half and half

Serebeau sat, staring straight ahead

Watching Jerome goof around again

"Look at my glass, friend. What do you see?"

Eyebrows arched, he said, "Half-empty."

"No, no, friend. See clearly."

"If you want to hear 'half-full', you're joking, Jerome."

Jerome sat next to Serebeau before saying,

"My friend, this glass is like the future. Our views on it aren't conclusive.

One must take into account,

The void and the fullness, for balance."

"The realist, aren't you?" Serebeau interrupted.

"Yes, mon ami. Now, shut it, lemme finish.

If a glass were fully full, it would be ugly left.

An empty glass to a guest surely brings social death.

That's why half and half is the best for any body.

Beauty in balance, seeing all possibilities."

Serebeau stood, staring straight ahead

Jerome wasn't kidding, he was making sense.

Still, he said, "Not everyone's willing...

To accommodate things like uncertainty."

"Well, it's good people learn, as anything can happen.

We hope for the best, and prepare for the worst.

Don't hold too tight onto either halves, that's all."

Jerome finished, leaving Serebeau in thought.

A/N - I'd really like to give lyttlejoe and NotInOurStars credit for inspiring me with their structure and conversational style. It was through their poems that I really got to understand what the prompt was about, when I initially didn't.
