12 - You Have To Remember
Thomas shot the guard before he even had a chance to retaliate. His body filled with electricity causing him to convulse on the ground. Two more guards entered, a man and a woman. Brenda shot the man and he joined his friend on the ground.
Minho grabbed the woman before swinging her into a wall. As she was being swung, she tried firing a shot at me, luckily, I jumped out of the way before it it could hit me. While the woman was in a daze Minho ripped the Launcher from her hands. He then pointed the weapon at her head. Her eyes got wide when she realized there was no way she was escaping. So, she remained on her knees waiting to be shot.
Just then, another guard ran in. Newt punched him directly in the face. He groaned as he held his bloody mouth. The man was about to speak but I shot him in the back before a single word could escape. At such a close range, I was sure he was hurting more than any of the other people we shot. I didn't feel bad for him at all. It almost felt good seeing them suffer.
"That beetle blade's watchin' every bloody thing we do," Newt said. He nodded toward the small, robotic lizard in the back of the room. "We've got to get out of here or more will keep coming."
Memories flooded my mind as I watched the small, red-eyed creature. I remembered when I grabbed that thing and got horribly sick. I had to applaud WICKED for thinking of putting poison in those things. It certainly makes sure we don't try to interfere with them.
I chuckled, "I wouldn't suggest trying to catch it."
Newt and Minho smiled at me, obviously knowing what I was talking about. Our smiles of remembrance faded when the guard held at gun point spoke.
"Just shoot me already," she wined.
Thomas ignored her request. "How many of there are you? Are there more coming?"
She glared on Thomas and remained quiet. Minho leaned forward and pressed the gun to her cheek. Panic caused her to speak.
"There's at least 50 guards on duty," she confessed quickly.
"Then where are they?" MInho asked.
"I don't know."
"Don't lie to me!" Minho shouted, growing impatient.
"Something else is going on, okay?" she said. "All I know is that some of us were called to a different section. That's all I know, I swear it."
"I have a hard time believing that is all you know," Thomas scoffed.
"If I knew more I would tell you."
"Bull crap." I rolled my eyes. "Guys, we're going to have to go with what we have at this point. We have to get out of here."
Minho nodded. "Anne's right. I'll keep this nice lady here hostage. She might be useful. Lets get goin' already."
Thomas stepped in front of Minho. "Brenda needs to lead us. She knows her way around this place better than anyone of us. I'll go behind her, then Minho and his hostage, then Newt, and Anne in the rear."
We all nodded in agreement. I had to admit that Thomas was a good leader. He was good at keeping us together, united. But with leadership comes too much responsibility for other people's lives. It's a double edged sword. But i guess, our whole lives are exactly that.
Brenda walked up to the door and listened. "I still don't hear anything. But we can't have long." She then slipped into the hall.
Before Thomas could follow, I grabbed his his white t-shirt in my hand. "You still trust her? After what she said about me?"
He nodded, feeling confident. "I think she's scared of you. I don't think it means anything."
"But what if it does, Thomas? What if she-"
"Anne," he cut me off. "It's not true. It is just her opinion. We have to get going."
He didn't let me say another word because he quickly ran out of the room into the beige hallway. Minho put his hand on my shoulder.
"He's right, don't worry. If she even thinks about hurting you I'll chop her pretty little head off," Minho told me.
"Not before I do." I smiled, a hint a of wickedness appearing.
"That's my girl."
Minho dragged the guard out of the room with him right after he spoke. Newt winked before following.
"This is crazy," I groaned before sprinting after my friends, Launcher in hand.

We were ready to go through the door that could potentially have 20 guards on the other side when an ear splitting alarm went off. A few seconds later, the lights went out. Suddenly, I felt a rag go over my mouth. I let out a small, muffled scream. But then my head started to spin and I couldn't move. I knew I was being drugged. There was nothing I could do because I passed out.

I woke up in one of the rooms I was in yesterday. It was the room where we have the procedure to get our memories back. I was strapped down to the bed by leather restraints. As I tried to free myself they rubbed on my wrists and ankles. I soon gave up before looking around. There was no one else in the room, which was odd. Where was the person who stole me away from my friends? Why bring me here?
My thoughts drifted to Minho. He must be extremely worried. The lights are back on so he must know I'm missing. I just hope to God that he finds me before anything bad happens to him or me. I wouldn't be able to handle if I was captured again. If only I could communicate with Thomas. But they cut our psychic speaking of. Just my luck.
Suddenly Teresa burst through the door. My face lit up at the sight of her.
"Thank god! Teresa you have to help me!" I pleaded.
"I can't Anne," she said, giving me a sorry look.
A wave of confusion washed over me. "What are you talking about?"
She sighed. "I don't have much time, they're waiting for me."
"Who's waiting for you?"
Teresa ignored me. "Do you remember before we went into the Scorch? When you got that note in your backpack?"
I nodded.
"It said, 'you have to remember. It's the only way we can survive.' I wrote that note. It's still true, Anne. The rest of us are leaving and I know you, Minho, Newt, and.. and Thomas are too." She looked sad for a moment when she mentioned Thomas' name. But she shook her head, making the sadness go away. "If you're going to make it you need to remember. You are my best friend and I want to see you alive when this is over."
She grabbed my hand and squeezed it. "Teresa, what are you going to do to me?"
"You have to remember, I'm sorry." She then reached down and picked up a needle. "This will make sure you don't feel any pain. I won't be here when you wake up, but I know you'll be fine. I promise I'm just doing what I think is right."
"Teresa, please don't," I begged. "I don't want to remember. I already have so much death on my shoulders." My voice started cracking as tears began to slip down my cheeks.
She had to look away from me so she wouldn't start crying too. "This has to happen. I'll see you later, Anne."
Teresa quickly pressed the needle into my arm and released the liquid inside me. I looked at her with pleading eyes. I couldn't be angry at her. I just couldn't. She is my friend, I know that for sure. I don't want to mad at one of the few friends I have. For all I know, she might die in a few days and I won't know about it.
"Just know that, I love you Anne. I hope you can forgive me."
Suddenly, I passed out before I could speak another word.
