; winter 2015 mix tapes
Hello, friends. How are you all? I hope you're well. I hope you're staying hydrated and getting enough sleep and getting your final papers and projects done in time. I hope you're smiling right now. I hope you've got some great tunes to get you through to the holidays. But in case you don't...
HAVE NO FEAR, I AM HERE.
So, I've never shared with you my seasonal playlists before. I'm realizing now that I've no idea why, because I'm obsessed with both finding new music and sharing it all with other people. But yeah, so I do this thing where every season I'll make myself a mixed CD or two of all of the songs I've been really into for a while. I think I might have skipped Spring 2015, but I had two summer ones, one for fall, and I just finished making my second Winter 2015 playlist.
I've got to say, these two CD's are among some of my best work. Some tracks are a little random in the grand scheme of things, but like, they're mixed CD's. They aren't albums by the same artist, so obviously the sounds aren't going to mesh perfectly. I have to say, though, that they got pretty close this time around.
Yeah, so instead of doing a music haul, I'm going to share my Winter 2015 mix tapes with you. For the most part, most of the songs are recently released, but there are a couple that were released earlier 2015 or even in 2014. It just happens that I'm only now getting into them. Better late than never, right?
Enjoy!
WINTER 2015, VOL. 1
01: LA Devotee by Panic! At the Disco
Probably my favorite of P!ATD's available tracks from their as of yet unreleased album Death of a Bachelor. Such a great tune with incredible lyrics. Seriously, the catchy hooks and glamorous refrain almost distract you, but be sure to pay attention to the lyrics. You'll be grateful that you did.
02: Could Have Been Me by The Struts
I'm such a huge fan of this song. If you're into 80's pop and rock, you'll love this. I don't know why this band isn't bigger, but I can't wait until they get there.
03: Hands to Myself by Selena Gomez
Honestly, I was very pleasantly surprised by the amount of songs from Selena Gomez's new album. I haven't been much of a fan of her music in the past, but I legitimately purchased Revival. This track was the first to hook me, but you'll see more of her on these CD's.
04: Save the Queen by Garek
If anyone actually pays attention to the messages I broadcast to all of my followers, I recently told you all to go and check this song out. The singer, Garek, is actually from my hometown and I died a lot when I discovered him. He is apparently my town's best kept secret, because no one ever told me he existed. I'm still obsessed with this song after a month or so of being aware of it, the music video is killer, and it has actually inspired a future project that I can't wait to get to work on.
05: Boys Like You by Who Is Fancy (feat. Meghan Trainor and Ariana Grande)
This one is relatively new, I think. It's super cute and super catchy. Fancy is going to be a force to be reckoned with when he starts releasing more music. I hope this track helps him gain some exposure. Very fun.
06: Secret Love Song, Pt. II by Little Mix
I'm literally still crying over this one, you guys. I couldn't resist.
07: Army by Ellie Goulding
I wish I loved more songs from Ellie's new album, but of the unfortunate few that I do enjoy, this is probably my favorite right now. I also love that if you pay attention to the lyrics, it's literally a Larry song. Like, I never wanted to make it about Larry, but the song was like, "But...listen to me. I made me about Larry." And I really couldn't argue, you know?
08: Cologne by Selena Gomez
This is a deluxe track, I believe, because it's not on Spotify, which is beyond annoying. Either way, this is my favorite song on Revival. It's very sensual and absurdly catchy, just not as boppy as "Hands to Myself" is.
09: You're Such A by Hailee Steinfeld
Haiz's EP is gold, guys. I think I like this song even more than I liked "Love Yourself" and I'm, like, 300 percent positive that you will too. It's so so catchy. I don't know when she'll release a full-length album, but God I can't wait.
10: That's How You Know by Nico & Vinz
Listen. I don't know why I like this song so much. It's honestly just radio friendly pop and I can't help myself because I'm trash.
11: That's the Way It Is by Celine Dion
Okay, so, this one is pretty old. I think it's from the 90's. The reason it's here is because I watched The Holiday recently, and after I did that I took to YouTube to find cute little fan videos of Amanda and Graham because OTP and someone made one with this song. The rest is history. It's adorable.
12: House Party by Sam Hunt
Yes, I know, I'm crazy. It's a country song. In my defense, give it a listen. Sam Hunt has the country/pop crossover genre down to an art. Also my brother essentially forced me to love it so it's not my fault.
13: Wolves by One Direction
This is my favorite song from Made In the A.M. so obviously it's going to be here. Did you honestly expect otherwise?
14: New Obsession by Frankie
If I remember correctly, Taylor Swift recommended this song (among others) to her fans via Instagram, so that's where this one came from. It's super catchy and cute. Very bubblegum pop.
15: Sorry by Justin Bieber
Originally, this was the only song from Purpose that I could even tolerate. That's no longer true (there's three now, wow! Look at my progress), but I truly cannot deny how often the chorus gets stuck in my head. Plus, it's fun to sing. Plus squared, Cimorelli did a really rad cover of it, and I'm going to actually put their video up in the multimedia section, so give it a listen.
16: All Night by R5
This is another one that's stuck in my head all the time. I blame the Target entertainment area.
17: In by Simple Plan
Look, I love Simple Plan. Their last album was awesome, and somehow I've gone this long without knowing that they released some more tracks. So, I'm late to that party, but here we are.
18: Hurricane by The Fray
I'd be lying if I said this song didn't hook me because of this lyric: "She yells and I crumble / She's got the power / She's barely five foot two / She's a hurricane." Because hello, hi. I'm five foot two.
19: Girls Like Girls by Hayley Kiyoko
I feel like this is a must-have on mix CD's this year, so...duh. If you still haven't heard this, where have you been since February?
20: Anchor by Mindy Gledhill
The only reason I even know this song is because someone on Tumblr told their followers to look it up because it reminded them of Larry. They're right. But mostly it's just a super pretty song and you should all know it. I want to go fly a kite to it.
WINTER 2015, VOL. 2
01: Lost and Found by Ellie Goulding
Listen, this song is so cute. I don't even really know what the point of it is, but it's so so cute. If it doesn't end up in an indie romantic comedy at some point next year, then there's something wrong with the world. Also, do yourself a favor and listen to the next song I'm about to list right after this one. Not only do they sort of sound similar, but they go together so well, which is why I listen them this way.
02: Mad Love by Neon Trees
I don't know where song has been my whole life, but it's adorable. Why isn't it in movies? Why don't people talk about it more? I'm literally in love.
03: Emperor's New Clothes by Panic! At the Disco
I hope we're all in agreement that Panic!'s new album is going to be fire. Actual fire. This is another song that is inspiring that future project I mentioned before, as you can probably tell; both this one and "Save the Queen" have similar themes. Oh, and if you haven't seen this music video...do yourself a favor and go watch it. And then sign my petition to get Brendon Urie in the next season of American Horror Story.
04: Love Yourself by Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran
Track number two from Purpose that I could tolerate. It took me an embarrassingly long time to realize what he actually meant by the "maybe you should go and love yourself" lyric. I was like so confused by the mixed messages I was getting from the song until it finally clicked, and that was when I started to enjoy it. But Ed Sheeran collaborated with him, so obviously I'd end up liking it. It was only a matter of time.
05: Pride by American Authors
This one came out just a couple days ago, but I've known about it for longer. American Authors performed this at my university and I loved it so much that I made a note of it in my phone, and the other night I randomly decided I wanted to watch a video of them singing it live (because I knew their new album hasn't been released yet) but when I searched for it on YouTube its music video popped up and I was like ?? So yeah. Good tune.
06: Airplanes by 5 Seconds of Summer
My favorite track from Sounds Good, Feels Good. I don't know what I love about it or why I like it more than all the other songs, but I do.
07: Sober by Selena Gomez
Another really fun song. You almost expect it to be a ballad, but it isn't. I wouldn't call it a bop either. I don't know what it is. You'll like it.
08: What A Feeling by One Direction
Listen, this is hands down one of the best songs One Direction has ever released whether it's your favorite or not, and if you thought I'd make seasonal CD's and not put this on one of them, then you don't know me very well.
09: Victorious by Panic! At the Disco
I want to scream this song's chant to all of my professors right now.
10: A.D.I.D.A.S. by Little Mix
I still giggle whenever the part about Leigh's "Brazilian" comes up I am a child and I can't help myself. But yeah, this entire song makes me feel awkward but in the best way and it's one of my favorite tracks from Get Weird.
11: Outta My System by Simple Plan
Oh look, another new-ish Simple Plan that I didn't know existed until now. I hate me sometimes.
12: When We Were Young by Adele
Okay, don't hate me, but I'm not a huge fan of Adele? I really don't know why, because I know that she's obviously otherworldly talented. Like, her vocal abilities blow me away so often that I'm in the middle of the Pacific right now typing this, but I've just never really gotten into her music. I didn't like "Hello" and I haven't been super impressed with a majority of the rest of 25. I do like this song, though. So to make me look like a good person, I added it. Also I needed one more song to make twenty oops.
13: Teenager In Love by Neon Trees
I'm still trying to figure out Neon Trees isn't more popular. They make such clever music and a lot of it is really cute. Sigh.
14: Break Up In a Small Town by Sam Hunt
Yikes, here he is again. I must be sick. (The priest thinks it's the devil... My mom thinks it's the flu...) I wouldn't say that this one is as catchy as "House Party" but if you make it until the chorus, it's pretty good. Also I'm from a small town, so I get what he's saying. Sort of.
15: Hell Nos and Headphones by Hailee Steinfeld
Haiz again. This is supposedly her second single, but I've yet to hear it get any radio play, so maybe it isn't being announced officially or declared until her full-length album drops. Whatever, either way it's great. It's not as much of a bop as "You're Such A" but I like it a lot and it's relatable.
16: If I Could Fly by One Direction
Because I love to destroy myself.
17: Who Do You Love by Marianas Trench
First of all, I love this band and not enough people do. Second of all, why don't you? Yes, you. Third of all, this is the best song from Astoria and unless you agree with me your opinion is irrelevant.
18: Grown by Little Mix
This one is super fun to sing. I always need a good tune to belt out during car rides, and since I'm about to travel home again for Christmas break, I obviously needed this on here. Plus, it's one of my favorite Get Weird tracks.
19: Something In the Way You Move by Ellie Goulding
Another decent track from Delirium.
20: Electric Love by BORNS
I know this one is old news, but it's still not popular enough and I love it. If you haven't heard it, T-Swizzle recommended it ages ago (I think on Twitter that time) and it's fantastic. Honestly, her taste in music is a constant surprise but a welcome one as long as she continues to share it with us.
Thanks for reading, guys! What songs have you been super into this season? Any new bands that you've been getting to know that you think I haven't heard yet? If you ever any song, artist, or album recs, always feel free and encouraged to shoot me a PM on Wattpad or anywhere else you can find me (Twitter, Tumblr, etc.). I'm on a constant hunt for more music and I always appreciate help.
To whoever is taking finals, good luck! I'm rooting for you. Tyra Banks is rooting for you. We're all rooting for you, Tiffany! Take care. x
