She's been drowning
in the sea of the scars
that mark not only her body
but her heart and her soul too

He's been trying to survive
the ache they left him with
it burns him inside out
lashes at him agonizingly
it's quickly engulfing him in
he realized a little too late
the world's nothing but
a pit of quicksand

Salty rivers cascade
down her cheeks
screams and shouts
fill up the thick
blanket of the night
they're the gunshots
and they've been
hitting her heart
since the start

He's holding his breath
trying hard not to struggle
it's unbearable
the pain
the suffering
in the silence of the night
he wonders out loud
if death's the only way
for it all to end

At the break of the dawn
she glances up at the sky out
through her window
she whispers out silently
to the world
when her life would
truly begin

He imagines the scarlets
from the cuts in his hands
drip down the carpet
in his living
a thousand times a day
each time a drop drops
he envisions the second
being his last

She wants the pain to end
He wants it all to start
till it all ends
with a last breath
