Meet the Future

As I sally forth to meet the future

I have but one request

that I can check my anger at the door

and behave my very best

The bridge I've tried so hard to cross

grows longer every day

and until I reach the other side

there's naught to do but pray

I've taken it upon myself

to carry all the load

in spite of opinions from everyone

whose advice I overrode

It's simply that I can't surrender

the duty I embraced

but the enemy I'm battling

makes my efforts all misplaced

So when finally knocking on future's door

my determination will be grim

to gain the strength I need to do the job

providing consolation to the brim

And if just once I see that glimmer

from the effort I apply

It will be the glow that lights my way

and our love will amplify...                         ...into the future
