THRASHED

Didn't her rights count?

Was she less human?

Less human to be treated worthless?

And why is it her
who felt ashamed
of herself
even when it wasn't her
who did something
horrifically

morally
wrong?

The salt in the ocean
meets the salt in her eyes
the bitter cold ocean
gurgles inside her throat
but
the physical ache
couldn't be compared
with the emotional ache she felt

Why is it her who is

Shivers of disgust

horror
and
pain
they claim her now
raking up and down
her shriveled soul
