I know magic. Or at least, my family does. But not the fun kind. The weird, useless, arbitrary kind. Where you count to three, speak Latin, spin around, touch your nose, and maybe, just maybe, you'll see a vapor. My grandma is the only person who can do any cool stuff. 

Today, she stands in the river, her trousers hiked up and a large white sun hat flopping over her face. Her nose is wrinkled, but her eyes glimmer with mischief. Quite usual for her.

"Esther! Join me!"

I'm still in my work uniform, leaned only a few feet away against a poplar tree. I came as soon as she called, so I'm kinda greasy and definitely sweaty. I shrug and jump in, splashing her in the face. She splashes me back.

"I've been blessed with visions today! Would you like to see a few of your possible futures? Or perhaps, presents?"

She loves the multiverse stuff. I smile. "Sure, but no way any of those Esthers are having more fun than me."

She draws an oval into the water with her finger. I look into the mirror she creates and another me looks back. That Esther looks very stressed.
