; spring 2016, vol. 2 mix tape

Hi, all. I made a second volume of my spring mix tapes pretty much just in time for my summer one to be coming out, so...oh well. I'll hold off on the summer one(s) until mid to late June! I'm glad to know some of you are actually enjoying these. (:

I also made some adjustments to the first mix tape before I burned the CD for my car, so I'll tell you about those edits at the end of this part. And I'll waste no more of your time with my rambling, as you're probably here for the music. So here we go:

SPRING 2016, VOL. 2

01: TEAR IN MY HEART by Twenty One Pilots

I mean, this song is nothing new. You've all likely heard it before. I'm just kind of playing catch up with this band the same way I have been with P!ATD, so I put this one as the opener because it's fun. If you've not heard it, of course go look it up right now immediately.

02: SHE by ZAYN

When his album first came out, I remember samantha telling me this was one track she particularly enjoyed, but I was sort of unsure about it. I like it a lot more, and it had to make at least one of these spring mixes.

03: INTO YOU by Ariana Grande

First of all, you can expect a full album review for Ari's Dangerous Woman, which honestly surprised me. I'll save all the compliments I want to give the whole thing for that review, and instead I'll just leave you with my assurance that this is a fantastic song. Super catchy, and I didn't watch the BBMAs, but I heard she killed the live performance of it. Which is no surprise.

04: CRY BABY by Melanie Martinez

Love love love Melanie Martinez lately. I can't believe it took me so long to start listening to her stuff. "Cry Baby" took me a little while to get into compared to her other tracks like "Dollhouse," "Pity Party," and "Soap," but it's another one of her bigger ones. It's also her album's title track. The music video is another odd one, but honestly that kind of just adds to her charm.

05: THE RUN AND GO by Twenty One Pilots

I'll just let you know that you're going to see at least three more songs from Vessel, so sorry but I'm not sorry. Although I might as well just finally burn that whole album instead of splitting the songs up and sticking them into my mixes. Oh well. But yeah, another great one.

06: WEATHERMAN by Justin Jay feat. Josh Taylor and Benny Bridges

I don't even remember where I first heard this. It was possibly recently released and I found it under that tab on Spotify, but I'm not positive. Either way, I adore it. It isn't lyrically heavy, but the short first verse alone is clever and smart, and it's one of those songs that make you feel like you're somewhere else listening to it. Like, when I hear it I feel like I'm on a ferry in New York squinting out at the water while the wind is whipping like crazy because a storm is slowly rolling in. I don't know. It's great.

07: DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT by Hudson Thames from Sing Street

So, I pretty much love everything that John Carney does, which means I already know I'm going to love Sing Street, his next musical movie which is currently in select theaters I think. RIP I still haven't seen it (or Civil War for that matter). When the soundtrack came out, I was all over it, and this was one of my favorites. Also I just love Hudson Thames.

08: WRONG by ZAYN feat. Kehlani

This was one of the first of Zayn's solo songs that I loved. Kehlani has a super smooth voice that blends really well with Z's, and I just feel like it's really solid.

09: TREES by Twenty One Pilots

I think this is my favorite track of theirs to just turn up really loud and listen to in my car. I don't even have to sing along, because once the music really hits, it's sort of entrancing. Also, if I made vines, I would make one of Tyler singing "I just want to saaaaay...." and then put Adele going, "Hello. It's me." Has that been done? I feel like that has to have been done already.

10: TIO by ZAYN

Another one of my first favorites from this album. LOL also it took me an embarrassingly long time to realize that "TiO" stood for "take it off" and wasn't just "uncle" in Spanish, which I never understood. Me @ me: yikes.

11: SOAP by Melanie Martinez

Catchy and cute. I love the music video (as I always love her music videos no matter how odd), I love the popping bubbles... I just love it.

12: DON'T WANNA BE YOUR GIRL by Wet

Someone I follow on Tumblr reblogged this song, and I always listen to those audios when I've never heard of the song or the artist before. I just figure if someone I follow likes it, then I will most likely enjoy it as well. This one was definitely no exception. It's got a very minimalist quality to it, but I love it a lot. The lead singer's voice is soothing and very pretty. A band to keep an eye on for sure.

13: FOR HIM by Troye Sivan feat. Allday

You saw this one on my first volume, but it's part of the edits I made. So I won't go into detail with this one as you've already heard my thoughts. (:

14: CAR RADIO by Twenty One Pilots

Lots of love for this band and this album in particular, honestly. Every single track is good, and I wanted to put every single one of them onto my mixes. Like "Trees," "Car Radio" is super fun to just play really loudly in a vehicle, although I actually love singing along to this one.

15: ONLY HOPE by Mandy Moore from A Walk to Remember

I know this is so old, but I recently rewatched this movie and kind of fell in love with it all over again. So when I made this CD, this song was stuck in my head, which means it made the list oops.

16: MESSIN' AROUND by Pitbull feat. Enrique Iglesias

Usually not a fan of Pitbull or Enrique Iglesias, but this song is pretty fun. I mostly just like it because my youngest brother gets really into it and does a funny dance.

17: HELL NO by Ingrid Michaelson

Listen, I love this song. It's so cute. It's almost bordering on country I feel like, but I don't even care. Ingrid's voice is one of my faves; it's so smooth and (this is going to sound weird) creamy, like I don't drink coffee but if I did I would put her voice in my coffee. (*regrets everything I just said but leaves it so that it looks like I wrote a longer description for this song since I love it so much despite not having more to say*)

18: WE ARE GOLDEN by Mika

You'll see more Mika in my summer mix since I've finally given the rest of his stuff a chance. I loved him in "Popular Song" with Ariana Grande, and I figured I'd get really into him eventually, but it took longer than I expected. Regardless, I'm here now, and I love it. Please watch the music video for this song, by the way. It made me both super uncomfortable and super giddy simultaneously, and I'll probably never watch it again but I'm glad I watched it at least once. I feel like you will be too.

19: CHEAP THRILLS by Sia

My brother told me to look up this song ages ago and I did, but I remember not being very impressed. I left it in my big playlist however, and the more it came on shuffle, the more I began to enjoy it. I had no idea until recently that a version of this song plays on Top 40 radio stations, but it has Sean Paul in it and although I usually like him, I prefer the original version. Super catchy and super fun to sing.

20: HOUSE OF GOLD by Twenty One Pilots

A stand out from Vessel simply because it sounds different from every other track, but I will say nothing more than this: go watch the music video.

Alright, there you have it. Between this volume and the first one, you're essentially all caught up with the music I've been listening to for the past several months. I can't wait for more summer music to come out – within the last week, I've already been uncovering some gems, so be prepared for my summer mix whenever I get it made! It'll be a good one.

Below you can find the changes to the first volume. I'd go back and edit the actual thing, but I'm too lazy and I want you all to listen to the songs I removed anyway. If you want to know my opinion on any of the new additions, just let me know in the comments! (:
