Eternal Night - Chapter 21

The night draped around us, shrouding our desires and uncertainties in its cool embrace. As our clothes relinquished their hold, slipping away like echoes of our former lives, the intensity between us deepened. I traced the contours of Scott's chest, my fingers memorizing the cold, smooth landscape of his new existence. His skin was a testament to the transformation he had undergone, a canvas on which the complexities of his hybrid nature were written in delicate lines.

He held a finger up to my lips, silencing my concerns. "You saved my life," he said, his voice resolute. "They were going to let me die, but you gave me a chance at this new existence. I may be a hybrid, but I'm alive because of you."

I knew this was when most women would cry. I wanted to. His finger was still on my lips. "Scott," I said, my voice a whisper, "what we are, it's not going to be easy. Especially all of the bureaucratic red tape."

His fingers lingered against my lips for a moment longer, and then his hand dropped to the sheets beside us.

Our lips met once more, a delicate meeting of worlds that had collided unexpectedly. The kiss was a blend of longing and newfound appetite, a merging of essences that spoke of shared experiences and a journey that had only just begun. The passage of time seemed distorted, a fluid concept that bent to the rhythm of our intertwining souls. Scott's fingers grazed my skin, igniting sparks of sensation that trailed like whispers down my spine.

His touch was commanding, sending shivers through me. The contrast between our cool skin and our bodies was striking. Sighing into our kiss, I explored his form, as if learning the stories of his existence.

We slowly pulled away from the intense kiss. Our eyes met, a hunger for more still lingering between us. The air was charged with a potent blend of desire and the unmistakable allure of the supernatural.

Scott's eyes glinted with a mixture of amusement and longing. He tilted his head slightly, his fingers brushing against the side of my neck where my pulse should have been. "You always did have a way of making even the forbidden feel irresistible," he mused.

I laughed softly, "I guess that's one way to look at it."

Scott's gaze intensified, his fingers curling around my waist possessively.

I pushed back a little. "Are you sure this is what you want to do?"

"What? Yes, of course. Why wouldn't I?"

"Scott, as much as I'm enjoying this, this isn't you. Or, at least, human you."

He grasped my hands. "That me is gone. I feel like an entirely new person. I'm not afraid of things like I was before."

My breath hitched as Scott's lips brushed my neck. I closed my eyes, relishing the sensation.

Our breaths fell into sync, a rhythm that echoed the pulsating night around us. The world outside faded into insignificance as we explored the connection that seemed to defy the very essence of our preternatural natures. It was as if Scott and I were the only two entities left in existence, adrift in a sea of unexplored emotions.

His lips brushed against my earlobe, a whisper of sensation that sent shivers dancing along my skin. "Do you always feel like this? Like time just doesn't matter to you?"

"Yes," I breathed, my voice a hushed confession, "it's as if every moment is suspended and lasts forever, neither past nor future, just an eternal present."

He shifted beneath me, a fluid movement that seemed to echo the grace of his new form. His lips met mine again, and the kiss was a declaration—a melding of desires that painted our passion against the canvas of the night.

"You know, I had a dream like this once," he said, his voice heavy.

I laughed again. "I can assure this is no dream," I whispered back, my fingers tangling in his hair, pulling him away from me for a moment, "But it's not all it's cracked up to be either. This can be a lonely life."

"Lonely? We have each other now."

It hit me hard. I wouldn't have to be alone.

As our bodies moved, a symphony of desire played out in the spaces between us. The sensation of his cool skin against mine sent ripples of sensation through me, each touch igniting a fire that burned within the depths of my being.

"Tell me," he said, running his fingers up and down my back, "can you feel the way our essences resonate, each note harmonizing in a melody that's uniquely ours?"

I gasped as his touch sent waves of pleasure through me. "Yes," I admitted, my voice tinged with longing, "it's as if our very souls are in sync, dancing to a rhythm that defies the boundaries of time."

He drew me closer, his lips brushing against my neck, a trail of delicate kisses that left a trail of sparks in their wake. "This connection," he murmured against my skin, "it's beyond anything I could have imagined."

"It's a revelation," I whispered, my fingers tracing his jawline, "a testament to the depth of what lies within us."

The good thing about being a preternatural was that even though so many of my senses were nonexistent, others were heightened.

Pleasure was on that I hadn't felt before. At least not at this level.

"Scott," I murmured, my fingers tracing patterns on his chest, "this, what we're discovering together... it's profound."

"Mmm?" He turned to me, his eyes holding mine, a silent invitation to share the depths of our feelings.

"I never thought I'd experience something like this," I admitted, my voice a mixture of vulnerability and wonder.

"Like what?" he asked, his fingers brushing against my cheek, a tender gesture that stirred emotions within me.

"Like being alive," I replied, meeting his gaze. "Like feeling a connection that defies the boundaries of our existence."

Just as our connection seemed to reach its zenith, a sudden, ominous howl pierced the air, shattering the tranquility of our moment. The haunting sound echoed through the night, carrying a weight of urgency and danger that made our hearts race in unison.

Scott and I locked eyes, our intimate embrace abruptly interrupted by the chilling cry that seemed to carry a message only we could decipher. The harmonious rhythm we had been exploring was now overshadowed by an impending threat, a presence that lurked in the darkness beyond our cocoon of desire.

With a sense of urgency, Scott pushed himself up onto his elbows, his eyes scanning the surroundings as if searching for an invisible foe.

"Is it them?" he asked.

I shook my head. "No. I don't think so. I've never heard that sound before."

We peeled ourselves off one another and walked to my bedroom window, staring down at the streets below.

We saw nothing, but the howl came again.

"That sounds almost like a dog."

"No dog I've ever heard before," Scott murmered.

"What do we do?" I asked.

"Go back to bed?" he suggested.

"Clothes."

I tossed him his shirt and pants. I quickly pulled on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt so we could go find whatever was disturbing the peace.
