity War is coming up real quick!
